My Wife and I stayed here a few years ago and this has to be one of the nicest stays we have ever had. It's not a new hotel, but super well maintained. If you are into new places and all the modern amenities this is not your place. But if you like old world charm and service you will love the Frontenac

Great location and service!
The only negative point is the extra fees that are added to the final bill. I paid via Expedia and they still add service fees. Other hotels don't do that.

Iconic hotel but, honestly, if you want to photograph it, you can easily do so from the street or even go inside (no one cares).
I had booked a room and an upgrade was proposed to a junior suite, which I agreed on since it was the end of a long vacation in Canada and we thought a bigger room would be better. The room itself was big, but the bathroom was so, so small! 2 square metres, maybe! The toilet was almost touching the bathtub and to use the sink, for example to wash your teeth, you had to position yourself awkwardly because it was tiny and glued to the wall. Also, the access to the bathroom was bad, because it was very close to the bed and had narrow doors (and you have no privacy, you see everything from the beds.).
Also, the breakfast situation was chaotic. You always have to wait in line for a long time (today, 30 minutes!) to give your name and room number, that they write in a tiny paper ticker, and then they will call you once a table is free. The problem is that you wait in line thinking the other people are also waiting to give their names, but some have already done so and they go before you, and it's crazy. We didn't understand this because, like today, there were 3 ladies at the breakfast reception and many free tables when we entered (? Why the wait?). It's unacceptable in a 5 stars hotel. And one other thing: when you are seated, there's no price signaled anywhere and you presume you can take whatever you like from the buffet, since there's no separation or clear division from the stands. However, they are so cheap that if they notice (and they also ask you that at the end) that you took a source of protein, like eggs or bacon, you are charged extra for that! Where in the world does that make sense in a luxury hotel? In Europe, you can usually choose between à la carte ou buffet, and buffet includes everything that is displayed, they won't see if you took salmon and charge you for that, or bacon, or eggs, or whatever, it's a flat price and you can choose. Maybe they should learn from them/us.

No one helped us with the luggage when we arrived and when we left (there are steps.), if you arrive by car it's so dark and there's a cardboard that hides part of the entrance that you don't see where you should go (we decided to park elsewhere, we were too confused), there's no night turndown or special treats like a chocolate on your pillow or something like that.we'll, nothing that explains the 5 stars hotel and the price.
If we had known, we would have stayed elsewhere cheaper and just taken photos of the hotel.

Ah, final thing: we ordered room-service once and never again. We specifically ordered a white wine, and they brought us a red wine more than 2 times more expensive, a soup that was supposed to be onion french soup and it was another thing (crème de légumes?), and almost 300 dollars with the tip.we were so tired that we didn't notice right away the wine thing and I was so baffled that I just signed the receipt, but it seemed such a scam.

Indescribable, i wish i could stay longer. Everyone was so nice and helpful, the building was beautiful and kept sparkling clean at all times. The main floor bar staff accommodated a large party that was unconventional for the space but they made it work.door men and drivers were all helpful and friendly. Best experience.

Phenomenal hotel and location.
Everything you would expect and more from a luxury hotel.
As a note the hotel tour is a must and Kudos to Count Frontenac who was our guide.
He is so much fun and so knowledgeable.

Fairmont Gold is worth it. Rooms have an excellent view. Lounge and staff is very friendly. Food at Le Sam is to die for

I stayed at this hotel for 2 nights on the 11th floor on Friday and Saturday. The room was pretty big with a sofa. I enjoyed the privilege to have breakfast, 3 snacks till 10 pm. Breakfast was a buffet breakfast that had smoked salmon, a variety choice of coffee, eggs, hams, crescents, Danish brakery, cereal, fruits, soft drinks, and juices. I also joined the hotel tour, which was fantastic to see and know about the history of the hotel. Don't miss it.
04 September 2023 6:24
Was not a guest of the hotel however we did go for the breakfast buffet. Did not know there was a time limit essentially and so after about 45 minutes of struggling to find parking we ended up being and feeling quite rushed for eating. The food was good but I have had better. It's really about the experience of the fancy hotel, etc.

Our server, Maxime, was quite lovely. Attentive and kind. Gave us great tips and helped us validate our parking.

Overall you go for the experience and not really anything else.

