Junior Filipino

I decided to edit my review because I find a little bit harsh considering the owner was very nice and took time to have a little chat with me that night and also tried to request servings that match our needs. Also the cook was nice enough to re-cook the bistek we ordered because they did it medium rare without asking us anyway. The service was nice although we needed to ask several times for spoons and the plates given were not enough for us.
I just couldn't hide my disappointment at first because I was excited to eat Filipino food and with its name "Junior Filipino" I was really expecting to taste something really Filipino but again, there were tastes they added on these food that "to me" made it lose the Filipino authenticity of the food. There were also very few food options to choose from because they say these things are seasonal. No kare-kare, no Sinigang, also no halo-halo on winters (although other restaurants serve this even winter). We ordered lechon kawali, sisig, onglet, and a salad that tasted barbecue -wi (my husband liked this). Overall, the sisg was the most acceptable of the food we ordered, but still, I wasn't that much impressed about the food. The place is a bit cozy because of the lights but not so much because it's a bit small for our family of five. They didn't have bigger table for us. When you come to this place, people are nice just don't expect that the food would really taste like Filipino food and don't expect to see all the food you see on their page because there were just really few choices when we came and they say their food are seasonal.

Amazing service. This was a cool restaurant with a pretty good breakfast. I enjoyed my visit here I've only had Filipino breakfast one other time. So it's a rare cuisine worth checking out if you want a different breakfast. The staff and service was fantastic.

We have been to Junior's a few times, and love everything we try! Can't wait to come back and to try the new place, Jun Jun when it's open this winter!

Junior's is one of the few places that does late night coffee in Griffintown. We strolled in late at night on a Saturday evening for dessert. While there wasn't a written dessert menu, the server explained the desserts to us - cassava cake and key lime pie. The cassava cake was heaven. We ordered black coffee and cappuccino to go with our desserts. It was a great alternative to going to a bar late at night. Service was great and the atmosphere was very cozy, with soul and jazz music playing and twinkling fairy lights. Even though it was December in Montreal, it felt like being inside a fun beach shack on a tropical beach.

Calamari: Dough comes out crunchy, but doesn't stay crunchy long and falls off the squid easily. I don'r know what the saucenis but it was very good with the dish.

Spicy mango salad: the mango was crunchy, there was some tartness but it was pretty sweet. It was just enough spice. I personally prefer a mildly saltier mango salad, but overall it's still a good dish.

Lechon: this was disappointing for me in terms of crispiness. The pictures online show promising crispy pork skin, but that not what it was served at all. The pork meat however was very tender and well seasoned.

Filipino spaghetti: this dish is know to have a sweeter taste. However, it was so salty and thr sausages didn't help that. The only way to balance the salt out was to eat the spaghetti with the extra bland fried chicken. The breading of the chicken lacked crispyness.

Buto buto: pork ribs (8 ribs in total) marinated in a quite salty and mildly sweet sauce. Eating it alone is a bit much but eating it with the rice makes it absolutely perfect. The meat is super tender and falls of the bone, and although it looks burnt, this actually provides the right amount of char/smokey flavor.

Bisteak: hanger steak in too sweet marinade. The fact that it was cooked rare made it tender but it was stinky to eat for me. The chimichurri brought little to the dish, I mostly tasted the onions. Not bad tho.

I would come back for the buto buto and to try other dishes (particularly the pancit). Despite my comments, the food was good, it's just that I prefer savory over sweet. Honestly, for 6 dishes, divided between 4 people it was very very affordable. I highly recommend this place.

Went there for a friend’s birthday last night and I haven’t had such good service and food in so long. The biggest shout out to Ray (and the bartenders whose name we didn’t catch: () for making our night so much fun and memorable! Would recommend 100%

Not bad at all! Loved their sisig and lechon kawali. Also ordered lumpia as appetizer. Thanks to Jason, the one who took our orders. He was very nice!

I visited here with my girlfriend, she is from the Philippines, by the way. I’m from Eastern Europe, for me all this food is very, very heavy, but I was satisfied, the only thing is that the spices in the dishes are very similar, a little boring, but the expert opinion of my half is normal) The staff is very pleasant, unfortunately I didn’t get into the atmosphere, also I couldn't find a couple of very popular dishes that I wanted to try

Had a great time with my family, pork belly and milkfish were particularly fantastic!

Update: still love this place, been for brunch a few times, the chicken and waffles are tasty

Food was super salty. Server was nice so we just asked for extra lime to lessen the saltiness. Price for the food is expensive for the quality. We had pork sisig, calamari and ribs and all of it was super salty

If you are looking for a Filipino restaurants somewhere by Griffintown (Not far from the Downtown Montreal Area), I would highly recommend this place to you.
First of all, we didn't make a reservation, we were still given the choice between a table or the bar.
Drinks were refreshing & I've enjoyed the little bit of Coconut taste in it, it wasn't that sweet.
For the menu selection, I'll definitely be coming back for it, the sea food were fresh.

Rien de bien particulier, excessivement cher pour ce que c’est. Service vraiment pourrit, aucun professionnalisme, places inconfortables, personne ne te demande si tu veux boire quelques choses. Juste vu le serveur pour la facture

Nous sommes allé pour le brunch et nous avons adorés les plats! Ils proposaient un chismosa en cocktail qui était fantastique, aussi. Les prix sont très raisonnables.
Très bonne ambiance et super service aussi. On va y retourné

The food was AMAZING. I would go back here in a heart beat and recommend this place to anyone. We had the platter (which they said we should reserve in advance) and they were super accommodating to let us try most things on the menu. Can’t wait to go back!

Mannnn this place is crazy good and the service is just insane. Ray is the man. Delivering not only just amazing food but amazing entertainment all night long. Constantly keeping the fun going. You have to try this place. Food is authentic and the place is a vibe.

Parking was easy to find near the area and not much traffic going there.

Easily a 11/10 and will come back again
