L'Entrecôte Saint-Jean

My first time having steak frites. I heard so many stories about steak frites im social media that I had to try it. The sauce was good with a nice piece of meat and crispy fries. However, the food didn’t wow me. Maybe I was expecting too much, for my first time. The waitress was very pleasant and nice and spoke very good English. *It gets crowded dinner, make reservations.

Cocktail Mai Tai très différent des recettes habituelles, mais excellent si on aime les cocktails sucrés. Il y a d'ailleurs de nombreuses bouteilles de spiritueux en décoration.
Service efficace.
En revanche le menu d'hôte a été assez décevant. La soupe en entrée était bonne mais l'entrecôte (le nom du restaurant!) n'était pas aussi bonne que ce que nous espérions. Même si la sauce était originale.
Les profiteroles étaient sèches (et froides) comme si l'assiette sortait d'un frigo.

You can find much better food in the area. Had the Steak Frittes, which is their signature dish. The "secret sauce" was very nice, fries were well cooked. Steak was a little rarer than ordered, didn't bother me. But it was incredibly tough, especially for a rib eye. To the point of being unpleasant to eat, so I really can't recommend that you do.

I also ordered a mojito, which I like to order when I'm out because I can never seem to extract much mint flavour at home. Seems they have the same problem. It tasted like diluted rum, not even much lime flavor.

The food and the interior design were good but the service was not
Our waiter was a not patient enough to help us choose
And another person who looked to be internal manager was rude
I was looking for bathroom and he told me to sit down before even asking first what I was looking for
Worst of all, he was pressing us to quiet our toddler and talked rudely to us and our baby when our little baby was not in a good mood

He was rude and inconsiderate

I won't come back there

Je mon coté j'ai pris plat entrecôte (hote)
La soupe était bonne
Une salde de laitue avec quelque noix (pas vraiment une salade)
En ce qui concerne l'entrecôte j'étais pas satisfaite: le morceau de viande n'était pas de bonne qualité, j'ai demandé bien cuit mais je l'ai reçu saignant! La sauce n'était pas bonne non plus
Mais une grande quantité de frites en accompagnement.
Dans le menu y a avait le choix entre deux dessert (chose n'était pas proposé par la serveuse), reçu un dessert surgelés (je parle des choux)
En tout cas vaut pas son prix.
Personnellement, je ne retourne pas

Deux entrecôtes avaient une partie de tirailles: c'est pourtant leur spécialité. Le vin a été chargé à 10% de plus que le prix annoncé sur le site web sans préavis. Le service est excellent.

Vous avez une équipe extraordinaire:) et la nourriture WoW:). Cependant pour les gens qui n’aiment pas la Moutarde ou allergique sa serais plaisant d’avoir une sauce différente pour accompagner le steak:). Mais cetais tout dememe très délicieux et quoi dire du dessert j’en aurrais manger 10:)

We had lunch at the restaurant. The value for money is great! You get a lot of food and a beverage. But the quality of the steak was okay and the sauce was an odd pairing with the steak. The flavour of the sauce didn’t go well with the steak.

Friendly staff and great service. They are rightfully famous for their entrecote. Is really very tasty and we liked it so much we went twice. Highly reccomended!

Unforgettable steak, food and ambience was great and our waiter who was one of the best servers that we have met during our stay in quebec city.
If you are into steaks this place should not be missed along with there special sauce.

Pour un entrecote, c'est vraiment la place. Cuisson et service parfait. Petit secret bien gardé: demander moitié frites, moitié harricot français cuit dans le beurre. Un vrai régal.

Malheureusement, ce midi j’ai choisi le lunch express steak frites et n’ai pas aimé…le steak était dur comme une semelle de botte, j’ai coupé de fines tranches pour essayer de le manger mas, après 3 ou 4 lamelles…j’étais « tannée » de couper …trop dur…mais, j’ai mangé mes frites…

Good food overall and a great location. However, my steak was a disappointment. You would expect that a restaurant that has the French word for steak in its name would know how to make a good steak, but mine was bland, tasteless and rather dry despite being medium done. The rest of the food in my party was quite good though, so overall I would recommend this place except for their signature dish.

This is the worst restaurant I have ever been too. I I ordered the salmon which had a lot of bones and chop pink salmon.
When I complain ed the waiter and manager was very rude.

One of the finest dining experiences ever had! Went to Quebec City with my significant other for a short vacation, and spent our last night at L'Entrecôte Saint-Jean. We were the first ones there at 4pm and spent the next 2 hours indulging in everything this fine restaurant has to offer. We started our dinner with a glass of sweet white wine from Australia (Yalumbia, on the seasonal drinks menu). We then shared a 9-ounce steak between the two of us, which also comes with soup of the day (creamy cauliflower soup), green salad with walnuts, profiteroles with chocolate, matchstick fries cooked in peanut oil, and coffee or tea. To top off our final meal of the trip, we added a creme brulee to our profiteroles. The ambience was superb; the decor was fitting of the atmosphere. Our waitress provided excellent service. Thank you L'Entrecôte Saint-Jean for giving us such an memorable end to the trip. Will definitely be back for more next time we're in town. P. S. Stroll to their bathrooms downstairs is like walking in an art gallery so definitely use their toilettes!

