The place inside is magnificent, but you can see that it is business. The entrance have to be pay by card no cash, everything inside have to be pay. If you want to turn on a candle you have to pay $2-3 if you want to get a little manual from the place is another $5 and they also have a card system on the area to make those payments.
Spectacular, constant 25 minute jaw drop during the Aura light show and a must when visiting beautiful Montreal. This really is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see such beautiful architecture and history come to life. We were so lucky to be able to witness this and only found out about the actual Aura show when visiting the Montreal tourist info.
It's beautiful. My friend and I attended mass here which was all in French.
My only complaint was the lady greeting us at the door kept asking my friend and I questions about our visit. We were coming to attend mass and she questioned us about our intentions for visiting and went over the rules with us. This would not have been a problem except she only did this with my friend and I. I am unsure if this was due to the fact we were much younger than most of the people there or something else.
The Bascilica was under construction and most parts were inaccessible during our visit. Only visit the place after booking your tour online 2 weeks in advance else not worth the time.
Rather pricey ($14) for being able to walk around the church interior with no guided tour, along with many other people. One hour allowed. There was no printed map or information provided, so we just wandered. There is no senior discount, but a combination ticket with the Aura show gives $4 off each ticket, so an $8 discount, for a total of $35. / Aura show: The 6 pm show (Dec 2-2021) began late, at 6: 13, and ended at 6: 38. It was quite wonderful, with music (organ, choir, solo voice, orchestra) and lights emphasizing the architectural details of the church’s interior. I liked the snow scenes best.
Neat cathedral with an ornate interior. You need tickets in advance which can be purchased from their website. The website isn’t easy to use from a phone.
From the outside, it may appear they are not currently opened for visits, however there are specific time slots that visitors can purchase tickets online for the self guided tour! Beware of the times as its only available 2-3 times per day, and has limited availability (up to 250 guests per slot) to maintain capacity and traffic flow.
Currently there are also the AURA performance which from the photos look amazing! Unfortunately it wasn't available for the day I went.
Once inside, you can visit the amazing church at your own pace, when the time is about up, an announcement will be made to let you know time is almost up. The church is also actively opened for masses!
Currently the souvenir shop is not open, and there's no tentative date as of yet!
Be sure to plan ahead and get your tickets on their official website before you go for a hassle free visit!
My review has nothing to do with the architecture and everything to do with being turned away from worshiping.
I attempted to show up for afternoon adoration at 12: 15 on a Monday after reading on their website that they had religious services everyday. I arrived at the church only to be turned away as I was not a parishioner.
When I asked the lady guarding the door why, she said that there were not a lot of places or times for local parishioners to come in and worship and so this was only reserved for them.
On the one hand I understand tourists coming in and not respecting the sanctity of the service by just coming in to take pictures and leave. However, worshiping isn’t a tourist experience in my opinion, it’s part of partaking in the global community that is the church.
I was very conflicted to say the least.
I would recommend that at least the church mentions the parishioners only adoration services, on their online platform so people from out of town that want to worship know what to expect.
Notre-Dame Basilica of Montreal is one of the must see Church in downtown Montreal
The Basilica is so beautiful from inside One cannot stop adoring its beauty and clicking many snaps.
A masterpiece itself well preserved place, You have to donate $5 to enter which is worth for a cause Silent, Vibrant, holy place for prayer
When you are in downtown just explore the place. Around' Basilica also there are couple of places to visit. Keep full day for the walk trip in downtown It's worth
Notre-Dame Basilica is simply wonderful, both outside and inside. It's impossible to go to Montreal and not visit it. The visit is paid, but it's worth it. The altar is definitely the hightlight of the visit, it's breathtaking, no image and no words can express the sensation.
Woooooow!
One of the biggest attractions of Montreal, oldest Church in the city. You will love this place if you visit here feels like you are in Europe or France, all streets and nearby buildings are vintage, Batman filmed Building is just infront of this Church, you will see all old French culture here in this place. Recommended for all year to visit here.
One of the most amazing churches in the world! A must visit if you are in Montreal. The entry ticket is $8 (whether you take the guided or non guided tour). Guided tours in English usually occur at a gap of one hour, but it may vary. The architecture inside is impeccable and breathtaking. The guided tour was actually quite informative and i came to know a lot about the history of Montreal and the Basilica.
It’s a beautiful church. Unfortunately our tour bus couldn’t park right at the door of the church so, my husband with a broken leg couldn’t walk up there. It’s a beautiful church with the beautiful wood crafting. It’s worth to pay a visit and you feel the faith in the house of god.
Very beautiful church, it is well kept and if you are or aren't into architecture and art are you will surely have a Feild day/ or develop a love for it. It cost $8/person to get in and you are allowed to take photos (flash photo as well), walk around the entire building expect for upstairs it was blocked off at the time. Also a organist was playing and sounded very beautiful. Definitely a must visit if you are ever close by it is a sight to seee
Attended Mass on Sunday 8,9: 30 and 11am. The 11 is the high Mass with choir. The altar, life-size crucifix and four paintings from the earlier smaller church from the 1700s are also in this basilica.
I've been to many cathedrals but this has been one of the most memorable. The free introduction/ tour is a MUST, especially the one by Mary. If the queue is too long during the morning/ lunch, come back in late aftn and it'll be shorter.
Really enjoyed our visit there. Had a great tour organized by Guidatour. Beautiful Church. Great visit! Enjoyed Aura lightshow performance last year there also!
Merci i hope going some day to make a video clip or i could take some of montreal with your aura espectacular art temple in contemporaneus urban walking on directions to you in boulevard by a band of rockers
Wow. Attended the light show which at C$25 is not cheap but quite an amazing spectacle with light and sound that feels likes it's gonna blow the roof off. A truly magnificent hour spoiled only by the long queue to get in. Book on the day or ahead as it gets really busy. The normal entrance here is C$8 but the light show is a bookable evening show.
The Notre-Dame Basilica is a must see for any first time visitor. Look for the beautiful organs. It is located centrally right off the port area which is the most popular tourist and local residents go for amusements, parks and wonderful restaurants.
The Basilique is impressive! The fees for entry is 8$ for adult, only cash. It was quite crowdy there (we waited in line for about 30mins) and if you want you can take a free guided tour of 20mins.
The cathedral is very beautiful. But the ticket agent dose not. We have two kids, but the second kid is six years old, so he is free. We only needed one child ticket. The ticket office staff asked, "Don’t you have two kids? " And my wife replied, "He is six years old. " Then she impolitely scattered tickets over the window with a wry smile. In this beautiful place, there is such a sad soul.
