A truly perfect bar – lovely cocktails, great wines at affordable prices, delicious snacks, and friendly service. Don't miss the live pianists and jazz that play Thursday and Friday nights.
The Cardinal Grey tea was one of the best teas I have ever had. The food was not good and not tasty. The service was good however the server never returned with the milk she promised to bring. The atmosphere is speakeasy meets tea room, not high tea. The prices are similar to other tea houses including The Ritz Carlton but the quality is not there.
I have been coming here for years and almost always a great experience. Nice ambiance, service, welcoming atmosphere. The food is great, I always enjoy the sandwiches and scones, and very nice tea blends. Can get a bit busy so I recommend a reservation on weekends.
Beautiful place with great service! Even if we were at the second story in a small corner, they came pretty often to check on us. The food was delicious and everything was on point. The only negative part I had was the noise level, we had difficulties hearing eachother and it was pretty constant sadly. Overall we had a great experience and I fully recommend!
Love this place and the high tea, especially when the weather turns colder. The chai blend is delicious, and I have a soft spot for the cheddar and pickle sandwich. I usually share the high tea with a couple of friends and we always leave warmed up and with a very full stomach.
The cardinal tea room has an amazing old-timey vibe. The sandwiches were moist and tasty. The deviled eggs were so good…who would’ve thought? !? Insta-worthy, great ambience and food! Staff super friendly too…highly recommended!
Cosy vibes for an afternoon tea. I liked the tea and the tea set, but service was subpar (waiters just standing there talking to the ‘cooks’) and the desserts were not tasty. The sandwiches were lovely and fresh but the sausage rolls were rubbery and cold. Overall, I would not return, but appreciated the experience nonetheless.
Extremely cute aesthetic and the afternoon tea was so good. It looks on the smaller side, but it’s definitely a satisfying portion! Quality of the food and tea were great. Afternoon tea for two is $50, which is a very reasonable price. Waitresses were also very kind. Would highly recommend!
It has a very nice ambience and great staff. Super friendly. Good for instagram pictures if you are up to it. However, I dont recommend the brunch. It was meh, tea wasnot on point, pastries were cold. I guess I will give it another try but with different menu.
Too popular- lineup Saturday afternoon, up ancient 2 story stairway. Be very careful not to fall! Mismatched cutlery & dishes from decades ago; teas amazing; tasty double trays with egg, smoked salmon etc on 1 level- yummy pastries on 2nd. Impossible to find parking is metered; no lots to park in. Drop your date off to get spot in lineup- good luck with parking!
The food was not finished by most of the table, I couldn't eat the deviled eggs at all. The service was horrible, we asked to keep a menu and were told that we couldn't keep one because ave enough for others comming into the place. Then I asked for the waitress not to give my friend the bill because it was a surprise for her birthday, she came with a bill for my friend at the end. The tea was good, the scones were good. Other than that you basically go here for the ambiance. I went to this place 2 times to make sure that it wasn't just a bad day the first time. Both times the food was horrible. I wont go back again for high tea, maybe just scones and tea if I want to be in the ambiance.
It's a place I can't recommend enough. The hand crafted foods are an absolute delight. Their lemon curd and country pâté are real standouts. There is a fair amount of good quality read on hand with a charming lack of uniformity in their tea ware. Definitely going back to experience the whole menu.
For some reason, I never associated Montreal with tea. It just always seemed to be a coffee city. On my recent visit to Montreal, I was introduced to Cardinal Tea Room on St. Laurent Blvd, in Le Plateau. What a fun find! You almost need to know where it is, or you would miss it. There is a sign outside the door, when it is open and a red door with the information and hours of operation. A steep set of stairs brings you to an open area with tables, chairs and a few old fashioned sofa’s and chairs and an open kitchen area. There is a second floor to the tea room with similar seating and second kitchen. We arrived just at opening on a Sunday and followed the lineup to our choice of seating. There was so many choices of tea and our server was very helpful in making our decision. There are choices of a typical “High Tea” - finger sandwiches and desserts, served on triple tiered plates, as well as multiple single choices. We chose scones, served with cream and jam! Of course, everything is served on fine China! What a treasure to find this tearoom in Montreal. I will definitely be back on my next visit!
Adorable tea room. Split an afternoon tea for two with friends. They use saucers for small plates which I found funny but loved the cut mismatch china. The sandwiches were yummy. Fluffy bread which I appreciated. The scones and pastries were also nice but the curried deviled eggs were the real gems. The Earl Grey a la creme tea was so lovely. Highly recommended.
Cardinal Tearoom is not as fancy as the Ritz or Rosélys but it is an excellent value. Be sure to make a reservation as it is popular. Their sandwiches are all delicious and their Cardinal dessert changes every week. Their tea for 2 is very cute and the scones are freshly baked. Great variety of different teas to choose from. I will be back!
A gem in the middle of mile end. I wasn’t convinced to enter at the beginning, but my wife insisted and I have to tell that the place is incredible. It’s a jump in the past with a touch the modem Montreal. Amazing tea options and great great desserts. If you are visiting mile end, you have to go.
The small door wedged between two St Laurent stores belies the wonder that awaits up the flight of carpeted stairs ahead. Passing by on the street you would never guess the elegant and relaxed setting with an eclectic sophisticatedly casual atmosphere that lies within. This is a true find and an absolute surprise the first time you explore within. The fare is simple yet refined and executed superbly making any visit an indulgent absolute joy. The afternoon tea paired with Cardinal's signature tea is a personal favorite but the menu deserves exploration with so many amazing choices that you can hardly go wrong. The staff were super friendly and helpful, with an impressive knowledge adding to the overall experience. Looking forward to going back soon.
Hmmm. I didn't enjoy it much. How you were supposed to order was stupidly confusing, the service was indifferent at best and didn't make me feel welcome at all, and the food and tea were nothing special. The place is gorgeous, however, so worth it just for that.
This has almost everything I look for when dining out - good service, delicious food, nice ambience, and a menu that I cannot make at home (or won't because it's too much trouble). Prices are a little high for the portion size but no more than justified by all the things that are right.
Homey and unpretentious - great place to catch up with a close friend! Everything in the tea for two was great - special mention for the cheddar and olive muffins:)
This tearoom did not disappoint! The sandwiches, scones and accompaniments are delicious and the staff is truly wonderful. The tea selection is fabulous and high quality. Best of all.the tea is served hot!
