I was hoping to have a great time with fresh coffee, but the guy had some brewed coffee and poured it on my cup with cold milk, and called capuccino, I was so frustrated that I couldn’t react, I didn’t believe in my eyes.
I do not go to a lot of coffee shops as I do not drink coffee but I sometimes meet friends there and grab a tea. The tea here was ok, same as everywhere else, a selection of pouches to chose from, but I am told that the coffee is great. The tiramisu though was amazing, just unbelievable. My main issue with coffee places is that everyone has a throw away cup, every single person sitting in the place had one, I was not even given the option to use a mug. This is the main reason I look for local places, that push for a greener option, but I have yet to find one in many neighborhoods and will keep looking for one here.
This is indeed one of the best coffee spots in the city. I wish it was larger to enjoy the coffee at this beautiful café. Their service is also always great. Also do yourself a favour and try their afogatos and cafe creama. The best in town
I always love coming here when I’m in the neighbourhood! The baristas are sooo friendly and upbeat despite it always being busy. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and working together. The lattes are very good and I had the breakfast croissant sandwich — delicious. Definitely worth lining up for
The best place for a good cup of coffee, food, and stay, dont stop coming to this great place, and above that great prices all around, and some of the best costumer service in Montreal!
Produits excellents!
I loved this place! The cappuccino was one the best I've had, that I went twice in the same day. The cannoli was DELICIOUS and such an adorable spot. Service was good, no complaints about the food, service or environment. The only bad thing is that I could not find a plug for my laptop and there's no patio/outdoor seating.
I’ve been going to the old port location regularly and it’s many thanks to Julien and Johnny (that we dearly call Johnny Boy). The staff always put a particular attention to every order, regardless if you are a regular or first-timer. Needless to say that the coffee is excellent and the service of the staff even better. The nice windows that are occasionally open is the cherry on the Sundae. The pastries are amazing.
The coffee is amazing and the story behind the coffee shop makes it a landmark in Montreal. Where it sucks is the service, I asked for three lattés, the barista started to make two of them, and the third was coming as he was heating up the milk, then he made me pay for two coffees, and when I tried to tell him there's only two I'm being charged for, he started being rude by saying it's a busy place and he can't make too many things at once. Then insulted me in Italian while I was leaving the shop. It's just too bad as the free coffee they gave me doesn't excuse the attitude.
I like Cafe Olimpico and first had it at their other location and was very pleased. However, today they made a very severe and dangerous error.
An Affogato is usually served with milk or vanilla flavoured ice cream. Therefore, when one reads Affogato on the menu, as it is not otherwise indicated, one would assume that it is made with vanilla ice cream. Imagine my surprise when I, someone with a severe nut allergy, am served an Affogato with hazelnut ice cream!
Would you give me hazelnut milk if I order a regular cappuccino? No. So why give me hazelnut ice cream in an Affogato? This caused me a severe allergic reaction. When dealing with well known allergens such as nuts, it is important that if such allergens are present in an unconventional place, such as within an Affogato, this is made clear when ordering. For example, write “Hazelnut Affogato” on the menu.
Really not impressed. For someone with a more severe allergy, this could have been fatal.
Update: I just had a lovely conversation with David, the manager of the cafe. He was deeply deeply apologetic and told me that this is the first (and hopefully the last) time this has ever happened. He was shocked and upset, and informed me that the changes will be made to the menu, and the staff will be trained further immediately. Thank you David. Glad to hear that measures will be put in place to prevent this in the future.
This place is a little gem in old Montreal. We were walking past this cafe and we were lured in by a whiff of coffee. As we entered, we saw someone with an affogato, and it looked very enticing with a cannoli as a garnish. You get to choose between hazelnut and pistachio for the base. We got the hazelnut one and the barista did a little show with the espresso pour. The affogato was delicious, and we inspired a few others in line to get the same while we were enjoying ours. The place is cozy with nice window seats, and music, and add it to really fun baristas who seem like they are enjoying what they do. We wanted to get their tiramisu as a lot of the reviews mention, but they were out of it. We went to the cafe the next day, and they were out yet again! But we tried the cafe crema instead, it is basically their coffee icecream and it is perfect for the summer! I’m not a coffee drinker, but I love coffee flavored desserts, and I loved my experience the two times I have been here! And before leaving Montreal, we will probably visit a few more times for the elusive Tiramisu.
A very old and popular must visit coffee spot near old port Montreal. Very busy cafe with quick service, good lights and seating. Tried the Affogato with vanilla ice cream, they have options with hazelnut & chocolate ice cream but preferred the classic combination. They also added a cannoli to the top which was an amazing combination.
