Ah, le Restaurant Gandhi dans le Vieux-Montréal, laisse-moi te dire, cet endroit a une place spéciale dans mon cœur. J'y vais depuis qu'ils ont ouvert leurs portes et ce soir, encore une fois, c'était une visite délicieuse. J'ai vu Faruk, le proprio, je l'ai salué comme un vieux pote, parce que bon, c'est le cas!

On a eu une bonne discussion, à se remémorer le bon vieux temps. Puis, ma commande est arrivée: du poulet au beurre, du bœuf sagwala et deux naans à l'ail. Chaque fois que j'essaie quelque chose de nouveau, je suis époustouflé. Ce poulet, tendre à souhait, et cette sauce, oh là là, comme rien que j'ai jamais goûté.

D'habitude, j'y vais pour des réunions de famille, mais parfois, c'est juste pour me faire plaisir. J'aimerais tellement pouvoir faire plus pour Faruk. J'ai lu les critiques, mais laisse-moi te dire, après toutes ces années à le connaître, il est authentique. Le même bonhomme que celui d'il y a 22 ans, pas changé d'un poil.

WOW. Une expérience surréaliste. Je n'aime pas les caris doux et je sais que le poulet au beurre chez Gandhi est très doux, donc j'ai commandé un poulet au beurre épicé suivi d'un riz basmati, et je peux dire avec fierté que le chef a parfaitement exécuté le plat. C'était très savoureux et pas une seule bouchée n'était fatigante. Un des meilleurs restaurants indiens. BRAVO À GANDHI, SINCÈREMENT.

I am writing to express my disappointment with the quality of service I received during my visit to your restaurant on [23-June-2023]. I was extremely disappointed with the experience and feel that it detracted from the overall enjoyment of my evening.

Specifically, I found the service to be slow, disorganized, and lacking in attention to detail. For example, my order was incorrect and had to be sent back multiple times, which significantly delayed our meal. Additionally, our server seemed disinterested and did not provide the level of customer service we expect from a restaurant of your caliber.

Ate at Ghandi for the first time 5 years ago and have returned every time we are back in Montreal. The service is excellent, the atmosphere welcoming and classy and the food is always top notch. Absolutely worth the trip to Old Montreal

A must visit place for all food lovers. The owner is very professional and humble and attends you so well. I loved the ambiance as well as the food. I tried karahi chicken on server’s recommendation. Amazing taste!

Best Indian food I’ve ever tasted! The staff is super welcoming, attentive and nice! Everytime I go to Montreal I stop to eat at restaurant Gandhi the owner is super humble and hard working I love it there. The food is really authentic and flavourful!

The waiter service was very discriminating and very arrogant. They demand 15% tip at any cost… these are Bangladeshis or Pakistanis for sure… not Indians

A lively place with a lot of variety in Indian food. Staff is nice. Waiting time can be more, so have some extra time. Food is delicious.

S’il était possible de mettre 10 étoiles, j’en aurais mis. Le serveur Tahaa nous a très bien servi en nous conseillant les meilleurs plats et en nous accommodant l’emplacement. La nourriture est excellente. Je vais définitivement y retourner pour essayer le reste du menu.

C’était immangeable, le poulet au beurre était à vomir (sauce grasse hyper sucré, poulet trop cuit super sec) 30$ le tout avec le riz. Je n’ai rien mangé c’est la première fois que ça m’arrive. Mal au ventre toute la soirée même avec le peu que j’ai mangé

I went with my friend. We ate chicken korai, lamb malai madras & tandoori chicken as well as Nan bread. All so good and taste like back home. Service was first class, specially hot towel after finish dinner that was amazing!

Je suis allée manger avec mes amies. Elles ont voulu m’initier à la cuisine indienne. Je n’ai pas du tout eu l’impression de voyager pour ce qui est des saveurs… Mon plat (poulet tandoori) n’était pas mauvais, mais ne sortait pas non plus de l’ordinaire. J’ai été déçue. Une des personnes avec qui j’étais a apprécié son assiette mais sans plus, et l’autre a détesté complètement son poulet au beurre, toutes deux étant des fans de cette cuisine!

Le service était très long, très, très long. Mais les serveurs étaient tous très joviaux et gentils!

Nous avons eu droit à une accommodation raisonnable pour notre expérience.

Went there few times, food is extremely delicious. The environment, interior of the restaurant are really great plus the people are welcoming and well mannered, gives high level customer service. Highly recommended if anyone wants to try delicious food.

A FUIR! Repas immangeable, pour des quantités ridicules, des prix exorbitants, et un personnel qui n'est même pas sympa!
Aucun rapport qualité-prix.
Le poulet au beurre ne comprend pas de riz, il faut donc le commander à part et payer un supplément, et la sauce n'était pas bonne du tout. Je ne recommande vraiment pas ce restaurant si vous voulez bien manger!

If your taste bud loves authentic Indian food, then please don't visit this place. The taste is too bland and the price is too high for the quality and quantity of the food. Just a pure disappointment.

Tres chère pour ce que c’est. Service excellent, des employés adorables. Cependant j’ai du attendre 20 minutes juste pour recevoir le menu des boissons pour ensuite re attendre 15 minutes POUR UNE BOISSONS.

Nous étions 4, nous avons commandé 3 poulets au beurre, dont 2 pimentés. Le poulet au beurre régulier était infâme, la sauce était grasse et sans saveur et le poulet très sec. Lorsqu’on l’a indiqué au chef de salle, celui-ci nous a mal répondu en disant que c’était comme ça que ça se faisait (étant adepte de cuisine indienne, je peux vous assurer que ce n’était pas un poulet au beurre) et il n’a même pas voulu nous écouter quand on lui a fait la critique…
Par ailleurs, les naans étaient excellents, et les poulets au beurre pimentés étaient plutôt savoureux.
Beaucoup d’attente (+ d’une heure pour avoir les plats et + de 30 min pour avoir la facture) et le service laisse à désirer.
Je recommande moyennement ce restaurant. C’est dommage

Quelle belle trouvaille dans le Vieux-Port de Montréal. J’ai adoré le plat Cari Malai Madras recommandé par notre serveur Amin. Excellent service, nous reviendrons!

