Il ne se contente pas de servir, mais aussi de présenter chaque fois ce qu'il dépose sur la table et d'en donner les instructions pour la cuisson (concises et claires par ailleurs), le tout en gardant le sourire. Le restaurant se souci de fournir une expérience complète - bouffe, atmosphère et service - agréable et les employés semblent tout à fait disposés à y contribuer de manière significative. Nous étions cinq et tous ont apprécié sans réserve.

Looking for a last minute place to enjoy some Japanese food, we didn't know what to expect from Gyu-Kaku (I guess we should do some research before hand.) but were pleasantly surprised by the result. This is clearly a popular place being located on Crescent just below Ste. Catherine, especially with university students.

The dining style is cook-it-yourself meats and shrimps with some veggies. The menu is ridiculously large (see pictures) but help guide you through the multiple options. We chose the Holiday Magic Course multi dish option for two (even though there were three of us) and there was plenty of food to enjoy. The servings are mostly different types and cuts of meats (skirt steak, pork, hanger steak, kalbi short rib, and the like (see picture of YAKINIKU HOLIDAY MENU for details). The food kept coming and there was no break as we cooked, ate then received more food. We were stuffed at the end. Overall it was good and alot of fun but I am not necessarily a fan of having to monitor my own meal as I eat (but that's just me). The food quality is good, not out of this world but still tasty. Also, there are other cooked meal options like noodles and veggies if you prefer.

I liked the service team a lot as everyone took care of us.it wasn't assigned seats per server just ask who ever was passing and they would take care of you. It worked very well and added to the enjoyment. This is a place best for 4 or more people rather than a couples night. Enjoy!

Miso soup was served cold (they reheated it for me). The cucumber lime mojito was so bitter with lime taste that even after a top up of sprite it was still so bitter and there was no hint of any sweetness or cucumber. Order two plates of meat and both did not fresh. They forgot to serve the special sauce that was supposed to come with the prime kalbi. Rice felt old and dry. Nobody checked up on me, had to struggle to get waitstaff attention. Only thing good was the kimchi and grilled veggies. Would not recommend this location. Dined on a Tuesday night but the restaurant was packed.

Have been to Gyu-kaku more times than I can count. Management is a joke, they dont respect their customers!

J'ai ADORÉ! C'est un style de restaurant où je vais rarement, mais qui est vraiment l'fun entre amis et famille. On était 4, donc on a pris le menu pour 4. On s'est forcé à manger parce que c'était trop bon, mais c'est clairement beaucoup. Le personnel était vraiment très gentil et les plats arrivaient à très bonne cadence. Je recommande fortement

Food is excellent. We were very surprised by the service. The waiter came to our table at least 10 times to bring food, cleaning up the empty dishes and checking if everything if ok. They were very nice to our children too. The meat here is on another level of quality. The marinade is just perfect, the right level so you could taste the real meat. Not my first time here and always glad to eat there. Lunch menu on weekday is less expensive.

Service was top notch and the food was delish. Definitely bring comfy pants we were so full after our meal!

It has a really stupid system. My girlfriend and I arrived at 5: 30pm. But they just can’t offer us a table in such a empty and quiet restaurant. I just don’t understand why all the tables are reserved for the people who just made a call. Maybe they just don’t care about the customer who went there in person.

Très bon restaurant, le personnel est très sympa et les plats excellents. En plus les portions sont généreuses.

Nous avons dégusté le menu pour 4 personnes. La viande était tendre et délicieuse. Si vous trouvez que la viande est trop cuite, il n'en tient qu'à vous car le grill est sur la table et vous êtes le chef.

It was way too cold inside the restaurant. Food was average very similar to regular korean bbq.one thing i really liked was real wasabi.but too cold.

Honestly one of the best, if not the best, Japanese restaurants I've been to. The staff is super friendly and energetic (they all greet you and say goodbye to you in Japanese), and the food is fantastic! It's really high quality and fresh food.