Great little italian style caffé. Very decent prices and a noticeable italian influence, unfortunately the seating is very limited and if you arrive at rush hour the standing queue is quite annoying for anyone sitting. Also the lack of table service is a tad disappointing, but it is made up for in the quality of the products. A couple of name tags on the food and a small list of possible drinks would be a nice touch.
Solid espresso and hospitable staff in a deliciously cozy space with a stone interior. The donut pictured might be the best donut I’ve ever had, too! Everything in the photo was $14 total.
Great cafe! The barista of this cafe was super friendly and accommodating. The tiramisu, nutella donut, and the coffee was very delicious. I would visit this cafe again next time I’m in Montreal!
Loved our visit. Ordered latte, Americano, apple cheesecake and ricotta donut and loved all of it. Super friendly barista and the cafe had a lovely atmosphere. Highly recommend.
I LOVE this place. The staff was amazing and extremely friendly. The ambience is 10/10 and although it’s pretty busy the music and feel of the place makes it feel super peaceful. I had a latte and Nutella bombolone. YUM.
We loved Cafe olimpico. We ordered coffee, caprese burger and pistachio croissant. The coffee was awesome. We also loved the fresh mozzarella in the caprese, along with the nice pesto sauce flavor. The pistachio croissants was also nice.
Great service, wonderful ambiance, and delicious food and coffee! Café Olimpico is one those gems that make Old-Montreal the renowned, touristic attraction it is. If you're in the city, you have to visit this café:)
Amazing coffee and pricy for small cup. Very friendly team, the place is so small you can’t find seats most of the time. Better for pick up and short walk.
The service and atmosphere at this tiny coffee shop under the Hotel William Gray are top notch. The breakfast sandwiches served in doughnuts made me feel obese but also amazing. 10/10!
Comparing to other coffee places in Montréal this one is def not my favorite. Asked for 2 cortado and just got a random cappuccino, coffee was already made and cold, barista just poured some milk in it and that’s it. Really disappointing after reading all the good reviews I thought it would be way better.
One of the best coffees I've had plus the tiramisu. Inside looks like a rustic, small pub and cozy. You can seat inside or outside on of the benches in the neighborhood.
Barista is knowledgeable, efficient and fast. Americano was hot, just the right amount of milk and sweetener, drank in a comfortable atmosphere. Don't miss the croissants.
As a fellow barista, I was very disappointed with the customer service and quality of my drink. I expect to receive a cappuccino if that's what I order.not a latte that was sitting around for a while before I even ordered. Will definitely try out other locations though
LOVE the café crema (affogato)! Better come at a good time to get a seat since it’s at a busy spot in Old Montreal, but there are hotel tables to sit on across the boutique inside.
A great little place, popular family run business. Excellent coffee, tasty biscotti and bombolones. Sean and Danniele are fun and cheerful, come and see them!
I visited this café in a rainy day at old Montréal. I loved the cozy atmosphere and enjoyed the pastries with ricotta cheese filling. Loved the decor and beautiful windows and cushions next to them. (The only drawback was the latte which first, tasted not much strong and second, was served in paper cups. I'd go again but will ask for double espresso)
Came from Toronto just for the cappuccino. Best I’ve ever had.
Wonderful service and a big thank you to Julien who went above and beyond with exceptional customer service. Definitely will visit again the next time I’m in Montréal.
Definitely one of the best cafes in Mtl with exceptional customer service, friendly staff, and an awesome patisserie. If you ever come by, try their croissant.
Always a pleasure to set foot inside this quaint little cafe. Especially that it's located in the old port adds to its charm. Stop for a awesome cafe espresso. Or more
Ordered an iced coffee and was disappointed by how small it was because it was the best tasting iced coffee I ever tasted and wanted more. It was very strong and I had trouble sleeping but I'm not complaining.
The coffee is expertly made with quality ingredients. Located in the William Gray Hotel. Tiny and cramped, but with kind, quick service. Several pastries available. Try the pistachio almond doughnut or a airy, croissant. Perfect for a quick breakfast, but even better to grab and go to explore Old Montreal!
I went when there were only a couple other customers there. Place is super tiny so can imagine can be cramped. Loved the vibe, coffee & service. The lemon loaf was just okay. Was happy to find the prices were in line with St. Viateur location.
Very beautiful, small cozy cafe located in the heart of old Port of Montreal, with friendly staff and great coffee! Their homemade chocolate chip cookie was amazing!
One of the best places to have an Italian espresso in old Montreal. The place in tiny, but if you are lucky, you can manage to have a place near a window and enjoy the view.
Ordered a latte, and very disappointed with both service and taste. This place was my one favorite café in the area when I was working in MTL about 2 years ago. I still remember its perfectly textured milk for my latte.
