Très bon mais trop cher pour ce que c'est! Service super ambiance normal musique un peu forte.

First visit there and I really enjoy it. Everything was top. Food, service was awesome. Price was good, not too expensive.

Had the hanger steak. Truly mediocre steak. I mean hanger steak cut is already sort of meh. Medium rare was a little over cooked and quite chewy. Not much taste but that is a preference thing. There is some sort of seasoned cooked Cabbage on top. Fries were good though, thin cut and crispy though I saw photos from 5 months ago the fries were thicker cut so who knows what you'll get. Wish I tried the papardelle mushroom with pancetta instead.

It was one of our stops for dinner while visiting Montreal for a work trip and was definitely worth it. At the high top near the bar, the service was great and food with every bite. Only downside is they wouldn't let us make a reservation for more than four people so we had to split our group of 11 up into three different sections and couldn't all feast together.

Fabulous dinner at Holder which was recommended by Hotel Le St Sulpice. There were six of us and we all immensely enjoyed our selections. Highlights included the onion soup starter, the beef cheek, the lobster ravioli and a perfectly delightful creme brulée. The service was amazing. We dined early and as the restaurant filled up the staff did not miss a beat. From the moment we entered through to the time we departed, it was clear that the staff's focus was on a superior level of service.

Visited during the tail end of lunch service. The staff were very friendly. Just try to speak a little French it will make all the difference. Highly recommend the duck confit.

This place is great. The service is unmatched. The staff truly cares about your experience. They made us feel welcome.

The food is amazing, the desserts are unbelievable.

I have pretty high expectations with the restaurant which may also but why I’m not thoroughly impressed.

Service - There were too many customers and just not enough servers. The server was trying very hard but we didn’t get to order another drink because he was just too busy to tend all the customers.

The French onion soup is pretty good. Good gruyere cheese. However, the paella was disappointing probably because I was expecting more traditional paella. However, the pappardelle was pretty decent.

The ambience felt loud and crowded.

I can't say I was impressed with the food. It was good but not the best I've had.

We did not have a reservation (it was fully booked) although they were extremely accommodating giving us a few options to have dinner. Food was excellent. Highly recommend when you are in Montreal. Make a reservation a few days in advance!

I came for the foie gras and got super disappointed when the server said they ran out of it!

The rest was just delicious, had the octopus salad and the paella AND the chocolat fondant.

The room is a little too big and a little noisy to my taste but not a problem

This restaurant is with a nice cozy ambiance. Had a great meal including a tasteful beer and wine.

An appealing though generally pedestrian menu. Our reservation was at 8 p.m, by which time the fish special was no longer available.

At some point in the evening our waiter disappeared without warning, along with several other staff, and there was no longer anyone apparently in charge. Those who remained appeared accomplished at avoiding contact with the guests, and an evening that had gone quite well ground to a halt while we made efforts to get someone to bring a bill

The food was fantastic, great wine list and the vibe was on point! The service was slow.half the group was upset, the other half loved the food and experience so much that they said no problem. So.it is a 4/5. We had pasta - excellent; steak frites - excellent; salmon with mashed potatoes - excellent. You get the idea. The location is close to everything and easy to find, I absolutely would return!

I had a really great experience here! One of the few places in the old port that is reasonably priced especially for french food! The service was impeccable and the vibe was great. We ordered the beef tartare, mussels and the lobster ravioli. The beef tartare was perfectly seasoned although I wish we got another price of the bread cracker. The mussels and fries were yummy! The portion was quite large. The lobster ravioli had a good truffle flavour but overpowered the lobster filling. Overall really tasty. Our friend ordered the duck confit and thought it was a bit dry. Would definitely come again when looking for a French resto near the old port!

One of the best restaurants I've ever been to in my life! We didnt have a reservation so we went it opened at 5pm on a weeknight. It has a very elegant atmosphere. The mojitos were super minty and refreshing, would highly recommend! The mains were definitely the star of the show - beef cheeks, duck confit, mussels, and lobster ravioli were all incredible! Holder is a must-try tier restaurant if you are visiting Montreal!