Another great thing I loved is how you cook the meat on a real grill, not a tray with parchment paper, so you can really get those char marks. Not to mention, they had vents over the BBQ so the smoke never went in our faces, a big plus!

I definitely recommend this place and I'll be back soon!

Food is always good. The meats are fresh and the service is extremely good. Online reservation is easy. Restaurant is throughly clean.

The food was absolutely delicious. The staff were also kind enough to keep our reservation on a busy night even though we were 25’ late (they called us while we were struggling to find parking and were very nice once they heard that we’ve been trying for a while).

Absolutely amazing. Food was great, MUST TRY THE TAKOYAKI (octopus beignets)! Our waitress was really sweet and even other waiters made sure we didn't need anything. Dont be fooled by the cocktails prices, they are delicious and pretty! The location is nice and cozy with a good playlist. We will be back!

Lovely atmosphere, top notch service, and excellent food (the cocktails are also excellent). If you're not sure what to get, there are group packages with a preset assortment of things as well. Just be aware that the servings are large, so come with an appetite.

It's on the pricey side, but you definitely get what you pay for.

Me and my wife's favorite restaurant. Food is extremely fresh, staff is always amazing and service is always fast. There isn't one item on the menu that we have not enjoyed immensely.

Came here recently and was pleasantly surprised with my experience! Although they may give too much food (we ordered a menu for 4), which is not such a bad thing, the food was absolutely delicious! I enjoyed the music they played too. Overall, I would recommend this place. Just be sure to bring your appetite!:)

We spotted this restaurant this summer as we were walking downtown and kept it in mind to try. This place is a must! As you walk in, the restaurant is super clean and all the staff is friendly!
We had the server T and he was amazing, super friendly and explained everything precisely!
We ordered the Shogun pre fixe menu (we were a party of 7 including kids) and the portions were super generous. Not sure who enjoyed the experience more, the kids or the adults Now to talk about the food! Oh my! You start with soup and edamame and the best dumplings and then the fun starts with the meat and seafood, veggies.the fried rice is something that we are still talking about. We ordered extra garlic noodles and we were all fighting over them! We will definitely be going back I the very near future!

C'était ma première expérience dans un restaurant BBQ japonnais. Je ne connaissais presque aucun noms des plats au menu mais je me suis fier à leur recommandation. Tout était excellent. Très bon service. Très belle expérience avec mes collègues de travail.

La nourriture est bonne, les employés offrent un bon service, les prix sont raisonnables.

Seul petit point négatif, on nous avait prévenu qu'on avait deux heures, après, c'est dehors. Avec les multiples plats et le BBQ au centre de la table, c'était un peu le marathon pour terminer à temps!

Impossible de joindre le restaurant et ma serveuse à coupé 2 fois le téléphone au nez. Après une dizaine d'appel finalement, au bout de la ligne on a réussi à avoir quelqu'un à qui parler.

Excellent une des meilleures grillades que j'ai jamais manger, la personne qui nous avais accueillit nous avais un peut refroidis mais heureusement le serveur qui s'est occupé de nous est le meilleur il a été là pendant tout le repas il nous a aidé nous a donné des conseils revenais nous demandait si tout aller bien nous resservir etc.bref je pense que sans ben l'expérience n'aurait pas du tout était la même (ps: si il lit cet avis sache que tu ressemble a un youtubeur belge: seb la frite et merci pour ce repas),

Went for the all included experience. First, the quality of the food is very good and the quantity is more than enough. The variety of plates and cut of meat is definitely there. Everything tastes good and the " grill your meat " experience makes the meal kinda entertained by itself. Best Korean BBQ in town so far. A bit pricy, worth it.

The food was very tasty. Portion wise, we were 5 people and ordered the 6-person Shogun set. It was a near perfect amount. We had a couple of small takeaway boxes.

If you'd like to leave room for dessert, factor it in early. It's easy to order more delicious meats.

