I've been going to this restaurant a couple of times a year for at least 5 years with my girlfriends. The food has always been amazing and the waiters are mostly friendly and helpful.

Last time we were there, the server messed up the bill and got snippy with us, but we saw it as a one-off thing. I had asked for an extra chicken to take home and he included it in the bill to be split. He didn't think nor ask how the bill was to be presented.

I was there again tonight. Like many restaurants, their prices have jumped but what perturbed me was an issue regarding the water.

The waiter asked us if we wanted still or sparkling water. We said still, assuming it would be tap water like it always has been. Imagine the surprise when my friend picked up the bill and there was a $13 charge for two bottles of water.

We argued the toss because a) it's never happened before and b) the waiter never asked if we wanted just tap water. Yes it came in a bottle, but I didn't notice him cracking the lid and most places recycle bottles to save our planet, pouring tap water into them.

I've just been in another country and the stipulation was made very clear at every single place we went to so we were all a bit miffed.

Now, the guy could've been nice and agreed to cover one bottle of water as an honest mistake, but instead he argued the toss and stood his ground. It was imported Portuguese water afterall! (Who the F cares about that?)

Hoodwinking customers is not exactly a nice way to do business Mr. Galo owner/operator on tonight.

Your chicken may be 5 stars but your service is in the sewer. BE WARNED PEOPLE. I will not be in a hurry to go back there in principle

The food is amazing, no question - this place has phenomenal reviews and is always busy for a reason.it pains me even writing this, and probably won't make a difference - but if the owner of a restaurant demeans me & hangs the phone up in my face because i had an issue with an order, it has to be shared.i called to place an order for pick up and asked them to make sure it wasn't spicy.i've ordered here many times and it never has been, but because my child is so young i always specify.the owner told me to come in 30 minutes.i came an hour later; the food still wasn't ready.no problem - i reminded them one more time to please make sure the food was not spicy.an employee was packing my order and was about to add hot sauce on the side, and a third time i asked to not have anything spicy.the owner at that point reassured me, quote, "i asked the chefs to rub extra garlic sauce on the chicken, it won't be spicy".

at home, trusting them, i fed my child his portion without double checking anything.immediately, he started sobbing - grabbing his tongue.he was so upset and of course it was painful for him.the food was VERY spicy.i calmly called the restaurant, reached the owner and explained what happened.he completely denied that his food was spicy in a very irritated and condescending tone.i explained my son's reaction and assured him it was definitely VERY spicy.he then changed his story and said, "madame, i TOLD you it was spicy.i told you it was spicy.it's your fault.you should pay attention next time! " he then told me i was "overwhelmed with a child" (which is so insulting? All we did was walk into the restaurant together; my child wasn't overwhelming and this is so disrespectful to even insinuate) when i tried to explain that i was clear that i couldn't eat spicy food, and he himself even assured me, he said "i don't have time for this, you know how busy my restaurant is" and hung up in my face.this was such a hurtful, demeaning, horrible way to treat me.i love this restaurant, have raved about it to friends and family, hit it up a few times a month and only wanted to be assured it wouldn't happen again.it IS a busy restaurant and the owner's attitude is simply telling that he didn't care about my experience, how it affected us and whether or not i'd return.the service IS hospitable, until you give any kind of feedback or have any kind of issue.

Incorrectly quoted cost of food, followed by awful service and dry food. I also witnessed a server stick the middle finger up towards a guest… incredible to see staff in this establishment that are capable of this. Recommend not going!

The food here is simply amazing. Every meal I have had here so far has been prepared to perfection.

The guy that answered the phone was very unpolite. He hanged up the phone while I was talking and when I calmly called back to clarify he told me straight to call another restaurant. Congrats and too bad because we ordered many times before at Galo. Sometimes you just have a bad employee!

We ordered the mixed meat plater for two, which had a good portion. I liked the chicken but the pork and the sausage were a bit too salty for my taste. The atmosphere is good but the restaurant is small so I don't think it will be easy to come with very young kids.