The restaurant staff was friendly and the waitstaff moved fast to serve your meal. The food was overpriced for portion size. The hanger stake was no larger than a grilling sausage. The steak was ordered medium and came out nearly medium well. They only had two specials and both were ill conceived: Icelandic cod in a tomato sauce and the other was a braised rib. I will give you a hint: cod and tomato sauce wouldn’t sell in starving parts of the world. Try this instead: broiled cod butter and garlic sauce, potato of choice with house vegi. The green beans were very good. The Parm. Salad was fresh and very good too. Braised rib, don’t get me started. I was one of two in a suit and most women dressed like my wife wearing a better than average dress/frock. One woman wore a v-neck long sleeve, mini dress and looked stunning. 50% of the crowd wore tshirt and shorts, many wore golf/soft collar shirts.

Pretty jam packed in like sardines. Very hot and sticky. Hanger steak was nothing to write home about. Service was excellent!

Food was okay, although I was kind of expecting better due to the fact that this restaurant has a higher rating then other restaurants in this class. However, service was good and the restaurant has a nice surrounding. As for dessert, I did like the one with butterscotch. It didn't taste like a bag of sugar so I was pleased about that and it actually did taste nice.

Great restaurant, with good food. I had the fried Calamari and Salmon, everything was great, but my least favorite was the dessert it tasted Ike it was not fresh. Also, it was a packed restaurant, and the air conditioning was not working, so everyone was hot and uncomfortable. I'm guessing that was a one-off but overall, it was a great experience.

The Bottomline: excellent food and service! Order the lamb chops!

Food: so so good. We order the calamari to start, lamb chops and the flank with shallots as mains. For dessert we shared the creme brulee. Every dish was excellent and delicious. The only complaint we had was that the calamari was not separated and crumbled from being too crispy after being pulled apart; super forgiven though because it was so soft and well cooked inside.

Service: our server Jo was the best. She went above and beyond. Our glasses were never empty and she made sure to always checked up on us.

Cost: we paid approx $190 for two people with taxes and tip. I found the cost to be reasonable.

Many menu items were missing like French onion soup, foie gras, and bread that make one want to go to French restaurant, was disappointing.

Ordered the French onion soup to start it was delicious. I ordered the Halibut special which was served but was told my wife’s fish and chips was forgotten so being cooked quickly to be served soon. It was cold and she tried to cut it and couldn’t. It was raw. They did bring another order and offered an apology. Very nice and appreciated but should not have had to pay for a dinner that was late being served and then served again not cooked! Should have offered some compensation. Disappointing!

Love love love! Definitely recommend. This place is both beautiful and warm. The service was attentive, professional while still being kind.

Front and back of house are too notch. The food was cooked to perfection. You can tell that they pay attention to the quality of ingredients along with the integrity of preparation.

I literally can’t wait to come back again!

I honestly have never left a negative review before for any place but I think this one merits it. We came on Saturday for my fathers birthday. Food was good and the waiters were very friendly. My issue is with your bartender. My parents arrived 20 minutes early with another couple. There was no host to greet them so my dad suggested they go to the bar to get a drink. My father said hi to the bartender when the bartender said "the host will be with you shortly" and told them to go back to the entrance.
My dad started to explain that they were early for their reservation when he was immediately cut off and the bartender repeated "the host will be with you shortly" and pointed to the door.
I understand restaurants may have protocols but there's a way to speak to people and to not be rude and dismissive.
JUST because of that we will never be coming back here. I may suggest getting a new bartender, you're losing business.

Too many amazing restaurant and competition in Montréal. I could give Holder between a 3-4 stars. Just your average friends and family dinner hangout restaurant, equivalent to a Cactus/Milestone. Prices are a bit high for what you get, but overall is alright.

This must be a joke. The frisé salad had what tasted like 5-day old lardon that were hard and tasteless. The dressing had no flavour. We were served cold Bourguignonne with cold mashed potatoes. Dessert was somehow even more disappointing. Absolutely tasteless mi-cuit butterscotch and chocolate. For these prices this is absolutely inexcusable. Awful service and management on top of that.

Traditional French Onion Soup was on my husband's bucket list for our trip to Montreal. After reading many reviews, we decided to try the dish at Holder. The soup was full of onions and bread and had an ample amount of cheese topping it. The broth was good, and he enjoyed the dish, though it wasn't quite as rich as he was hoping for.

We also ordered the house pommes frittes. They were a little more done than we would have liked, but the flavorful mayonnaise that accompanied them made up for it.

The staff were friendly and helpful. The restaurant was beautiful, and the atmosphere created a great Montreal experience.

Excellent service. Toujours. Très bons plats. Belle sélection de vins a prix raisonnables. Et.les meilleures frites de Montréal?
