Classic "cave" steakhouse setting the category standard for decades. This is a Montreal institution and the highlight is the value-for-money. Top notch service: we had six servers for 40ppl. Portions are generous. Classic Montreal steak spice (be aware if you don't know Montreal steak spice, it can be peppery for those that try it for the first time) rubbed 22oz bone in ribeye was fantastic. Blue cheese wedge salad was half a head of lettuce, and the dressing was delicious and creamy without being heavy. Def must for blue cheese lovers. Nice lemon sorbet pallet cleanser. Cheesecake dessert was decadent as was the handmade ice cream. Key lime pie was nice and tart. Will definitely go back and highly recommend.

Group of 4. We were all served excect my collegue who order fillet mignon. He had to wait 5 more minutes. Then again, they make him wait for a regular coffee when my irish coffee was prepared, then, there after when my colleague told the waitress "He still wating for his coffe" she just took the jar and poured the coffee. She could have done that. Before she was told. Over all sercice was poor. I was expecting better service!

I was really disappointed with the experience at Gibbys. First of the all the men’s bathrooms are disgusting, both toilets were clogged and full of you know what. It took them over an hour to finally clean the bathroom then the you know what exploded on to the floor so you had to walk in it to use the washroom. I got upset at one of the kids fixing the toilet because the explosion got on my shoes and all he could do is say sorry. I had to throw out my new shoes because they got bowel movement all over them. No paper towels either.

I ordered the steak frites medium rare, they mixed up my order with someone else’s. After correcting it, the meat was still extremely tough and not tender at all. They really cheaped out on their steak frites. Some of the worst fries as well, they remind me of la belle province fries. The free pickles and bread were great though and they give large portions.

Don’t sit in the basement because it’s freezing cold down there.

This is was by far the worst service I’ve had at a higher end restaurant in a while.

We brought my mom there once for her birthday and It was her first time at Gibby’s. We called to reserve and specifically told them that it was for a birthday. At the end, our waitress was not made aware of that and we missed the celebratory dessert. It was supposed to be a special night.

The same thing happened to my sister tonight, she went for an anniversary dinner and did let them know prior to coming but their waiter was not aware of the special occasion.

Love the food and ambiance but the service is meh.

The whole experience of it was top. From start to finish Gibbys was truly amazing with their own rich history of the "The Gate" and their location, the entry warm welcoming and greeting, the elegant high-end classy atmosphere with some low volume Sade playing in the background, the top notch most professional server, the best cuts of steaks and all the care to each single little details made it a strong steakhouse pillar in Montreal.

Awesome last evening of our Canada trip. Excellent place, great food, outstanding service (Benjamin). I can warmly recommend.

My partner took me here for my birthday and I was not disappointed! For an upscale restaurant, I really enjoyed the ambiance and relax feel of the restaurant. We were sat right next to the fireplace which was lovely. Our waitress was amazing and made recommendations that were great and appropriate to our indecisive minds. We were not disappointed and will be coming back in again!

Birthday reservation, great service and ambiance! Tried the filet mignon with lobster tail, as well as beef Wellington. Delicious! Valet parking included, would recommend for a nice romantic date!

Food is fantastic, service is on point. No complaints only positives! Very nice and warm atmosphere, sat right next to a cosy fireplace and felt right at home. Definitely one of Montreal's top steak houses, has always been!

I experienced one of the best steaks I've had while eating at Gibbys.
[Food] I picked the Blue Cheese Wedge Salad as my starting item and it was the most simple and delicious salad I've had. The blue cheese is top notch. The second item was my medium rare steak. It was cooked and seasoned to perfection to be one of the best steaks I've ever had. It's a lot of food and it was mouthwatering with every bite.
[Service] I expected and received the best service.
[Atmosphere] The dim lighting is perfect to set the mood for an intoxicating experience with your steak.

Had a marvellous dinner here last night, everything was cooked perfectly. Although the restaurant was full and the servers very busy, the staff was extremely attentive to every request and detail. Highly recommend!

The BEST steakhouse I’ve been to. This is my go-to whenever I’m in Montreal. The steak is always cooked perfectly as ordered and everything (including side dishes and apps) and delicious. The service is fantastic and I’ve never had to wait long for any of my orders. Great ambiance and overall amazing dining experience.