Ordered the soup of the day (cream of caramelized onion) and the 7oz steak.

Soup was quite amazing, the sweetness of the caramelized onion and the creaminess of the soup was heavenly. 8/10

Steak probably spent too long under the broiler. It’s dried out when it shouldn’t be, slightly crumbly, and charred bitter in places. The fineness is a perfect medium-rare just like I asked for though. If the sauce used alcohol, mine probably needed a bit more time cooking off because the taste of booze was strong. 5/10

Il y avait longtemps que j'avais été à cet endroit, rendu vraiment ordinaire service mal endroit et surtout qualité de la bouffe vraiment ordinaire.

Ambiance is also great. Jean-Francois is extremely pleasant and friendly. Would recommend this place for anyone.

Simple mais efficace. Une assiette généreuse, des frites délicieuses une et viande parfaite en texture comme en cuissons. Et le tout pour 25$ par personne, j'ai deja hâte de la prochaine fois.

Best restaurant we visited while in Quebec City. Great value for the food; the table d’hôte included a soup, a salad, the entrecôte, and a dessert. They were all prepared to perfection. The entrecôte with the sauce was delicious, tender, and well seasoned. The service was friendly, and the ambiance was pleasant. Definitely one of the better restaurants in Québec, would highly recommend.

If you go to Québec city and want to eat in the best steak house of Québec, with their famous mustard sauce, go there, you will love it.

We are visiting from Toronto, and tonight was our last night in beautiful Quebec city. We've tried different restaurants and they were all great. Tonight our dining experience was at a different level. We booked at L'entrecote Saint Jean. The French nostalgie songs were playing as we walked in. The friendly staff, the ambience so warm, and welcoming.
Food arrived, our steaks cooked to perfection. The service was just great. Our host was amazing! It was the 'creme de la creme' of all the places we went to.
I will revisit next time I'm in Quebec City. By far the best We've had!

Le services était excellent. Très belle ambiance. Nous étions a l'intérieur sur le bord de grande fenêtre avec vu sur la rue St-Jean Très belle terrasse.

Ma première fois a ce restaurant et non la dernière.

Peut être l'exception, mais malgré les efforts de notre serveur le repas était trop ordinaire et nos entrecôtes étaient tout simplement coriaces au point de les retournées.le canard en remplacement étaient sans éclats et 45 minutes trop tard.

La pandémie a le dos trop large dans ce cas ci. Je ne crois pas que le boeuf ait décidé de produire des pièce coriaces, le maître du grille de les faire cuires, le saucier de les napper et le chef de les laisser sortir en salle.

Une place qui peut être un option de 2ieme ou 3ieme choix, mais Québec à plus à offrir.

Great service and the quality of the food is excellent, rarely had such a nice meat and the service speaks English and even Spanish and everyone is extremely friendly, great start of our experience in Quebec City

Every time we go to Quebec City a must is to have dinner at l’entre côté St-Jean. Yesterday the steak was tasteless even with the sauce and the meet was very tough to chew. I told the waiter that if I made a steak like this at home it would go in the trash. As compensation we received a half once of watered down spirit. A small discount would have been more appropriate. Next visit to Quebec dinner may be in another restaurant.

La nourriture était bonne, par contre le service très ordinaire. Le serveur a présumé que je ne voulais plus rien pcq je n'ai pas pris la table d'hôtes. Il servait les tables autour mais pas la nôtre. Il a pris son temps avant de venir desservir. Il m'a remis l'appareil pour payer très cavalière ment. Bref, je n'ai pas apprécié le service. Je n'y retournerai pas.

Ma dernière visite remontait à plus de 20 ans. Je m'attendais à vivre une expérience gastronomique renouvelée et actuelle. Au final, c'est plus un voyage dans le temps qu'autre chose. La qualité est cependant au rendez-vous. La carte des vins, s'avère, à mon goût, plutôt commune. Pour le prix, à mon avis, il existe plus intéressant à proximité, sinon un peu plus cher mais aussi plus actuel. Si vous cherchez un endroit calme, le vendredi, vous pourriez être déçu.

Pour le dîner, super accueil, chaleureux et convivial. Le service était classe et attentionné, sans être importunant, ce qui est très apprécié pour une rencontre d'affaires. Cet établissement offre un excellent rapport qualité/prix. Une institution qui mérite sa réputation et sa popularité.

Le morceau de viande était impeccable et la cuisson tout simplement parfaite comme on l'avait demandé. Restaurant touristique oui mais qui vaut le détour!

C'est la première fois que j'y allais et j'ai bien aimé l'ambiance. Le steak-frites était vraiment bon. Nous avons eu un très bon service.
