Simple, unassuming, honest. I simply love the "steames all-dressed" here. Over 110+ yrs young, it's one of the best hot dogs to enjoy in the city. Remember to bring cash. No cards!

Went there for Poutine and Pogo after reading good things about the place online. The food was ok, nothing exceptional and quite expensive for the portion size. The staff however were very unfriendly, they were sitting behind the counter on their phone, looking bothered by us. When we ordered, the guy was mumbling something I could not understand and looked like he wanted to be anywhere else but there at work. No thank you or anything at the cash, no goodbye when we walked out, they didn't even look at us cause they were busy on their phone. I'm sure there are much better places for a quick Poutine with staff that appreciate their customers. Will not go back.

I finally had hotdogs at the historic Montreal Pool Room and they are as good as advertised. I had the “toasted” trio which includes 2 hotdogs, french fries, and a drink for about $13. Not cheap but not expensive either. The hotdogs were excellent, as good as any in town. But the fries were mediocre. They aren’t skinny fries like McDonald’s. It’s located on St Laurent just below Sainte Cath erine across from Cleopatra.

First time coming here the other day and I really enjoyed it.

Tried the poutine, the fries, 7 /10, were some simple classic crispy ish fluffy ish inside fries, sauce 8.5/10, was flavourful nice poutine gravy, cheese 5.5/10 was curd cheese but had no squeakyness. Portion for price 5/10 kinda overpriced. I would rate 3.5/stars but no option.

C'était correct mais un peu cher pour la qualité des produits. Un restaurant institution qui mériterait plus de soins. Je fréquente ce restaurant depuis 45 ans.

This was the worst take out order I've had since the pandemic. Do not order the poutine or double cheeseburger. The poutine was incredibly soggy and the burger was dry.

It's a casual place renowned for its 105-year-old traditional poutine and hot dogs, which allowed my family to start our wonderful first day in Montreal. The staff were on the go, but very kind. Satisfied with the fast service.

2 ¼ Stars: My first encounter with Poutine and. I hope every person I meet from now on tells me how "no, this was just bad Poutine. Real Poutine is so much better. " because this was so unremarkable.

I'll hold judgement on the dish as a whole until a second try, but the Coen-Brothers-movie-esque "Montreal Pool Room" didn’t do the dish any favors.

First off, rude staff. They do not even look at you or say « hello » when you are inside.
When it is paying time, staff wake up and say « thank you very much » but of course they do not deserve any tips. Then, you leave saying « bye » but nobody answer.
What a bad service for an average meals.

As many others have stated you don't come here because of the great day decor. Excellent food and enjoyable experience. A true classic. Great hotdogs and amazing poutine!

Even if the hot dogs and fries weren't very good the ambiance was 1969 loved it however the dogs and the fries were great

Pretty good. I have had gravy that is slightly better but overall I would eat again for sure. We had 3 large poutine and 2 hot dogs all dressed. Everyone liked it. The restaurant followed all of our requests for uber eats.

Final thoughts: It doesn't get much more classic than this. This is the kind of place that Lafleur, Belle Province and Valentine's are cut from. Quintessential Montreal fast food. It's good, it's inexpensive, it'll fill you up.

You can't go wrong with the Pool Room.

Ordered a 10$ large poutine that had like 10 fries in it and they can't follow simple instructions for delivery (cheese on the side)

I haven't been here since before the pandemic and was disappointed because the coleslaw wasn't as good as it used to be, and the buns and weiner didn't seem properly steamed. The fries are still great! I hope this is temporary and that they return to the great hot dogs that had since I was a kid!

The food is not as good as I expected and the service is really bad. It is absolutely not the level of a 100 year old restaurant. By the way, maybe the service is bad only because I am not a native and can’t speak French

Best place for good ol fashioned Montreal all dressed hot dogs! Highly recommended their "toaste" ones as they got that nice grill flavor to em! Hands down best casse croute in town!

Been going there with my dad since I'm a kid. If something in Montreal has to be synonymous to OG "Casse- Croute, It has to be Montréal Pool Room.

A Montreal institution! I think it is the second oldest continuously operating restaurant in Montreal. Good steamies, good burgers, open until 4 am. What is not to like?

I think this place is frankly overrated. Haven’t been in awhile.

The hotdogs are very mediocre and the cheese curds in the poutine weren’t squeaky. Their Michigan sauce was good though.

La Belle Province nearby on the corner of Ste-Cath/St-Laurent is better.

Used to be a must eat every time we were in the neighbourhood! We went about 5 weeks ago and before entering, we watched the cook to see if it looked safe. The cook is behind some plexiglass but is free to sneeze and cough over everything because he doesn’t wear a mask! We left!

Best burger joint in old Montreal, fry the burg right infront of you, great price, local restaurant, been around since 1912, despite not speaking French the staff was unbelievably friendly and inclusive, if anyone finds themselves in Montreal you need to come here!

Poutine ok. Staff was rude. Refused to give us water despite us spending 50$ in poutine. Yelled at us when we asked for the correct amount of forks.

Good late night dogs and grease food. Guys are friendly, treat them good because they have to put up with so much shenanigans.

I USED to love this place. I USED to drive from Ottawa just to go to the Montreal Pool Room for a couple of dogs. The last several times, I have been so disappointed. The service is horrendous, it's unclean, the cooks and cashiers are rude with all customers; it's like they would rather you stay home. Well, it worked, I've had enough of being a loyal customer; I'm NEVER going there again! This from a guy who used to tell everyone they HAD to go there. Not anymore! I have only heard good things about la Poutine Banquise on Rachel St. That place has just gained a new customer.

The most iconic place in Montréal for me personally. I have been going here for 30+ years and will continue to. The food is quick, delicious, and continuously brings memories. Plus it's so close to the Metropolis!

So times change! They moved across the street from the location that they were at. The Hot Dogs are still good. Its the lower main. Cleaned up from its past slum area. Montreal Pool Room is an institution. Opened in 1912.

La bouffe est parfaite, en son genre. J'y vais très souvent, avec mon filleul, tout comme mon père, avant moi et mon grand-père, avant lui.
Malheureusement, le personnel en place depuis les années '80, à - comme on dit par chez-nous - une "face-de-beu". Ils auraient grand avantage à être plus souriant, agréables et accueillant.

Went in to this spot with some friends for poutine. The place definitely feels like it's got a nice history to it; plenty of the photos up on the wall from decades ago still had the same decorations that are up today. Which is nice, but it didn't really appeal to me. We all agreed that the poutine reminded us of a sort of hockey/curling rink poutine: great, probably housemade gravy, squeaky curds and greasy oil-sogged fries. One of the best poutines I have had for sure.

J'aime bien leurs frites, sans sauce, avec un peu de sel. Vraiment bonnes. Le tout avec un bon steamé, c'est quelque chose. FYi la poutine n'est pas leur spécialité.
