Les YMCA du Québec - Cartierville

I have been a member here for more than one year, everything is good so far. I love their group classes.
Today I met a mom who is very rude in the parking lot. I was sitting in my car, and she helped her kid open the door on the passenger side. However, her door hit my rearview mirror, and she saw it but she didn’t move her door away from my mirror. I was like and haven’t said anything yet, but she started yelling to me said omg it’s nothing. She doesn’t have any manner in front of her kid. It’s terrible.

Overall good gym -

Ive been going to gyms consistently for about 4 years now. I started going here about 5 months ago because i moved close. I have tried many gyms in the past and here is my review when compared to competition. I also preface by saying i have only used the gym and havent tried other activities yet.

HIGH POINTS:
- vastness and quality of the installations.
The gym is large and the equipment is plenty. They also care about equipment availability. The cable machine was always busy and they ended up buying another one.

- attendance
The gym is never swarmed. Even in peak hours you normally get machine availability

- staff
Staff is friendly when you go see them annd leave you alone when you want. It looks like people like working there and it shows.

- they care
When machines break they get fixed quickly

- culture & people
The people there are respectful and nice! Had some nice interactions with gymgoers without any trouble.

LOW POINTS:
- Gym etiquette
I was really surprised by this. There seems to be this unwritten where people leave bottles / towels to reserve a machine. This happens even during peak hours when benches and equipment are highly contested. Not only this but people sometimes clog machines forever. I once did a 45 minutes workout without being able to use one of the 5 squat racks because the same 5 people were clogging them.

Always a low point for me

- Unsupervised minors
They allow Kids/minors into the gym. Not a low point per se but something feels wrong when you see kids misusing / messing with machines

- opening hours
Closing at 6 pm on weekends

Overall i would recommend as the highpoints vastly outweigh the low points. I am looking forward to discovering the rest of the facility!

Hoopers, yall better stay away from this gym, the management does not respect the schedule they put in their website.total waste of time.hoopers again, stay away from this gym.

Meilleur centre sportif, les personnels à l'accueil sont tellement aidants et polis. Mes enfants adorent leur cours de natation, Benjamin qui est responsable de la piscine est très gentil, professionnel et comprenait les besoins spéciaux de mon enfant.

Je suis allé au YMCA Cartierville et j'ai été totalement impressionné par les installations! Le centre est très propre, et la plupart des équipements sont assez récents. Le personnel est vraiment gentil, et on se sent comme à la maison. Je recommande vivement le YMCA Cartierville si tu cherches un centre sportif où tu peux faire un peu de tout dans une ambiance bienveillante et accueillante.

Very Poor experience at the pool last month. I went for their infamous free swim as my friend recommended. I was visiting from Ukraine and it was my first time in pool in Montreal. The little guy at the office downstairs was extremely rude with the people around and lifeguards. I was talking to a lovely girl in a chair and she told me he is always in bad mood and thinks owns the place. I got also turned back to the upstairs because I had no bathing cap. But nowhere it Announces we need bathing cap. I don’t recommend to anyone going to the pool there, the staff was so rude and not welcoming at all. The pool was dirty and changing room was filthy. You should do a cleaning from your facilities but also your staff and remove thoose bacterias beacause it will push people away, I am back to Ukraine with a bad taste on my mouth from YMCA. For your own safety don’t wast your time and go the city or Sophie bar at pool next door, my experience was better. So sad for you YMCA Pool and for you little guy, your shorts are too short for you and you should fix attitude. Hope you read this YMCA person in charge.

The weightlifting room is adequate in size, but too quiet for my taste. I also felt like the air circulation wasn't all that great, but it might've simply been an off day for me. I also find it inconvenient that it closes at night as I like late-night gym sessions. It is however much cheaper than many other gyms, and has multiple facilities included.

The gym area is nice but the down side is the price. If you only plan on using the gym equipments and maybe the basketball court once in a while you still have to pay the full monthly fee that it costs to maintain a pool and hire lifeguards. It is way too expensive for someone who wants to work out for 2 hours and leave. Also to add the gym closes way too early I mean 10pm? ! Come on! At least close at 11 or midnight! Very unpractical in so many ways.

What's a typical open hour Basketball look like? Are there people playing half court, full court, or is it mostly empty? Or is it full of kids throwing the ball around?

A staff name Susan is super friendly and helpful. The gym is clean and spacious. There are also lot of different group sports and classes. I recommend:)

Very disappointed YMCA decided to enact a swim cap policy because "ymca pool filters aren't designed for hair. ". This was according to a YMCA employee on site. Honestly, this sounds like a serious design flaw (or BS) as countless indoor public, hotel, and other public pools run fine without enforcing swim caps. Also, YMCA pools in other provinces don't require this. Is it possible that swim caps also prevent COVID transmission in Québec? Who knows? Also, I hope that life guard has enough time to put a swim cap on before the next person is drowning -gosh forbid he clogs the pool filters while saving a life OR someone drowns while he's putting one on -Seriously, he's got some long hair, it could decommission the pool for weeks! Edit: Added a picture of 3 people not wearing caps.

Personnel accueillant, locaux propres et spacieux. Multiple salles, coach toujours disponible. Les activités en groupe (en salle ou à la piscine) sont diverses, bien encadrées et les horaires de programmation sont scrupuleusement respectées. On ne s'y ennuie pas du tout.

No parking space. Waited for over 30 mins for an open parking space and I missed my class.

This Facility is great. Very friendly staff, pool is very clean and hot showers are very appreciated. I recommend it to others all the time. Keep it up:)
