Restaurant Au Petit Extra

Fantastic French food, very pleasant atmosphere, and super pleasant service! The cocktails, dessert, and coffee were also very good. One confusing thing was that a Negroni cocktail was $9, but a long island iced tea was $19. Either way, everything was great!

Le service est très bon, et la nourriture excellente, mais il faisait bcp trop chaud, je transpirait, même en petite chemise, et j’avais juste hâte de finir le repas et de quitter ce four…

Après deux expériences, nous sommes toujours aussi emballés par la cuisine et le service de Eve. Le jour ou ce resto perdra les services de cette maîtresse d’hôtel, il perdra son âme. Dépêchez vous à aller vivre L’EXPÉRIENCE. 26/08/2023.

Petit repas sur le pousse en fin de service avec ma femme. C’était une belle surprise guidée par le fidèle routard.
Rognon pour madame et saumon pour monsieur! Un sans faute au nouveau chef qui semble être arrivé hier et bien sûr à l’équipe.
Belle note aussi pour le choix des vins français à la carte …

EDIT: Making a quick edit to reply to the owners: It's quite unfortunate that you decided to lie about this. If it makes you happy to think that this is a fake review, good for you. This being said, the events described in my review happened, whether you admit it or not.
We were told by your staff that this was an ongoing issue, that you had mice even in your kitchen, that this issue was caused by construction on Ontario street and that the owners refused to do anything about it. Considering all of this, it is quite bold of you to simply lie about it, rather than address the issue, support your staff and make sure that your customers are well taken care of.
PS Feel free to look at my review history to see if I have a habit of making fake negative reviews. You'll see that I have nothing to gain from this. Do the right thing.

Original review: My spouse and their friend went to eat there on July 13,2023, and shortly after beginning to eat, mice appeared in the restaurant. They told us that they couldn't do anything about it because the owners refused to do something about it, even if they had mice in the kitchen as well.
It is quite unfortunate for a restaurant that's been around and respected for this long.

Fantastic menu with amazing ingredients and cooking. Service and atmosphere were excellent. Each dish has a wine pairing in the menu from appetizer to dessert, which makes it easy for people not familiar with wine.

Super service! Belle expérience, on avait un spectacle à côté et notre serveur s'est assuré qu'on arrive à l'heure qu'on voulait. Bonne bouffe, ambiance sympa!

Un retour dans ce restaurant qui nous a ravi mon conjoint et moi. Les plats nous ont convenu. Ils étaient bons et jolis! Le vin blanc était bien frais. Le service excellent! L'ambiance calme (c'était un vendredi midi!), climatisée, sous une musique amérique latine. Le décor est stylé et soigné. On n'attendra pas aussi longtemps pour y retourner.

Due to the construction on the road, The driver who was stationed 4 steps away on Papineau right by the light was screamed at when he walked in to consult with the waiter about the clients preference should they want to avoid a 5 minute wait time. The Waiter never consulted with the clients and they therefore complained that they would have preferred to walk over and that it was audacious of the waiter to assume for them. Regardless of the rest, such unprofessional and rude waiters who can't treat other service members with respect is enough to avoid this restaurant as a whole.

Avant, je leur donnait un 5 étoiles pour la bouffe mais c'est devenu un 4. ça fait plus de trente que je fréquente ce resto, je pense que la Covid et l'inflation l'a rattrapé. Le service n'a pas flanché lui!

Excellent restaurant Français. La cuisine est vraiment bonne, tout en restant dans des prix raisonnables. Le service est impeccable.

Décevant en commençant par le menu, manque de variété et trop simpliste. Pas de légume dans les assiettes, que de la salade, chèvre chaud froid et pain détrempé, pas de sauce ou presque pas avec la bavette et pas de goût. Tarte au citron sec. Je ne retournerai plus. C’était bien meilleur il y a 4 ans et avant, lord de mes visites précédente

Bon mais sans plus. La viande demandée medium est arrivée rouge, j'ai mangé quand même mais déception. Le service a été courtois mais long, considérant le peu de monde sur place, ce midi là 4 tables prises, nous inclu.

Unfortunately, this restaurant was right by some major construction, so at dinner time, traffic was at near standstill. Part of my family went the last few blocks on foot. Parking was on the street.

The restaurant was spacious and service was friendly. We are English speakers and they made us feel at home. We appreciated the casual feel of the place, as we are on vacation and not dressed up.

First time trying beef tartare, as recommended by other reviews and it was quite good. My son had the beef cheek stew, which was tender and had a nice sauce. This was the best main course of the bunch, IMO. Others in my party had the streak, duck leg confit, and roast chicken. These were just okay. There was already a salad that came with the steak, would have been nice to know when some of us ordered a starter salad. The fries were sad looking. The duck was meh, on a huge bed of salad. Garlic potatoes were good but only a few pieces. Roast chicken was okay, I’ve had better roasted eggplants. Only one vegetarian main course option (a risotto) which had nuts, so my son couldn’t order it. Crème brûlée was decent for dessert.

I had high expectations given some of the other reviews. I just returned from a trip to the French Rivera and south of France a couple months ago, and had a decent amount of homey French food, and this does not compare.

Magnifique petit resto sur Ontario. La nourriture est délicieuse: petite mention spéciale pour la crème brûlée en dessert, qui était incroyable. De plus, le service est impeccable. Je recommande définitivement cet endroit.

Bel endroit, très pratique puisque que collé a la salle de spectacle, le service est offert en fonction de cette petite containte. Beau menu, parcontre certains plats sont peu généreux par rapport à d'autres.

Ouvert en 1987 à son endroit actuel rue Ontario, Au Petit Extra est un bistro français dans le même style que l'Express ou encore le Café Cherrier. Ils ont des plats français classiques comme le confit de canard (28$), rognons de veau (24$) ou encore des entrées de boudin (12$) ou tartare de bœuf (14$). Ma conjointe et moi avons adorés notre soirée, bons plats, bonne ambiance, bon vin! Facture finale avec taxes/pourboire: 155,39$