Service was excellent.

I went there yesterday. The food is very overpriced but i dont very care about that. The only thing that make me rate one star is their staff service. Very unprofessional and bad attitude. We ask for the menu to see what to order for desserts, and the lady looked at us like she don’t want us to order more. Anyways very disappointed.

I ordered food for pick−up by phone, and told 40 min to get ready.

I thought that 40 min was pretty much enough to prepare one bowl food.

However, it was not ready, and I waited for 20 min more there. Eventually, I had to leave without food for my bus.

Very disappointed for the service, and I will never order for pick up.

The menu was simple to understand, but the staff were on hand to provide assistance and recommendations. The food was fresh and flavourful. It wasn't cheap, but I have paid far more for meals and not been nearly as satisfied or full at the end.

I LOVED the server, Po! He was just professional, courteous, customer-oriented and efficient!
The food at the restaurant was good as well. If you follow their cooking instruction, you will be having food in perfection.
The reason why I gave 4 star for this 5-star experience was because of the table reservation and deposit payment arrangement was confusing.

Incredible meat, especially the different kind of 21 day's old beefs. Freaking tender, juicy and tasty. Our amazing server Po was the best as he delivered such professionalism along the night while being very friendly. Place is welcoming and clean. Price is decent for the quality of the meat and other little plates. Had a memorable experience with my fam tonight!

I tried a Gya-Kaku the last time I was in Tokyo, as well as one of their branches located in NYC. Gyu-Kaku Montreal has a tasteful dark wood / grey walls interior decor, almost chic for a table top grilling restaurant, but that is standard for a Gyu-Kaku, and superb friendly service.

I ordered the Harami miso skirt steak as well as the Bistro hanger steak. Both are miso-marinated and will be crowd pleasers. I also ordered the Kalbi short rib, which, for my taste, has always been less ‘festive’ than the Harami miso skirt steak/Bistro hanger steak, but that is a matter of personal taste (lots of people love it) and again, Gyu-Kaku is offering one of great quality.

Was everything perfect? NO! The chicken karaage was not in the league of Nozy‘s (I always keep the comparison “local”, meaning that I compare Japanese food items in Montreal to other Japanese food items in. Montreal) but it was fine, and I am not a fan of the spicy kalbi ramen. That said, a Yakiniku IS a Japanese Bbq restaurant, so if you are going there for ramen, then you may as well start the trend of going to the hospital to shop for clothes, attend a wedding expecting a birthday party, etc. A nonsense what I just wrote? You are right: it would be a NONSENSE to head to a Yakiniku for your fix of ramen.

But for what it is advertised for, the Japanese BBQ, this has the edge in town.

I hope Gyu-Kaku keeps its Yakiniku in Montreal to the serious Yakiniku level I found on the evening of my visit. Just ensure you know the difference between Japanese Vs Korean BBQ as to avoid inaccurate expectations and, consequently, inaccurate judgement, as well as grossly ignorant statements such as “why should I go to a restaurant to cook my own food”.

We had such a great experience here! We had the set meal for 4 people at 140$ and it was great! I was worried it wouldn't be enough food but was happily surprised at the variety and quality of all the dishes. Service was also great. The waiter took the time to explain each cut of meat, how long to cook it and patiently answered our questions.

Price was reasonable though a bit pricier than other bbq places. However, considering the quality of ingredients and service, I'd def return!

J'adore le concept de l'endroit de pouvoir cuire notre nourriture à notre rythme. Le choix et la qualité de la nourriture servie sont excellents. J'ai été à quelques reprises pour le lunch et pour le souper et je n'ai jamais été déçu.

I was waiting for my takeout order and was deeply disturbed by how the manager treated a driver. I remember the manager’s name was Bobby.

The driver was an elderly and the manager basically insulted him and yelled at him to wait outside. It was really cold outside but I understand and respect the careful covid measurements.

He gave me very creepy stare too.

What a rude manager.