Beautiful architecture and the quality associated to the Fairmount hotel brand. A beautiful boardwalk in front called Dufferin Terrace with a amazing view of the port and river Saint Lawrence. In general, Quebec City, and in special the Old Quebec is incredibly beautiful and picturesque.
27 August 2023 22:46

The place is part of history and just amazing. The restaurants and bar inside the hotel have amazing food and drinks. Definitely recommend

One of the most beautiful hotels, both inside and out! When entering the lobby, you are greeted by a gorgeous, old-world hall and the fragrance of jasmine. We had a large and comfortable room with high-end finishes. Our view of the courtyard was interesting but we would have preferred a better vista. That said, we use the room primarily for sleeping. The staff provide a very high level of service and accessing the most popular tourist spots in the city is easy as the Chateau Frontenac has a great location. My only gripe is that the price is relatively high. Some other hotels nearby have the same level of comfort for less cost. But, you do get to stay in a stunning piece of history. The novelty of the castle stay is worth it for a night or two and not for all six of the nights we stayed there. For that reason, my review is not five stars
28 December 2021 6:10
Beautiful hotel centrally located in old Quebec. A hallmark of visiting old Quebec with lots of history.
22 December 2021 10:27
Fantastic accommodations and service right in the middle of old Quebec City make this "THE" place to stay when you visit Quebec. Just steps from everything!
20 December 2021 12:55
Amazing staying here! The service was great, the food was tasty.great and amazing environment, very friendly staff and helpful. This hotel is fabulous. Old Quebec is beautiful, it reminds me of a European town.

Amazing place and received wonderful service. We had some issues with a 3rd party booking company found online which turned out to be a scam. Barbara from the front desk had some much empathy for us and was able to find us a room on a sold out night.

There are free activities at the hotel. MKe sure you stop by the concierge and ask.

We love this hotel and surroundings. Very charming area.
16 December 2021 14:31
Great location in Quebec City, very accessible to sightseeing areas with a beautiful view of the river. When we went here the hotel was really busy however the staff were still very helpful and friendly. The room interior is showing its age for an old hotel, however no complain from us. Would love to stay again!
13 December 2021 6:39
Absolute perfection! The hotel is gorgeous and very cozy and comfortable. Wonderful hospitality. There is nothing lacking and all the services provided are wonderful and with the utmost great customer service. The rooms are very lovely and also quiet and peaceful.
10 December 2021 23:12
A refaire absolument!
08 December 2021 20:46
Frontenac is an institution, it is supposed to be the most photographed hotel in the world. Judging by the amount of people taking photos in the lobby, that statement is probably right. The hotel exudes old money, the decorations are traditional. Thankfully that does not extend to the rooms. They are tastefully appointed with a mix of old and new. My only complaint is the bathroom. It is gorgeous, but you need to be a Cirque du Solely artist to reach the toilet paper. TV is probably LCD. Overall, if you can afford it is a great experience.
04 December 2021 6:46
The temperature control is crazy noisy. And it is not able turn off! You have to sleep with the noise overnight. Front door has steps only. I have to carry heavy luggage over it. And the luggage carts doesn’t allow you use them yourself if you don’t want to pay.
14 November 2021 10:37
16 October 2021 12:35
What a five star hotel of the old city. You can expect it to be expensive but really a great experience.
12 October 2021 4:09
The hotel looks good, and the staff was super nice which is the reason I didn't taste it one star.

We were in room 1806, and this was definitely not a 5 stars hotel room. The room was tiny, the carpet was ripped and the furniture was broken with a door that wouldn't close.

I'm addition to that, just like with cars, the more luxurious the hotel, the more you have to pay for every single option! I cannot believe that in 2021, a hotel still charges 20$/day for wifi! Also plan 40$/day for parking.
07 October 2021 22:41
Best place to visit in Quebec City. Game room was so fun for the kiddies. My daughter felt like a princess.
03 October 2021 21:14
Nice historic place. Full of activities outside hotels like music, juggling etc.kids enjoy the activities a lot. Excellent place for walking. Ice cream parlour is nearby. In general its a cool calm place for sitting and enjoying your time.
29 September 2021 15:31
This place is just simply exceptional, outstanding. The staff is world class. The facility is awesome. The location is just perfect.
05 September 2021 23:04
Prices are disproportionately higher than what it’s worth. No bottled water in room, valet parking only and it costs 40$ per day. To be fair the view from the room was good, which is probably worth three stars
20 August 2021 23:50
Chateau Frontenac is so beautiful and full of history Quebec city was one of the best vacations I went on it was just like France without traveling across the pond ton's of history and exploring the narrow backstreets trying out the small French restaurants that were 100's of years old and the gigantic château was amazing such a beautiful place I would definitely recommend visiting
20 August 2021 15:44
The center-piece of old Quebec upper town, the place has held its heritage aesthetically. I still can’t afford to spend a night in one of their rooms, but there’s no doubt that it has a lot of grandeur
17 August 2021 12:03
We had the Sunday Brunch. Because of Covid they serve it at the table. Very fancy food that is pricey but delicious. My main dish was beef wellington (thank goodness not too big because I ate a lot of the other parts of the meal first) absolutely delicious! Highly recommend this brunch. Hotel is beautiful wonderful staff and great atmosphere.
19 July 2021 2:19
Roberto checked us in. We were on our honeymoon and had been having some poor service at other hotels. He was amazing and upgraded us to a top floor room with cool views and truly made the experience. It's clear they are still short staffed with covid but they seemed to have trained everyone to have a good attitude and be friendly even with the apparent lack of staff.
16 July 2021 15:13
Not bad but really basic and rooms are not luxurious as you would expect from a castle. Any other hotels have better looking rooms.

