La Banquise

From reading numerous reviews, this restaurant was recommended by various people. When we came here our experience was not as great as we had hoped it to be. Firstly be prepared to queue for up to an hour depending on how busy it is. The gravy for the poutine is vegetarian so this is a bonus for a lot of people.

We were given time to order our food as the menu was varied. We decided to try the classic poutine and we were disappointed by this, gravy was cold and the cheese curds didn’t melt, we also had to ask for more gravy to make the dish taste better.

We also ordered La Rachel but added hot peppers to enhance the taste and this certainly helped. This dish was great as the cheese curds had melted and there was enough gravy on the plate.

As soon as you are nearly finished they ask you about splitting the bill and bring the bill over straight away. Overall we didn’t have a great experience here and will not be coming back again. I’m sure there are much better poutine places in Montreal, however this is great for vegetarians.

This is my own opinion, and everyone's opinion is different. I personally found this poutine in particular extremely salty, and the fries tasted a little bit burnt. The people there are super friendly, that's why I added the other star.

La Banquise offers the best poutine in Montreal by a long shot. If it’s your first time there, go with La Panoramix, you won’t regret it. It’s a mixture of smoked meat and regular poutine, garnished by sour cream on top of it which creates a tasteful combination.

A staple in Montréal, I truly believe the secret is in their delicious gravy. You'll find yourself coming back, especially at night for a comforting meal with friends! Very accommodating & friendly staff. Surprisingly patient although it's most likely packed! Si je devais introduire de nouveaux visiteurs à essayer leur première poutine, ce serait ici! The décor makes you feel at home as well, which is a plus. If you like a quirky & artsy terasse, you'll enjoy this place.

Worth the wait. Worth the buy. Worth the food, if your a person that loves poutine, which I personally am a person who loves poutine, worth going to. There are different varieties of poutine I went with la scooby because I personally like meat. I ordered the food via phone and it was ready in 20 minutes. It's fast takeout service which was really good. It was crowded for dining. But overall great experience with first time eating poutine in Montreal/la banquise.

Glad there is a vegan version! It’s pretty good and is certainly filling (the small size is plenty). Styrofoam takeaway containers aren’t very eco-friendly.

I had the Montreal burger and scooby poutine this time and everything was fantastic.

You have to come here, everyone, even the locals recommend and go here. That tells you how good it is. Expect massive plates if you get the "regular" size

Fantastic poutine everytime, they have truly earned the title for "Best Poutine in Montreal, " maybe even all of Canada ;). I highly recommend a visit, they are open 24 hrs and staff are very friendly.

Absolutely worth the hype and 15 minute wait in a cold Sunday evening. Warm cosy and busy inside the poutines were large tasty and fresh. Loved every bit of it.

Generous portions of poutine, must go here at least once when visiting the city. Just get a regular, trust me.

The line at 8 pm was a bit too long but at least the food made up for it. Avoid peak hours at all cost.

Food portion is huge, especially if you go for the large size so keep that in mind. The poutine is great but not the best in town in my opinion. There is usually a long waiting time to sit down so if you visit during winter keep that in mind as well since you may have to wait in the line that stretches outside.

Arrived at a good timing, no need to lineup! A great variety of choice of poutine. The place is cozy, has great music in the background, staff is friendly. And of course, the 24 hours service around the clock, it's the best for night owl! Why only 4 stars? Because the poutine is a bit too salty for me.

I love their pulled pork poutines, La Royale to be exact. I also love their service, they are so busy and packed of customers, yet they are still able to give each clients excellent service.

If you are looking for a place to enjoy the real local "Putins" it is a nice and delicious place.it is a must if you come.

Very disappointing. I got a classic and the fries were burnt and there was barely any gravy added on top.

As a poutine connoisseur, the poutine they have here is great. The fries, cheese, and gravy was good but if you let it sit for too long the dish may get soggy. The dish is very filling so much so that the dish seens too big for the plate. Service was good and we didn't have to wait too long even when we came at lunch time.

The host was amazing, very energetic and very friendly. The whole atmosphere was just a vibe with music and friendly environment!
- I order the large Sud-Ouest which will set you back roughly $22 but the portion matched the price!
-Highly recommend either the Sud-Ouest or the Scooby which were there most popular orders!

