An institution among Montreal's vinyl collectors and crate diggers alike. They may have moved their entire stock from the second floor to the first, but Cheap Thrills is still full of character and ambiance-right in the middle of downtown! They have a lot of new records plus a good slection of used vinyl in all genres. It's worth it to browse through their selection of used books as well. Friendly and knowledgeable staff as well.

It's a nice place to get old records, specially indie and R&B, but they could improve the variety.

Such an awesome record store! Got a great deal on American Idiot. The staff were super helpful!

Love this spot! There’s a great selection of records along with some CDs, books, and even a few cassettes. I was very happy to find the A Charlie Brown Christmas soundtrack on cassette. It was even on sale so it was a great deal compared to anywhere else that you could find this cassette. Along with this the store offered great customer service by answering questions and even giving great restaurant recommendations.

New and vintage music on cd and vinyl. A trip down memory lane for sure. A place to go for music fans of all genres.

Amazing record store, it was under construction and a lot of items were still being moved around. Would have given the shop a 5 star review otherwise. Bought some cheap used cd's and found rare titles even for 5$ each. Seems like THE place to shop in Montreal for music.

Great little store with a ton of used and new records. There's also books, CDs, and cassette tapes. Was surprised that I couldn't find any KISS albums or movie soundtracks, but there's still a lot there for any person's music tastes.

Great store with a wide choice of records well organized and with reasonable pricings. The staff is also really friendly and helpful.

Good selection of CDs from many styles (jazz, rock, metal, pop.). Price range from 5 to 7$.

Excellent place with lots of Rock vinyls and CDs. U can algo find some Pop music too. Saw some Adele, Taylor Swift over there.

It's a Montreal's gem. An old small building, broken window, musty door. Creapy coated stairs areleading to the first floor. And inside a completely different world, some smart people hanging around in a quite friendly and relaxed atmosphere. I saw a bloke was staring in “The great rock and Roll Swindle” out of a pile of records. An amazing place, with huge selection of vinyl, cassettes, CDs and rare books. Must visit

Very cool place to find some old records and books. Walk up the stairs and up to the left and enjoy!
04 May 2022 2:55
Amazing little hole in the wall shop with a great selection of vinyl and books (new and gently used). The collection of albums is nicely curated so you're not left flipping through piles of junk, and there's always a gem to discover. Friendly, knowledgeable staff are there to assist and spin great tunes as you browse.

Cheap thrills? More like meat pills!

For real though, I reunited with my absentee grandfather is the used goth punk section of the store.

I've been looking for a good record store in Montreal, and wow, this place.what can I say. Old, new, they have it. Was a little sad I couldn't find some ska punk but that's not on them. I left with a limited edition vinyl from one of my favourite bands that I never thought I'd own. It's a bit of a tight space, but that makes it cozy. Can't wait to go back when I can spend money on another record.

Super great service. Very kind and helpful. This is definitely the place to go. Will return for sure.

Great variety and amazing prices! Every record has held up great, a lot of attention to detail in terms of what they sell and the quality of it. Anyone could find something they enjoy and something new!

I’ll break protocol here and point out the real reason why this is a great record store: records are underpriced! I could not believe it! I got a bunch of albums for which I should have paid substantially more than I did. Maybe it’s because I came from the United States and the excessive consumerism here had me confused, but I got a bunch of classic records I had been holding off on buying because I didn’t want the price they asked here for them. Highly recommend.

One of the best spots for records in town. Friendly and knowledgeable staff. Amazing selection, new and used.

Wonderful used book store. I love perusing the shelves. They have tons of great books and in decent conditions! They also have tons of vinyls and DVD's. I don't usually shop for those but they do have an awesome selection if that's what you're looking for.
The staff is always super friendly and welcoming.
Prices are fair.

Each time I come in it just feels so cool. The crooked staircase with the purple banister makes me think of Alice in Wonderland each time!

I really like this store because they carefully choose their books. They are all classics or bestsellers, you won't have to work hard to find a good book, this store does not keep boring and outdated books like thrift stores do.

