Traditional lodging one would expect to find in France. Within walking distance to everything one would want to see and do in the old city. Our hosts could not have been more helpful or pleasant. Breakfasts were very good, served on a shared dining room table. Parking was a bit problematic as parking on the street had been restricted by nearby streetwork, but our hosts dealt with the situation effectively. We stayed in the first floor suite and did not see any of the upper floors. An

excellent value!

I had such high hopes for my time in Quebec City, but I have to admit that my stay at this B&B really put a damper on things.

The property itself was okay, maybe around 4 stars. But there were a few outdated things, like the microwave and kettle on the second floor, which looked like they'd seen more than two decades of use. Upgrading these would definitely improve the overall experience. The shared bathroom, while small, was at least admirably clean. Beds are very comfortable.

Having stayed in all sorts of accommodations across different countries – hotels, motels, B&Bs – I can confidently say that this has been my least enjoyable experience when it comes to both service and breakfast.

Regarding the service, I'm talking about the overall hospitality vibe. I've never encountered such a chilly attitude in any accommodation before (and mind you, the man there was friendly and polite). Or maybe I should phrase it this way – every other guest I interacted here with was more friendlier. She barely responds, as if she doesn't want to engage in conversation with me at all. I experienced a strong sense of being unwelcome at the B&B.

Yes, you heard right – the breakfast here was worse than your basic continental spread. The first two days, I was hoping for a simple plate of fried eggs and bagels or toast. But when day three's breakfast arrived, I wished I hadn't even bothered. A half bagel (yes, seriously, half) with a squished egg inside, and the egg white was still translucent! It was seriously unappetizing. On the second day, I spotted a couple pulling out their own bread, pears, and even yogurt at the breakfast table. Smart move, as I later realized! Despite the fancy presentation, I would have much preferred a straightforward and satisfying breakfast.

After my stint at B&B Au Petit Roi, I completely understand why the other B&B by the same owner had such rave reviews. Before coming here, I'd accidentally visited the other one, where a kind older gentleman helped us. He was genuinely warm, and I'm sure he'd have nailed the breakfast game too.

In the end, it was just a quick 3-day trip, so these things can happen. But I can't help but feel for the woman running this B&B. It's sad to see someone stuck in a job that doesn't seem to bring them joy or fulfillment. I truly hope she can find her passion after a bit of exploration.

And yes, this is probably the longest review I've ever written! O