Food was really good but the service was awful. The server obligated us to take a second dishes even though my partner didn't want to eat. He told us a price and after it was the double to pay.

First experience tonight was amazing! The entrees we're delicious. The plates were big and tasty! Service was top notch! Honestly no complaints at all Such a cozy little place. I rate this a 10/10 definitely going to come back! Thank you for the wonderful service!

It's expensive and the quantities are not worth for the price. Used to taste good but now it's bad.

Very good - a neighborhood gem. Went for a late lunch early dinner, so was empty but filled up. Found a few spots across the street, but have a feeling it might be a challenge. Cute place, white table cloth and photos of the beaches in Portugal make it feel homey. The bread was good; the calamari was great as were the sardines. The (family). Chicken was really good. The rice pudding was ok, bit the natas were excellent. Plan to explore the menu further!

Quaint little place with class and a mediteranian vibe. Food is delicious and service was wonderful!

My husband and I visit Montreal one time a year and always make this a go to dinner experience. We love everything on the menu. It's a friendly casual place with one service. We always have a great time.

We reserved a table and got there on time, but after waiting for almost 20 minutes for a table, we had to leave.

Nice Restaurant, Nice Waitress But Extremely Dirty Cook! I ordered take out from this place today, got there a little early for pickup so i waited next to the cash until my order was ready. Noticed the Cook has Absolutely No Idea of Hygiene, he's constantly playing with his cell phone, earphones, scratching his greasy hair / head then picking up food like salad with his hands without once washing them. I totally lost my appetite and will never go back. In addition, this Cook was playing with the food on the grill, hammering the chicken with his pliers several times. In times of Covid in a town like Mount-Royal the owner should be more careful with who he highers in his kitchen, mop the greasy kitchen flores a bit too.

Ok place with Nice terrace. Chicken is very good and seafood is ok. Very good service. A few red & white wine options a available. Verdict: give it a try.

Plat mangé: Saumon et crevettes avec frite. Délicieux! Bien assaisonné. Plein de monde même un mercredi soir, il faut réserver avant. Seul bémol: le resto est petit.

Incroyable! La proprio est la plus belle poule de la place; mais le poulet est phénoménale aussi; le tout; une expérience qui touche plusieurs sens et qui met plein de sens. Excellent; hautement recommander!

I will give 3 stars because the meat was very salted and the fries very dry, and they brought the fries at the end when we finished eating the meat. The Manager is a very cold person, and service needs improvement!

Amazing food and service. The overall ambiance of the place was really cozy. I had ordered the lamb chops and every part of the meat has me savoring for the next slice. The staff was really accommodating and informative. I recommend this restaurant to anyone who hasn't tried Portuguese cuisine.

Helllooooo world of Instagram. So my uncle actually introduced me to Galo located on Graham street in TMR. It's actually a little hot spot for the area.

I love Portuguese Chicken and everything really around the Portuguese food. The chicken, the sausage, the bread, the salads, octopus dishes etc. To me it's all good.

Thing I really love about Galo is for me you get good value for your money and in a hurry it's normally really quick, so if you need to eat fast for lunch, you'll have enough time to eat if Ur in the area and go back.

I normally get the Portuguese Chicken Sandwich when I go and add goat cheese (trust me) to it, with the fries that are ever so crispy, drenched both in the piri piri sauce.

We have picked up from this restaurant many times during the pandemic. The food is delicious, generous portions, yummy. Owner is extremely pleasant. We look forward to eating in the restaurant when the pandemic is over.

First time eating at Galo but certainly not the last! Best chicken all of us in our party have ever had. Service was very friendly and the warm Portuguese tarts « Pastel de nata » were the perfect end to a most delicious meal. Hat’s off to Caroline and her team! Almost forgot, the fries were the best I’ve had in ages too.

Le poulet braisé et les frites sont excellents. La dernière fois, j'ai pris un steak: superbe. Et le personnel est très amical. Un vrai bon resto de quartier. Keep up with the good job.