Mauvais service a la clientielle. La caisiere qui etait a la caisse Mercredi 24 fevrier 2021 a 12pm est tellement impolie et mauvaise. Si elle continu comme sa, vous perderez vos clients.

Excellent rapport qualité prix. Nous avons pris une grande Poutine et n'avons pas été déçus par la quantité, tellement qu'elle nous a fait deux repas. Les portions sont très grandes, et les produits excellent. Je recommande les yeux fermés.

4 times just before 9am today with no answer. We decided to pass by the restaurant anyway to order in person thinking you were open, the door was locked and no business hours posted anywhere.

I’ve definitely had better tasting poutine before.
It was not worth the 1hour wait, but we had no choice but to go to this one because everything else was closed on New Year’s Day.
Our server was very inattentive. Sat down for a good 10 mins with no introduction or water, we had to ask if we could have some water. Barely any cheese and everything was just very soggy. Ordered sour cream but server did not give us any but charged us for it.
Not going back and won’t be recommending this place to anyone.

I Love this place. This is a great place to eat poutine in Montreal. I've been going to this place since I was in high school which mean for more than a decade ago. They have all kind of poutine with meat. I definitely recommend this place. Arrive early they always have a big line up there.

Got a regular sized classic for takeout and avoided the crazy long lineup. The cheese curds were fresh, fries soft with just the right amount of gravy, and the portion was perfect for sharing as a side or as a meal if you want to enjoy it all for yourself.

Food is reasonably priced, portions are generous, everything was delicious—the selection of types of poutine was good. Overall, I would recommend this restaurant to anyone looking to indulge.

If you like poutine this is the place. Don't waste time ordering the classic, be adventurous you won't be disappointed! On a 4 days visit I went to this place two times. All the servers were happy and attentive. Friday and Saturday nights are very busy so go during the day if you don't want to wait in the line.

Their vegan sauce is delicious and their vegan cheese is good enough. Top with double portion of sauteed onions and sauteed mushrooms. Caution - very addictive.

The best poutine you will ever have. Period. Chill, casual vibe too. Definitely a popular spot, the line was around the corner. But the fact that everyone was willing to wait in the cold speaks volumes about how good the food is.

Extreme varieties of some of the best Poutine in Montreal! This place is open 24 hours a day and the service is quite fast. There is takeout as well as dine-in options. Beware that the line to get in is going to be pretty long almost always. So go with friends or be high enough to forget that you are waiting in a long line.

It’s always a good time at La Banquise! I never regret coming here when I visit! The poutines are so creative! You could pick one at random and be satisfied! Be sure to grab a banquise beer or boreal blonde, it really compliments the comfort food!

Minus 1 star for the ventilation inside. There are major cold spots and major hot spots depending on where you sit. Also the smell from the open kitchen circulates throughout the entire restaurant so be forewarned that your clothes and hair will smell like poutine when you leave and will only be removed with washing. Otherwise, poutine and beers are delicious. A regular size poutine is enough to share between two people. However, I highly recommend getting 2 regular size poutines to share so you can have a variety and just take the leftovers to go (97% chance there will be leftovers). You will also most likely encounter a long line starting around 5: 30pm, so wintertime will be brutal. Wear hat, scarf, lined boots, gloves, thick jacket and pull up your fleece lined jacket hood. The wait is worth it.

This place has many choices of poutine. It's really cramped and crowded, but if you don't mind waiting in line for a few, it's 100% worth it.

Many choices. Great fries and sauce and decently priced. However, there can be long waiting times due the popularity of the place.

Been here twice and it's just the best poutine I've ever tried! La Festival (pictured) is my favorite one. The servers were fast, the food is mouthwatering and there's always a queue outside during mealtimes. Be prepared to queue, unless you're there early!

La Banquise c'est le restaurant plus popular pour trouver un très bon poutine! Il y a beaucoup d'option pour choisir. Aussi tous que travaille ici sont très amitié et heureuse, ils chant des chansons tout les temps, très drôle. J'aime beaucoup et je recomend!
