A great place to learn the history of Canada and Quebec. Highly recommend to join the guided tour if possible.

If you want to enter the citadel there is a fee but you are able to explore the outside for free. While we were here we actually saw the guards do their guard change over which is such a cool process to see, so formal and interesting. The citadel is very pretty and such an interesting place to visit if you haven’t been to one, then you must visit inside.

I visited the museum for the history of the fort itself. I was very disappointed. No detailed history of the fort. Not even any detailed books to purchase. The museum is a very small display of the history of WW1, WW2, and post WW2 history of the fort. With all the history surrounding Quebec City I'm shocked there isn't more about the fortifications. Most of the major fortifications in Quebec City were built by the British so maybe the French don't like to acknowledge or provide much for it's history?

We visited the Citadelle on July 9. Free parking is available in the Citadelle. You can only visit the Citadel with a guided tour. There is also an opportunity to visit the residence of the Governor General. On certain days the band of the 22nd Royal Regiment plays at 10am.
After or before the tour you can visit the museum of the 22nd Royal Regiment.

Un must.