They make you pay for the Wi-Fi an extra per day.
16 July 2021 13:20
Wonderful historical building. Fantastic accommodations, great eating for lunch and supper. Great experience! But would definitely go for a walk down the hill and take advantage of the local restaurants for breakfast.
23 February 2019 9:10
St. Lawrence River, this grand, castle-like hotel is a 3-minute walk from Cathedral-Basilica of Notre-Dame de Québec and 8 minutes’ walk from boutiques in Quartier Petit Champlain. Sophisticated rooms, traditional or contemporary decor, flat-screens, Wi-Fi, and tea and coffeemakers. Room service is available. Breakfast served in a cafe with river views. Upscale restaurant, a wine bar, and a bistro. Other amenities include a spa, and a fitness center with an indoor pool.
22 February 2019 20:13
I went to visit the area around Chateau Frontenac. There is so much to do such as tobaggon rides, the Funiclaire, and maple taffy making in front of the building.
13 February 2019 18:01
I can see why they call the Chateau Frontenac the worlds most photographed hotel. From the time I entered through its handcrafted, gilded revolving doors into the main lobby, it was like walking into another era, albeit a magical one. Made for an unexpectedly wonderful experience. Much like in the movie Midnight in Paris, this iconic hotel the day I entered (28 Dec 2018) gave me a glimpse of what it might have been like 125 years ago.makes me think of all those before me who may have walked through these very doors. For a brief moment.felt like I was a participant and a witness to the making of history.
12 February 2019 18:29
29 January 2019 2:45
The hotel is a gorgeous Castle right in the middle of old Quebec so it could not be any better for tourists. The rooms are clean and the service is polite and bilingual. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay
22 January 2019 19:38
Its a 5 star hotel with a lot of ups but with downsides to it as well.

The place is very clean and the staff are all nice. Everyone is saying Hi, even those who you don't expect it.

Its great to know their Valet service have another building for parking lot so its worth it to pay extra for their service because good luck finding space if you're planning to stay over 2 days in Quebec City.

Their pool is really beautiful and if you plan to get a massage, its right next to it. Eventually since its a castle, you'll get charged more. In my area you can get a massage for $80/1h but not in that beautiful castle.

Like every business on earth, they too know how to make money off clients, Don't use their fridge in your room unless you're ready to get charged automatically that you like it or not. Ounce the door of your fridge is open, you're account will be charged and eventually there is a message saying so but its so small and not lighted up so you get. Another downside is that big bottle next to your TV that cost $9.in a normal corner store It cost less than $5. Poor tourists who will get into this trap but thats business right? Bring your own bottle of water, a 4L bottle should be your minimum

What was the price for eating at this castle $36-38 per plate? Really! I hope at this price, every accessories are made in gold because you can get cheaper and better price elsewhere (right next to the cadtle there are restaurant that charge less per plates).

Overall its worth the experience but plan ahead where you will eat, park your car etc.because in every business on earth there is a way to make extra money off a client who dont know any other place or scared of driving a bit further to save few bucks.

We all love to save money, right ;)

The hotel gets a 5 stars from me for its cleanliness and how staff threats you.but the 4 stars is mainly for the high traps $$$, if i could i would give a 3.5 stars but since we can't then keep the 4 stars.
21 January 2019 21:38
19 December 2018 8:12
This is an icon and a precious landmark of Québec. Haven't stayed there but this building is a very impressive place. Located at the centre of tourist attractions, this is one of the most artistic and historical place in Canada.
16 December 2018 3:27
Spectacular hotel in old Quebec. I'd wanted to go there for the last 25 years and my partner and I went there this week for our honeymoon. We had gold level rooms which came with a concierge for our floor, breakfast and other snacks during the day. Everyone was very friendly and accommodating. I would highly recommend this hotel if visiting Quebec.
14 December 2018 6:24
Such a gem. The staff offers a great experience and from what Ive heard, most of them have been there a while. Its a historical site and it as tours as well.
03 December 2018 2:34
08 November 2018 17:46
Perfect location in a very scenic town. Had a room with a superb view.the staff was extremely friendly and multilingual. The bar was a bit small for such a large hotel, but compensated through an impeccable service and products. The pool/ sauna area was also a bit small. All in all the perfect location, if affordable.
