Eggspectation

We went there on Christmas afternoon, not many places were open for lunch in the downtown area but Eggspectation did not disappoint.
From the moment we walked in, everyone was friendly and accommodating, even though we didn't speak much French.
The dish sizes were still large and everything was fresh and tasty.
We were hungry and my son, as always, ordered too much food, and the waitress tried to warn him. She later brought us containers for the leftovers.
Another thing I liked was that even though it was busy afternoon they did not rush us, like they do in some US restaurants to get more tips from next customers.
We always try to go to Eggspectation for breakfast/lunch while in Montreal, we've been to different locations, and they always justify our high eggspectations.

Solid place for a good breakfast. Service was fast. Only reason for 4 stars, we were seated at a dirty (sticky juice) table.

I’m still sitting down in the restaurant as I write this review. Nothing inherently bad about the place, certainly nothing special. Especially not for $65 dollars. I’m visiting Montreal and decided to give it a go. We ordered the Montreal Bene, and the French toast. Both weren’t bad but nothing to write home about. My main gripe is the side of eggs I ordered. Looked like it was pre-made a couple of hours ago and tossed into a dish. This to me is something I’d expect my nephew to make on Mother’s Day when he’s 7 years old. Shockingly bland and presentation was awful. Overall, if you got no other choice, you can do worse, but I wouldn’t come back.

Our server was great, but I can't believe we just paid $80 for that meal. Possibly the worst breakfast we have ever had that wasn't something I ruined myself at home. Nearly every item was a miss, down to the toast.

- Coffee: watery & weak
- Blackstone Benny: eggs had gelatinous, transparent whites. Underripe, hard avacados. English muffins clearly storebought. Overall bland.
- toast was burnt with butter covering about an inch in the middle
-pancake unbuttered but otherwise not terrible
- chicken & waffles: waffles crumbly, almost seedy, & dry with a strange, strong fishy flavour which I sent back. Replacement was less fishy but still awful texture-literally falling apart off the fork. Kids-meal style Tenders rather than crisply battered boneless chicken one would receive at a quality establishment. I didn't eat it so essentially paid $20 for the included toast and a kid's chicken tender.

Very disappointed; we are only in Montreal for a few days and really feel like we wasted a meal in a town of good food.

So good we returned during our brief visit to old Montréal.
Attentive and friendly staff, great menu and delicious food. Wonderful artwork on the walls and some lite jazz playing in the background. From omelets to crepes, from bagels and lox to smoked meat and eggs, everything was very fresh and cooked to perfection.

Staff was friendly but that was about it.
Food was cold which is not what you want for eggs.
Service took forever. We saw 3 tables eat and leave while we were there. We waited 40 minutes to get our bill. We were also there for over 2 hours and never offered refills on our glasses.

Visited here in October 2022:
This location is in a nice spot in Montreal. My wife and I showed up and got a table within 10 minutes of waiting. I was impressed at all of the food options on the menu. The creative french toast was delicious, and I would easily get it again. Had some coffee as well, which was great, as I don't typically drink coffee without a lot of sweeteners. Our server was busy, but attentive to making sure we had what we needed at all times.
If you're from the states, expect a little slower service here, but that comes with not being rushed out the door as soon as you're done eating and paid.
Restroom (toilette) was located downstairs but was clean.
Would easily return again if visiting Montreal.

Went in in a cold morning to a sweet and quiet place with a very kind and attentive service and generous and tasty food.
The menue is large and there are a lot of choices, everybody can find something.

We took a new dish of lemon and ricotta pancakes and a bagel and eggs dish called yolk around the clock. Were very happy with the choices. All in all a great place for a good and satisfying breakfast. Highly recommended.

I shouldn’t have expected much. The french toast I ordered was a joke. But this is a diner, not a restaurant nor a cafe. I do appreciate the bottomless coffee. Otherwise the french toast wasn’t sufficiently soaked before pan-fried. I wonder if the were cheap on eggs, milk and butter. And, it tasted like they used cheap strawberry jam, which killed pure maple syrup that the menu claimed they used. $26 for cheap tasting french toast and coffee. I have to give them no other than one star.

J'ai commandé une poutine. Le plat est arrivé pratiquement froid. Non seulement la serveuse ne s'est pas excusée (c'est le minimum) mais en plus quand elle me l'a amenée pour la 2ème fois ce n'était toujours pas chaud.
Si vous voulez goûter cette fameuse poutine, surtout n'allez pas là bas, vous allez être déçue.

Delicious food, great service. It definitely was a little bit of a slower dining experience so make sure you aren’t in a rush!

Restaurant staff have poor customer service and extremely rude - felt like racism to me.

Also feta omelette was just a veggie omelette with broken up cubed feta pieces, sprinkled on top of the omelette (not infused and melted with the omelette). Their brioche french toast was pretty basic.overall, food was just average and nothing phenomenal.

Avons savourer la crêpe bretonne "Rêve végétarien", un mélange de champignons, d'épinards, d'oignons rouge et d'asperges, le tout recouvert de fromage.

Mhmmmm, un délice pour les papilles!

2 servers on the floor and 2 staff in the kitchen with a packed restaurant of hungry customers.this was a disaster. The staff, being under tremendous pressure, was constantly dropping cups and plates on the floor, refilling fresh coffee into old cups that we were served hot drinks prior that were not coffee.
When we received our food it was cold. The crepes were chewy and the avocado not ripe.

The staff tried hard, but the restaurant failed.

Restaurant staff were extremely rude. The food was fine, but definitely not worth the poor customer service. Perhaps better off to try an alternate location or restaurant all together.

Service was wonderful! Food & drinks, especially coffee/hot drinks, were so good. Our server Amine was also very kind & fast.

Nourriture excellente, j'ai même demandé au serveur de complimenter les cuisinier. D'ailleurs, l'équipe est formidable, attentionné et elle s'assure qu'on ne manque de rien!

Great service, quality food. I had the 3 egg Omlet with avacados and Salsa, which was very tasty. The Holland sauce was rich and the potatoes were fresh. Missing star due to small portion sizes and long wait time. Other than this, the environment is great for friends

Je suis allée avec mon copain et nous deux sommes d’accord que:
-le service est excellent! La serveuse était super attentionnée et pleine d’énergie et charismatique.
-la nourriture est merveilleuse. On est sorti de là avec le ventre rempli et super satisfaits. Les œufs bénédictines étaient super bon!
L’endroit est propre et la table était désinfectée. Toutes les normes sanitaires COVID ont été suivies!
J’étais super satisfait. Merci beaucoup pour l’expérience!

Wow, un incontournable du vieux-port de Montréal. Je m'y rends toutes les semaines et j'aime beaucoup aller manger à ce restaurant

J'y suis aller deux fois et les deux fois c'étais pas mangeable. Repas à 20$ mais j'aurais pas payé plus que deux piastres pour ce qui ma été servie.

Première fois à ce restaurant et sûrement pas la dernière. Super service, le personnel est souriant, courtois et attentionné à nos demandes. Ce fut un magnifique moment en famille, quelle joie de se retrouver dans un endroit si chaleureux, ça fait du bien après de longs mois confinés.