Love this place, I think the location has changed from when I used to go in the late 80's, but same vibe and same store!

Quirky, cool record store in the heart of downtown Montreal. Staff is friendly and knowledgable!

Best book/music store in montreal. One of the last independent. The employees are nice and welcoming, and they offer a lot of variety big brand stores don’t offer. Their used section for books and music also offers a great variety you won’t find somewhere else. This is the kind of store that big brands are fighting to kill — and that we need to keep. So if you need music in mtrl, I encourage you to go shop there.

One of the last surviving great Montreal used book stores. They also sell old vinyls but it's their old books that interest me. The literature section is very well stocked as are more technical academic titles. I guess the store's proximity to McGill ensures that. The building the store is located in, also complements it's quaint charm. A great place to spend an afternoon going through old treasures.

Found exactly what I wanted Rolling Stones Their Satanic Majesties Request with180 gram vinyl and lenticular cover for a nice price

Great store! There was a big selection, great service and the prices are fair. I will definitely keep coming here for my vinyls!

Niche used book and record shop. Good deals can be found on all media (DVDs tapes, VHS). A carefully curated selection of each.

I lived in Montréal working and studying decades ago and I'm so happy to see that Cheap Thrills is still in business. It's a great record and CD store with fabulous music finds at a great price! This is definitely a go-to place for anyone who is interested in music to purchase what they want either who lives in Montréal, or from other places all over the world! Thank you, Cheap Thrills!

Very good metal selection and very friendly staff. Well located. Prices for vinyl are in the average. Quite a bit of underground metal.
02 September 2019 4:10
Great used records and books in the last remaining 1870's building on the block. They specialize in punk and metal!
01 September 2019 5:07
Vinyl/CD stores are drying up. This place is wall to wall music. I found Conan The Barbarian soundtrack for a reasonable price. Lots of Death and Black metal.
31 August 2019 22:11
Super awesome atmosphere. Wasn't able to visit for a long time but I walked in and bought a record. The prices are good too.

I recently checked out Cheap Thrills during my first visit to Montreal. It was the last shop I stopped at before heading back to the U. S.

I must start my review first talking about the god awful parking. This is a very busy area and parking was seriously the worst. I'm not sure if it was because of the workday or what, but it was an inconvenience. The shop itself is located upstairs in a building that houses other businesses. After walking up the carpeted stairs I noticed the shop on the left.

Inside I really liked the overall setup and look. Small, but lots of records. The ratio of new vinyl really trumped the used selection by a lot! There was a great variety though of new records, but that's not really what I was searching for.

There was one record not on the floor that I requested from the discogs page. The guy behind the counter kindly grabbed it for me. I picked through most of the used records, and only seemed to find one other one that caught my eye.

I have to admit I was a bit disappointed with the overall used selection, especially hip hop. Yes they technically had a section, but it was mostly 12"'s and abysmal. They also had cassettes,
CDs, and books.

I'm glad I checked out the shop for its history, but not a really deep used vinyl selection worth the headache to park.

I tried shopping for vinyls in a couple of record stores and couldn't find anything I wanted to spend money on. But this place is the exact opposite, I can't afford all the stuff I'd want to buy in there. Fair pricing too!

Close your eyes. Imagine a vintage record shop in a vintage-like setting. The guys there are passionate and it shows!
26 June 2019 6:40
What a fun store! I felt like I was in another decade! The girl worker was super nice and let me have a 7inch free of charge! If you are in the area definitely go! Thank you cheep thrills for making my vacation so much more enjoyable I will definitely be back:)

02 February 2019 7:06
They sold me a vhs with the starwars christmas special on it even though it was a rental. Great service!
25 January 2019 11:48
11 January 2019 22:23
I thought there would just be a lot of old timey records but surprisingly there was lots more than I presumed. Plenty of solid releases both old and new. Definitely recommend to music fans. There are also DVDs and books for your consideration.