Gibby's is a classic and for good reason. I decided to be a bit adventurous and attempt the wellington and Gibby's had no problem delivering. The cook was perfect and every part of the dish was delish. Our waiter Jeremy knew the menu front to back and was both incredibly helpful and attentive throughout the evening. It is a top rated steakhouse in Montreal and after tonight it is no surprise why.

What can I say about this 5 start place!

The service and the food were spectacular! We literally devoured our food! The meat was super tender and cooked on point. The salad and the sides were fresh and delicious. Our waitress was fun and also very nice.

If you want a place to eat and enjoy. This is your place!

Amazing restaurant! I was served Beef wellington and it was delicious. I was also surprised by how efficient and professionnal the staff was, especially Linda. She is an amazing waitress and she's also very friendly. She gave an incredible service (probably the greatest service I've ever had!). The decor and the atmosphere were quite enjoyable. I had a great experience at this restaurant. I strongly recommend anyone to try this restaurant and to ask to be served by Linda.

Really inviting atmosphere and staff. Food was delicious and the waiter suggested pairings of wine with our food which was a good choice! The complimentary valet was a nice touch too!

Food was great, especially the beef Wellington, the crust was very crisp and meet was tender. The lamb was ok, wish the flavour was stronger and more marinated. The sausage was good but very spicy to me even as someone who could take spice well. I loved the chocolate dessert the inside was filled with some sort of crisp crumbs which gave it a more diverse taste. However, the waiter we had kept rushing us like crazy. We were not done with our food and she asked to take our plates twice, and after we had our dessert we were not even half way done and she brought us the bill. Felt like she wanted us to leave or something. Overall food was great as expected but service could’ve been better.

What an amazing experience that’s all I can say. From the atmosphere, to the food to the service was 5 star across the board. We visited here for our first time via Toronto where we are spoiled with some amazing Steakhouses and Gibby’s in Montreal delivered to the highest level and then some I was really impressed. I loved the historic building and ambiance of the place. Our waiter was amazing, super friendly and knew his stuff and ultimately his overall service was top notch. Most importantly the food was amazing with plenty of choices to choose from to satisfy any craving. We sampled a nice variety as you can see in my pics and everything was delicious so I’m confident to say that I think anything you decide on should come correct. The Steaks were seasoned to our liking and cooked as requested. Some minor areas for improvement which are almost negligible are that the bacon provided for the salads and in the Monte Carlo twice baked potatoes can be improved a bit I think as it had a funny taste to us but that might just be our personal palate and the lobster tails are a bit on the small side but for the $20 charge is fair but a Steakhouse of this high caliber should have some larger tail options I’d think so these aren’t really negatives more just personal notes of my honest unbiased opinion from my first visit. Unfortunately we never had any room for dessert (which had some amazing choices) because we went a little extra up front but I’m already looking forward to my next visit whenever I’m in beautiful Montreal again to try some new things. Kudos to the entire staff and management at Gibbys for doing it right across the board and finally GO HABS GOOO? I’d highly recommend a visit here

First visit to Gibby's in a long while. Absolutely delicious dinner (lamb and filet mignon shish kebab cooked perfectly) and the excellent Gibby's salad. Service was outstanding. Would highly recommend.

Excellent quality. Tried the jalapeños sausage with mango chutney for starters and it was just the right tenderness and the sweetness of chutney complemented the jalapeños marination of the sausages. For entrée, we tried the rib eye steak - gibbys cut, and the meat was adequately tender for a medium well request. Overall, great experience. The two gentlemen who served us were knowledgeable and we were well taken care of.

Amazing staff, food, decor and overall experience. Of course there is a price to pay but it is truly a great experience.

Nous avons mangé à 3 dans ce restaurant le 12 novembre dernier et avons commandé chacun 3 queues de homard.
L' addition s’est montée à près de 200$
J'ai trouvé un morceau de verre (1cm x 1 cm) dans le riz qui accompagnait les queues de homard. Je l'ai signalé au serveur.

