Great place and the food is amazing! I loved the waiter, she’s so sweet and gave us shots for our long wait time! Only concern is it’s very crowded and small location (i wish it was bigger) so long wait time if you come without reservation but good atmosphere overall:)

Great atmosphere and very cozy. Food was quite good and the service was excellent. Definitely will come back again.:)

We came here a couple of times before and liked the place. However, we came here on a Tuesday to have a quick bite and a drink on the terrace to enjoy the beautiful weather. The waitress today gave us a horrible service. She forgot to bring us the wine menu and it took 45 minutes to get the bottle we ordered.
She gave us 2 dirty glass and a warm bottle. When we mention the glasses were dirty, she didn't even change them. We were so disapointed that we decided to grab a bite elsewhere.

Both waitresses were young and lack experience, they didn't even let us taste the $80 bottle wine we ordered before pouring into our dirty glasses.

Please careful on hiring your staff.

Beaucoup de variétés sur les plats mexicaine. Les portions sont corrects et les sauces savoureux.

My second time here, stopped for lunch this time and got a great lunch plate combo with 2 veggy tacos, chips, guac and a churro! Great deal! At dinner it can get a little loud though

While taking my dog for a walk, we felt a little "snacky"
We ordered a guacamole and salsa nachos, $12 (cheapest thing that caught my eye)
Well, was I disappointed!
The prompt and polite service brought me a "meal"
It hit the spot, more than I intended.
Dog friendly sidewalk service, such a delight.

We had a great meal at El Gordo. Our server was amazing. We were visitors to Montreal, so we asked her for some sightseeing tips. She even texted a friend to see if they also had some ideas for us!

Came here with my girl and we got cocktails, an appetizer and two types of tacos.

Our appetizer was good we had the fried calamari nothing special but good.

Atmosphere was nice music was good, you can see the inside of the kitchen sitting down which is not smth I personally liked, a curtain or smth would be nice.

My girls cocktail was nice and strong mine too but my margarita came in a small mug? That was weird didnt think margarita glasses were hard to get for a restaurant?

Ok so the food, my tacos were sadly cold. Not sure if they’re supposed to be but don’t think so, tasty, but cold. My girl got the birria tacos and they were amazing, hence the 3 stars, hot, had cheese and tasted great.

On nous a dit que le fajitas à partager allaient être assez. Nous avons décidé de prendre deux type de tacos en plus de l'assiette fajitas au boeuf à partager. Les accompagnement pour fajitas sont arrivé dans de minuscules pots. Les tacos était délicieux mais ils était si petit que je me demandais pourquoi ils coutaient si cher. Lorsqu'on a demandé à la serveuse si c'était possible d'avoir d'autres pots d'accompagnement, on nous a dit que c'était 2 dollars du pot (gros environ comme la moitié d'un petit V8 pour les lunchs, c'était des petits pots bruns comme pour mettre du beurre). La serveuse nous a dit qu'ils s'étaient trompé de pot d'accompagnement mais de toutes évidences, les autres tables avaient la même chose. L'assiette fajitas est composée 65% de riz, 25% de legumes grillés et un maigre 10% de viande. Nous avons eu l'impression de payer pour du riz.

Nous avons pris des churros en dessert et il n'y avait rien de fantastique. Pour 4 tacos (pensez à une petite feuille d'érable pour la grandeur), une assiette de fajitas (qui réellement comble une personne) et 6 churros à 92$: nous aurions mieux fait de manger ailleurs.

Ça faut deux mois que j'ai un billet de spectacle et que j'ai l'intention d'aller manger là avant. Pas de chance à prendre, trois jours avant, j'appelle pour réserver. On me dit que seul et vers 18 heures, pas nécessaire de réserver, il va y avoir en masse de place. Je me présente le jour du spectacle.pas de place. Jamais mangé là et j'y mangerai jamais.

Great food. Service is okay - the personnel is friendly but there’s a shortage of people as the place was crowded. One tiny toilet that was occupied all the time. The music is too loud - if you want to talk, choose the outdoor tables.

Salle extrêmement bruyante. Aucune générosité dans les plats, les portions sont très petites et le goût n’a rien de surprenant. Pour un plat de tacos à 17 dollars, j’espérais avoir un accompagnement avec les tacos, mais hélas… rien… seulement une sauce. Le seul point positif est que les employés sont super.

Very good fish tacos. Im from Nayarit, Mexico and it been really hard to find good fish tacos. I’m very judgy about my Torillas and there good here and the fish is of good quality. The Drink are very good here too!

The best fish tacos I've had since I arrived in Canada 2 years ago, I really recommend them 10 out of 10

Ce restaurant détient maintenant la triste distinction de m’avoir servi les pires Tacos que j’ai mangé de ma vie. Super super super sec. Même mon ami, qui a commandé un autre type de tacos, c’était super sec et pas goûteux. En aucun cas, ces plats auraient du sortir de la cuisine.
Le service était bien, considérant que la serveuse était seule.

If you enjoy Mexican, A worthwhile 30 min walk from Sheraton downtown. The neighbourhood has a real Montreal atmosphere.

We got the "large" nachos for 17$ which were tiny and came with no sides. Between 4 grown men it was like having an appetizer for 1. The fajitas were fine, but really nothing special. Overrall just another mediocre mexican restaurant.

I first tried these at Osheaga and really liked them so I decided to have them again at the restaurant itself. I couldn’t order the taco I had at the festival unfortunately (only available on a certain day) but the shrimp tacos I got were very tasty! I don’t usually enjoy any type of mayonnaise sauce in my food but it all blended well together. I enjoyed it

The margarita was perfect though it was served to me in a mug like that was weird i want to be holding a cup bigger than my face but still so good.the arrachera tacos were so good like omg but just 2 tacos didn't feel like enough.the music was perfect too i felt like i was at my tios place.thank you!

Nice ambience. Food was ok.staff were great.we had the tacos (fried chicken) and quesadilla (birria). 2 tacos per plate. Prices were a bit higher than usual.taco size was albeit bigger than usual.

We had some tacos, Quesadillas and nachos. I felt the pork was dry and lacked flavor. For the price, the food was mediocre at best. The service was good, and the ambience was nice. Overall in my opinion it's not a great place to have food but a nice location to have a few drinks with SO, friends/dates/colleagues. I would rather go to some other place to have Mexican food.

El Gordo is a margarita and taco paradise! The margaritas are perfectly balanced and refreshing, while the tacos are packed with authentic flavors that truly hit the spot. The combination of these two favorites makes El Gordo a must-visit for anyone craving a fantastic Mexican culinary experience.

Very friendly staff and pretty good food. Missed some heat and everything we had were pretty similar in flavor, but fresh and fairly fast.
