Café Castel - Déjeuner Diner - Sandwiches Salads - Smoothies Dessert

It was a cute little cafe. Looks very cozy and staff was nice. Unfortunately my group had very watered-down lattes and hot chocolates. Not acceptable when you're paying 6 dollars for a beverage plus tip. Would not recommend.

L’hôtel BW propose de prendre le petit déjeuner dans ce café attenant. Les produits sont OK mais à 7: 30 du matin il n’y avait beaucoup de produits indisponibles, notamment ceux pour le petit déjeuner, le personnel vous montre clairement qu’il n’a pas envie d’être là, ne décroche même pas un mot, c’est malaisant. Je j’y remettrai pas les pieds!

Very nice little cafe, feels like Montreal. Located just around corner of McGill downtown campus.

Overpriced and unpleasant food but very friendly staff. Avoid if you can, plenty of other better options close by.

I like the decorations and the glass roof. My daughter had a sweet and I had a cap cappuccino. Very cute dog on the top of cappuccino

Love this cafe. I was in Montreal for four days, and went to this cafe three times. I loved their Bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese. Coffee tasted great as well. Just loved the ambiance to eat, to contemplate, or just have a conversation with a friend.

I usually go there for coffee/tea in the evenings.
They have very good tea but their hot chocolate is average.
Their brownie is very delicious too.
Overall food/sandwiches are over priced.

Worth a try if you don't mind paying an overpriced sandwich. No matter how good their chicken pesto sandwhich is, it isn't worth 20 dollars with taxes. Their coffee is pretty good though, it's fairly price. Big plus on the decor, it's quite unique.

Endroit beau. Malheureusement très étroits et très brouillant. J’avais pris un PETIT sandwich à 6,87$ arrivé à l’accueil je paye 18$. Je veux bien comprendre qu’il y ai des taxes mais alors les prix affichés ne devraient pas avoir une co grande différence. Le personnel pas très aimable.

Although the place is absolutely beautiful, I wouldn’t recommend it to everyone. They charge an arm and their tables are so small. I went there to study and decided to get a salad and a sandwich. Tell me how it came out to $30. The owner (I believe) was rude and the tables were so tiny. I could barely fit my laptop.

I love having cafe latte over there, it is strong, creamy, plus one of their workers if you be lucky and be his shift, he does a beautiful graphic on lattes that you can enjoy your cold day with a nice coffee!

Nice corner spot next to Desautels. Only had the coffee but it was a cute place and buzzing. The coffee was good.

Unfortunately, we had the great displeasure of eating breakfast here. We ordered a sandwich on croissant, and three other assorted pastries.
Pro:
Open on Sunday morning.

Cons:
The toasted sandwich was served cold.
The cafe was dirty.
The pastries were no better than grocery store purchased pastries.
The pastries were pricey compared to boulangeries in the area.

Bon endroit pour prendre un peu de temps en prenant un bon café, mais je veux rapporter la visite d’aujourd’hui, je me suis senti très mal à l’aise de voir comment un monsieur (je suppose qu’il est le superviseur) a crié et humilié un personnel de la cafétéria. Vous ne pouvez pas être un bon restaurant / café si dans l’établissement, ils vont embaucher ce type de personnes qui sont celles qui donnent le service aux convives. C’était très inconfortable

What a lovely atmosphere! If you're in the area, this is a great space to sit and work. Note that the tables are small. I had easy access to an outlet.

I have to report that my visit to the cafe today was extremely horrible. In the first place, the food did not seem fresh and the attention of a man in the cashier area was tremendously abusive with one of his colleagues, today I went almost at lunch time and I saw an older man, apparently the boss was rude and disrespectful, yelling at a girl and the companions in such a way that the people who were in the cafe did not even care. It was so uncomfortable and abusive that I will not recommend that cafe again for those types of people, who only yell and humiliate people when they give their best effort in terms of customer service. The supervisor today was screaming to the personal every moment, was awful.

Yesterday I had a too bad moment in this place. There’s no way for me to return again, the supervisor or boss doesn’t have any human sense, he makes the whole coffee experience a bad one, the environment is too stressful and uncomfortable when he shouted and humiliated his colleagues, it’s no professional.

I ordered 2 chicken and pesto sandwiches and 2 large lattes and somehow my order total came out to be 56. The food and the coffees aren't worth the price they charge. Good ambience though.

They charged me 8.72 $ (without tip) for a filtered coffee and a small piece of cake. In other places, this typically costs me about 5-6$.