Leur réaction a été très légère:
Ils ont retiré mon assiette qui contenait encore une queue de homard et un peu de riz.
Ils m'ont ramené au bout de 20 minutes une autre petite assiette avec une autre queue de homard et un peu de riz.
Ils m'ont offert le verre de vin que j'avais commandé (14$)
ET C'EST TOUT!

Ayant subi le décalage horaire depuis la France, j'étais trop fatigué pour réagir le soir même et ne pensais à ce moment là qu'à aller me coucher.

Mais je tenais à partager cette expérience car les conséquences pour moi auraient pu être graves.

We 3 had a dinner in this restaurant last November 12 and each of us ordered 3 lobster tails.
The bill added up to nearly $ 200
I found a piece of glass (1cm x 1 cm) in the rice that accompanied the lobster tails. I reported it to the server.

Their reaction was very light:
They removed my plate which still contained a lobster tail and some rice.
After 20 minutes, they brought back another small plate with another lobster tail and some rice.
They offered the glass of wine I ordered ($ 14)
AND THAT'S ALL!

As I was just coming from France subject to the jet lag, I was too tired to react on the same evening and only thought about going to bed.
 
But I wanted to share this experience because the consequences for me could have been serious.

This is a place to come if you want an outstanding experience. Our server, Linda, was incredible and made us smile and laugh and her energy and enthusiasm was infectious. She was a true professional.

The food itself was top notch, I can say I've seldom had a meal which end to end was as good as this one. They also have an excellent scotch list for those of you who fancy a dram or two with your dinner.

Overall, if it's within your budget and you're looking for a memorable experience, come to Gibby's.

Gibby's is an exceptional steakhouse in an equally exceptional location. The building is really cool, with old stone walls and decor that accentuates the old school steakhouse atmosphere. The staff was great, very friendly and helpful. I enjoyed every part of our visit, from the pickles and bread to the appetizer and especially to my dinner. We ordered a mushroom tart to start and I got the Filet of Beef Wellington as an entree. I left feeling very impressed and extremely full. Beef Wellington is not available in most restaurants and for good reason, it's not easy to execute properly. This one was perfect, cook exactly as ordered and delicious. Gibby's will continue to be my stop for a great steak in Montreal.

I am impressed by this steak house, you will leave with a full stomach and a happy wallet. It is reasonably price and the quality is superb.

It's an old school fine dining steakhouse. Dim lights and a bit cramped. All male waiters that are professional and provides excellent service.

They give a warm loaf of bread with generous portions of butter and bacon and a bowl of huge pickles. We wanted to save our belly's for the steak so we barely put a dent in it, but asked for it to go hehe (excellent for the road trip back)

Apps- a little disappointing, nothing special
marinated onions and tomatoes.exactly what the name suggests. It's refreshing but would never had thought that it would be an app
Gibby's salad- I was expecting more from the dressing but it tasted like a regular salad to me.

They give a scoop of lemon sorbet to cleanse your palette before the main course.

Entrees- BEST COURSE EVER, sides are meh but you're here for:

Rib eye (gibby's cut) med rare- huge cut with bone in, got it with butter and garlic and it was cooked perfectly.you can stab your fork in and it wouldn't get stuck

Beef wellington med rare- first time ordering a wellington and I am impressed. A tender steak wrapped in a flakey crisp wrap, I can see why Gordon ramsay is all about it. My steak did look a little bit more on the rare side, not sure if that's how it is but it was so tender that I didn't even mind. Better than it being over cooked!

Dessert- too full for dessert but they do offer a whole birthday cake (vanilla sponge cake with whip cream and fresh fruit) if you noted that it was for a birthday/special occasion when making reservations. They even take a photo for you and print it out as a memory gift! Not a lot of places do this still. Such a nice gesture.

You got to try this place!

What a disappointment! Service was OK at best. The appetizers were very average escargots and curry shrimp. Anybody and anyone can come up with a better recipe and presentation. The Gibbys salad was borderline stale. The cuts of meat were JUST NOT GOOD! Dunno how to describe it.
For the money spent and the choices we have in montreal, there is no reason to ever go back there. Bathrooms are filthy, unacceptable for a place with that stature. Great example of how some restaurants are still making a killing solely off of the reputation they had 20 years ago.

