This museum is one of the only one that does not offer a discount for Military Veterans or disabled people. It is utterly disgusting a Canadian museum in the Nations Capital, disrespects the Canadian Forces and it's veterans, I will not return to this museum and others should do the same.
I was somewhat disturbed upon arrival to find that the museum does not acknowledge Canada's veterans. This is the first museum I have been in that doesn't support those that served or are serving by granting even a small discount for entrance. As a veteran I was astonished. Disappointed is an understatement. I won't be returning with my family.
Beautiful museum. The building itself is stunning. We got free passes from our local library (thank you!). We spent about 2-3 hours there and most of that time was spent on level 1 (which is where our interest is). The 3rd level we went through much quicker. Limited interactive exhibits for children but our kids ages 6 and 8 really enjoyed the museum. Parking cost us $13. We went on a rainy long weekend on a Saturday and it didn’t feel overly busy. Would have liked to spend more time walking around outside. Could easily spend a whole day at this museum. Pack a picnic and sit outside and enjoy the view of parliament.
Enjoyed the "free" Thursday night of exploring the museum but it was not enough time to see it all. Enjoyed the different galleries and would definitely go back to see the ones we didn't get to.
This has always been my favorite Museum in the Ottawa/Gatineau area. However I was very disappointed to see that the exposition of the Winnipeg General Strike including a mock-up of the union hall has been removed and replaced with a small plaque with very few details regarding the general strike
An amazing museum where you can learn something new every time you visit. They have an awesome children’s area with lots of exploratory and learning activities. My kids love it. They also have an in-house cinema with a super giant screen and comfy reclining seats where you can watch documentary movies.
As of May 2023, tickets cost $21 (adults), $16 (students), and $14 (children aged 2-12). Children under 2 don’t need tickets, and you save when you buy a family ticket ($53 for two adults and two kids). If you live around Ottawa or plan to visit often, it’s best to buy annual membership for $65 (a single person) or $125 (two adults and four kids). With the membership, you also get admission to the Canadian War Museum. Plus, if you visit Toronto, your Museum of History membership gives you free access to the Royal Ontario Museum (ROM).
The exhibits were fine, although sometimes repetitive. Building is well ventilated and has enough room for people to move past each other without getting in each other's way. Some national heroes are not represented. Not great for children, as it is a lot of reading with not much interactive media; and a large focus on politics.
The museum is beautiful, it is really worth seeing. But watch the times. When we bought tickets online it didn't say anywhere that there would be any early closures so we were ushered to the exit without getting a chance to see it all. Consider seeing it in 3/4 hours.