Today August 13,2022 I went there with my son and ordered 2 Café Latté and let me tell you, it was the worst one we ever had! Horrible and Blend, it tasted like water with few drops of coffee and on top of that, it was terribly dangerously hot, after 15 minutes of waiting in the car, the coffees were still dangerously HOT. It looks to me that the staff didn’t have a clue how to make coffee, I think they used one cup of coffee for both of our coffees and warmed them with steam water then poured inside cold milk LOLL it was a terrible experience we threw away the coffees into the herbs LOLLL
To bad because we usually go there and promote this place, but now it seems official that the owner doesn’t properly train the new staff and the coffees became a weapon HOT BURNERS AND DISGUSTED

I had a good coffee and a sandwich in a nice atmosphere. However, I paid the “tourist tax” by doing so. Coffee was normal priced and I would recommend it, but the sandwich was far too expensive. My bill for a drip coffee and a sandwich was 21 dollars in total.

This café is right beside McGill University. After sending my daughter to school, we had lunch here. We ordered a lunch combo including a sandwich, side salad and a piece of loaf ($24). A veggie burger ($13.35) and a small can of pop ($2.6). The portions are not big at all. Salad is average. With tax and tips, comes at almost $53. It’s crazy for a regular sandwich shop. Never come here again.

It was 6 inches.
Before covid, it was $10. I’m not sure how that is reasonable.

The prices are too outrageous so I won’t be going back.

Super belle ambiance et beau décor. Service rapide et courtois. Latte est excellent. Belle vue sur le trafic de la ville. Fortement recommandé.

Les produits sont frais et le service est cordial, mais les prix sont excessifs: 16 $ pour un petit sandwich, 22 $ pour un sandwich accompagné d’une salade. L’endroit est lumineux, agrémenté d’une jolie décoration, cependant le bruit de la rue gâche un peu l’atmosphère. Certains employés parlent un français laborieux.

This is a pretty little café jamed in the corner of the street with bay Windows all around. Gorgeous really. If only it had not been 35 degrees when I visited lol

Wow. The speed and the prudence at with which this man made me the artisanal iced tea and their proficiency overwhelmed my limited cognitive capabilities to the point of fainting. For 6.9 mere nanoseconds, I mistook the man for Dumbledore himself mixing various elixirs. The tea had a magnificent magenta hue and it there was a hint of Ceylon cinnamon and vanilla (those small touches made all the difference). Ugh, the complexity of the aromas! On this hot summer day, my tonsils and uvula throbbed from pleasure as the cool, perfectly sweetened aromatic liquid coated the depths of my throat.

Beautiful, cozy, conveniently located, and consequently rather popular place A very welcoming combination of good coffee, nice desserts, and tasty sandwiches as well as friendly staff. The main feature of the place is an original atmosphere created by the transparent roof, old-fashioned interior design details, and floor-to-ceiling windows commanding a beautiful view of the fashionable downtown streets.

As a McGill student, café castel is a delicious and convenient spot to grab a coffee or a bite to eat when in a pinch. Not only do they have amazing service and great staff, but they offer impressive latte art.

The pictures and the place are amazing BUT, even today, they serve you with paper cups and the croissant is served on a plastic paper, no dishes used. The reason? The pandemic even if all the other restaurant, bar and café are not doing the same

I ordered a Milky Way that supposed to have coffee inside… when I saw her making it she was putting oat milk and hot chocolate powder. When I got the “coffee” it tasted like hot chocolate… NO COFFEE. I told her but she said there are two espresso shots inside. I asked two of my friends to taste it and they also said it tasted like hot chocolate… I come here often and always get milky way (had positive experiences and tasted amazing) but today was such a disappointment.

Café Castel is one of my favourite cafes. Their coffee is delicious, and the baristas are so talented with their latte art. They also have delicious and healthy food choices for breakfast and lunch. I go to McGill and its location is prime, bustling with students and young professionals. It’s a wonderful environment to sit inside for a couple of hours to grab a coffee with a friend or to get some work done. Although it is a bit pricey, it is worth it for the taste and ambience!

Cutest darn latte art I’ve ever seen. Skilled barista, great breakfast sandwiches, and awesome place to sit and see the hustle and bustle of the city with the open air concept.

This cafe is super close to McGill's downtown campus and offers great coffee and snacks throughout the day. The decor is cozy and reminiscent of little old cafes in Europe and makes for a great space to relax and/or study. The staff is very friendly, welcoming and courteous. Absolutely my go-to place to grab a drink and/or snack between classes. It's a bit on the pricier side but they also offer a loyalty card!

Fast, high quality service. Rich, robust coffees. Fresh, albeit pricey foods that taste amazing. Definitely recommend this place, especially if you want a quick coffee break or lunch in under 30 minutes.