We were 12 peoples last week I was very disappointed they drop our foods in the kitchen we dint eat together half had their plate and the other half received ther plate much later, ok they give us a free bottle a wine on a bill of twelve hunded dollars. Then the waiter was so scare not to have a good tip he was standing behind the person that was in charge of the bill we have to tell him to go away. I was in your restaurant a long time ago then it was excellent I dont know what happen we were not lucky that night.

Service impeccable! C'est la deuxième fois que j'y retourne et ça vaut vraiment la peine. Effectivement, les prix sont assez élevés, mais jusqu'à présent aucun autre restaurant ne m'a convaincu. Je vous recommande la spécialité de rib steak (Gibbys Cut) et filet mignon à la Diane. Pour ce qui est de l'accompagnement, je vous garantie que la patate Monte Carlo saura vous satisfaire. Pour finir, le dessert qui vaut le détour c'est le chocolat Gibbys.
Le service valet est offert gratuitement pour votre voiture, il suffit simplement de donner un pourboire au valet. C'est déjà assez difficile de trouver du parking au vieux port de Montréal, donc je vous le recommande fortement.

The service is great here. We were with a big group and they put us in the private room. Since this is a luxury restaurant and the prices match, I was expecting great food! However, I was quite disappointed with the quality of my steak. It really wasn’t that great! I wish I picked something else.
The fresh bread was good, as well as the escargot. The shrimp cocktail tasted like the shrimp was sitting out to long.

This is a perfect example of how a long lasting, succesful business, is doomed to stagnate.
Not an original item on the menu, everything I tasted except the desserts lacked any finesse in terms of texture or seasoning. Just very bland and expensive cuts of meat.
Portions were generous though.

One of Montreal is classic steakhouses beautiful old building down in old Montreal.the food is good but not exceptional, a little bit pricey for what you get compared to other places so you’re paying for the decor and ambulance. Service varies from very good to somewhat Parisien bistro, i.e. Possibly a little rude and pushy.

We all enjoyed our meals, a lot of food. You really don't need to order appetizers because you probably will not finish your main course. There was a big salad that came with the main coarse, really a lot of food. Serve was very good! Include a great bottle of wine and tip the bill was $300.00 for 3 people we were too full for dessert. Would eat there again for sure. A casual to dressy if you wanted restaurant 2 levels with a up stairs bar to relax with drink while you wait for your table.

I proposed to my wife here when we were poor students and so this was a fancy place to go.so nostalgia may have blinded me a bit. This latest visit (this past weekend) the food was ok. The prices were too high given local competition and the dated atmosphere. When i reserved, I told them we were there for our anniversary. Still, we had to complain to get a table that wasn't in the path of every server and guest, and the manager told us we were lucky to get a better table. Other than the manager wishing us happy anniversary on the way out, they did nothing to make the evening special at all. Even at Moxies they give you some cake for a special occasion. Try La Gorgotte around the corner - quaint, fantastic food and service, nearly half the price. Oh well. C'est la vie.

Went on a Thursday and in our area a large table had just left. The service wasn't great, waited quite a long time just to order and receive drinks - a couple who arrived after us received their drinks and food within a timely manner. The food was average given the price, which is quite expensive, nothing to be jumping up and down about. Overall it was ok, wouldn't go again.

A fun experience. We absolutely enjoyed our apps and the filet was perfect. The rack of lamb was superb. The ambiance is comfortable while still having class.

Nos repas étaient énormes! J’ai pris un steak et c’est le meilleur que j’ai mangé. Mon mari a pris un saumon et il a eu du mal à terminer son plate tellement c’était gros (très rare que ça arrive). Le personnel génial et ambiance superbe! Le prix est élevé mais on comprend vite lorsque les repas arrivent.et qu’on y goûte! Aucun regret et on y retourne c’est certain!

Excellent restaurant, assiette généreuse avec une ambiance chaleureuse. Le personnel est accueillant et souriant. Il y a un service de valet offert par la maison.

You can never go wrong at Gibbys. Make sure you order a Spanish Coffee and ask them to bring the cart to the table!
