In this place you can enjoy delicious food, good drinks and it integrates with the outside environment, in the surroundings you can listen to traveling musicians who give that extra touch to the experience of being John Michaels Pub, the service is fantastic, the food is very Well, it's relatively coarse and enjoying a beer is great, in the evening it's a very familiar place.
$12 bottle of beer was outrageous, the nachos were meh at best, with the smallest serving of salsa between two people, and although the burger was good, the side salad was seasoned with just olive oil.
Didn't expect much, but did expect better than this.
While the drinks are decent and the beer cold my order for a smoked sandwich arrived 48 minutes after i placed the order, but i was pleasantly surprised that the establishment somehow knew i was dieting and brought me a sandwich that was so small it is considered a finger sandwich anywhere else albeit at $24.overall, two stars since i'm feeling generous this yule tide season
The poutine here is NOT good. The fries are frozen, there wasn't enough gravy and it was also subpar. The waitress forgot our extra gravy and when I asked about it, instead of admitting it, she said she was still waiting. She was nice though.
Overpriced and slow service. I ordered a smoked meat poutine and the smoke meat was the same ones you buy at the grocery store, vacuum packed in a ball. They couldn't even be bothered to cut it up like a cheap canteen. At least the drinks were good.
The food we had was good. Simple cheeseburger and the poutine with bacon. Decent bar food menu. The ambience was nice on the patio. A nearby street performer played his guitar. Definitely touristy. The bartender had the best vibe. Couldn't complain.
Portion for poutine if you upgrade it in a meal is very small, Don't upgrade a meal to poutine as it is not very good and no way they can justify $8 extra for only average quality poutine.
Smokes meat was ok but not anything special.
My kids liked the swiss burger and it was a good size.
The location is great because of the frequent live entertainment nearby.
Had lunch here on a sunday. Although it was so packed we had to wait for the kitchen to catch bwfore being seated, it was a really nice experience. Hostess was pleasant. The server was prompt. The food came out quickly and was surprisingly good. We had the pork poutine and a fire burger. Both were really tasty. We had beer and wine that was teasonably priced. I expected a tourist trap - but it was not. Very much recommend.
Trendy location in Montreal’s old port. Fun atmosphere. Live music outside on the patio. Typical bar food. Drinks were pricey compared to other places in the area.
I went here with my children for an evening meal. Service was good, until we waited over an hour and a quarter for our meals. The waitress did apologise, however when the meals came, the fries were very greasy. I did say this. I had only an apology, apparently no manager available to speak to. There must be someone in charge.no bill reduction either. This is such a touristy place that maybe they can get away with it. However from my experience please avoid this place, over priced for greasy fried food.
Add on- I will try to call from hotel this morning, I am from overseas. Thank you for responding
Tried fish and chips, sweet potatoe fries and some cocktails. Food portions are huge! Price is also reasonable. I wish they had options for smaller portions too. Staff is really friendly. They speak both English and French. Recommend the place
Amazing food and service. We went for dinner (4 of us). We were seated in patio as indoors was at full capacity. It was a bit cold but heaters were running at full capacity and they helped. Ordered nachos, poutine as appetizers and then Michael's Chicken, firehouse burger, chicken strip as entrees. Everything was delicious and portions were good. Our server was very friendly and none of us are French speakers; will return.
Excellent poutine in a city famous for it. Charming sights and local musicians make for great people watching. We had a group of 8 on a relaxed labour day and had excellent service.
Excellent service. Bonne ambiance!
Love the food. We had Philly cheese steak sandwich and pulled chicken taco and it was great. Big portions, good quality and nice service. We were visiting from Toronto where food standards are pretty high and I give them 5 stars.
One of the worst resto experience in our life. Club sandwich was so so, but fries were so bad. We couldn't even finish it. Asked twice for the bill, and it took them 10min to bring it.
Food was good, poor service though. It took forever to get our food and they were unable to make a Pina coloda or a strawberry daiquiri.even though both are on the menu. Our waiter seemed to stand around a lot.
Great location for people watching and live music playing on street. Food was pretty standard pubfare with a Montreal flair. Fast but friendly service. Reasonable prices
A great place for poutine and other tasty food. Service was excellent each time we visited. In the summer the patio is a great spot to take in the action in Old Montreal while enjoying a drink or dinner.
The food we ordered was great! Delicious! French onion soup, fish n chips, and the chicken wings were all good and so is the beer! Fun! We watched the Superbowl with great friends:) oh yea our server was also awesome. Thanks
Yea you know it is the typical tourist trap:) But on a cold afternoon in the Old Port Neighborhood I saw the outside Black board hand written menu ——> $1 Oysters + tax I decided to give it a shot.
Place was empty I was the only customer when entered & sat down, within minutes other customers came in so I must have brought them luck:)
Service Was friendly, ton's of smiled, & pronto. The bisque was pretty tasty exactly what the doctor ordered on a cold day. Cappuccino was also good. I left the best for last - I ordered 12 oysters which were served with lemons and H-Reddish.
Overall not bad, expensive yes that must be expected for its location, Very nice pub, clean bathroom, & welcoming staff.
Ordered 2 ceaser salads, the dressing tasted like old mayo. Found 2 hairs in my salad and the waitress (who was very nice, it wasn't her fault) said the kitchen staff said it could have been anyone's hair, that she couldn't comp the meal but I could have a free beer?
Perhaps, my expectation for good food was too high for a "pub". While service was courteous and good, the food (supposedly true Canadian dish) turned out to be average to poor (too greasy). Gave 3 stars as its location afforded good view of the locals and tourists enjoying the street/area.
A decent restaurant. I felt the prices weren't bit high for the quality of food. The dishes were tasty though. The smoked meat on poutine was fantastic, (although overpriced).
Came to Montreal with my fiancée for our anniversary and have had a fantastic time exploring and walking through the town. As we walked up from the water ready to have some drinks and a bite of lunch, we stopped at this pub that seemed to have a great atmosphere and ambiance. Drinks were great, however the food was the worst food we’ve had in years. Well done burger (we asked for medium rare but they only make it one way) and the John Michael’s salad with chicken on it that may have expired in 1997. Don’t waste your stomach space on this.
Lovely staff but overall it felt like a tourist trap; it's right on the square. We were tired, hot and hungry so we decided to give it a shot. The smoked meat poutine was disappointing; a bowl of fries covered in unappealing gravy, only a few cheese curds, and what seemed to be slices of roast beef with some smoke flavor thrown on. Don't order the bourbon lemonade. At least the beer was cold.
Fantastic place located in beautiful old Montreal near the port. You can see live local street shows from the patio which creates a nice atmosphere. Had the burger for a meal and it was delicious. Place was really busy but food still came by pretty fast. There are many nice little restaurants near here as well but having eaten here, i would definitely recommend it if you are looking for good food!