Honestly the food was so bad is one of the worst Indian restaurants I have ever been. None of all the plates was good not even the rice or the bread. I don't recommend it at all

Bland food, small portions for the price and the service was extremely slow and disappointing. Felt like a tourist trap if I'm being honest.

I get it was a Friday night but we felt ignored: it took half an hour to get a glass of water, and the waiter must've spent a grand total of 1 minute on our table. I'm still waiting on my napkin.

Twice we inquired about our food, and twice we were gaslit with the waiter stating our food wasn't ready because we'd arrived after the rest of our party. At this point we'd been waiting over an hour and hadn't even gotten the bread basket.

When the food finally did arrive there was no apology or acknowledgment of the wait. They also made mistakes on our order. Really a sub-par service.

Also music was way too loud. It's not pleasant when you have to read off other people's lips.

I don’t normally take the time to write reviews, but this spot is a real gem in the neighbourhood. Absolutely delicious, authentic dishes and such kind service. A gentleman, who I assume is the owner, was helping all evening, and clearly takes great pride in what he does. I highly recommend this spot if you want a delicious meal and down-to-earth environment. 10/10 would return.

Good Indian Food. But servers were too busy running around and actually crashed a hot curry on an older man's back who was sitting on a chair. That was very sad. They needs to have experienced servers for a restaurant like this. Lack the management standard compare to other St. Paul establishments.

Worst, I went today and they don’t have any food as per Indian food, that is just boiling cheese and then adding to all paneer items, plus chef is zero, worst and very poor Indian food, they don’t know what Indian food is

Attention! Arnaque! Voleur! Je suis venue dîner avec une amie venant de France en Octobre dernier. C’elle elle qui a payé avec sa carte de crédit! Elle m’informe aujourd’hui que le restaurant a effectué 5 retraits! Je n’émets pas d’avis habituellement mais je ne peux pas m’empêcher de le faire aujourd’hui pour éviter a d’autres touristes de tomber dans le piège! Quelle honte! Elle a dû faire opposition sur sa carte bancaire! A éviter absolument!

I ordered this when I was super hungry and it did not disappoint. It was delicious and I ate my whole plate of malai madras. The negative is that the portion is a bit small. Someone who only gets the dish and a side of naan will probably be disappointed. So it really needs an extra side of rice to be enough food. The naan was better than average but not the best I’ve ever had. The actual dish was so good.

Everything happens for a reason.truly believe in that. So friday evening and I was struggling to find a place for dinner in Montreal at Saint Paul Rue. Wanted to go a restaurant called LOV which is popular for its vegetarian dishes. However, due to long waiting I started exploring other restaurant and stumbled upon “Gandhi”.

Now this place had the best service, staff and most importantly the food (mild and yummy). All of their service suffice their pricing.

Délicieux! Coup de coeur pour leur pain Naan généreux et gracieux. Belles capacités d'adaptation aux personnes qui ne tolèrent pas certaines épices mais qui désirent tout de même se régaler des saveurs indiennes:)

Super belle découverte. En visite à Mtl, nous avons choisi ce resto pour le souper. Quel bon choix! Sitôt assis, le menu arrive à notre table en même temps que les papadum et les sauces. Le service est super; pas de serveur désigné à notre table mais une « armée » de serveurs qui s’occupent effectivement de l’ensemble des clients sans être dérangeants et sans qu’on ai l’impression d’être poussés (nous sommes restés à notre table de 19h à 21h50). Les plats arrivent avec un timing parfait (pas trop d’attente et pas de bousculade) et tout ce que nous avons mangé était savoureux (nous avons pris le menu « Taj Mahal »: agneau très tendre et poulet au beurre à se rouler par terre). Nous y retournerons sans hésitation. Un clin d’œil à Arbab pour sa jovialité et ses répliques humoristiques qui nous ont bien fait rire.

Located right in the heart of downtown Montreal its in a prime spot for tourists. Resturant Gandhi did not disappoint where we ordered a Lamb Tikka and a Chicken Briyani each tasting great! The waiter gave me a side of spicy chilli to add to my own portion since my girlfriend doesn't eat that spicy food. Recommend checking this place out as everything was super flavourful and tasty!

Food was awful and hardly any spices were added. We also ordered mix vegetable sabji and what they gave us was just big chunks of vegetable saute in water and salt. We already told them to fine chopped vegetables while place order.

We ordered this in for delivery from UberEats and it was very good. We were trying to find gluten free Indian food in the city, which is apparently not easy to do. I got the Sagwala with chicken and my husband got the chicken vindaloo and garlic naan (not gluten free). I really liked my dish and the rice was cooked well and the portions were quite large, which is good since it was pretty expensive.

The only thing that I didn't like is that they do NOT have gluten free items marked on the menu, so I had to add a note asking them to please ensure that each dish was gluten free (except the naan, of course). They marked every container that was gluten free, but it would nice if they marked the menu with this information.

A very fine dine restaurant. Ambiance was very appealing. Location was amazing as it was in the heart of downtown. The food was very tasty. The reason for 4 star is because the quantity of curry was less if you order one for two people.

Went there with my husband and friends on a friday night, the staff was very friendly but we were disappointed with the food! The vegetable samosas were empty! Chicken tikka masalla was not flavorful at all same goes to the butter chicken! I wont go back again. This restaurant is not authentic its just one of those touristic restaurants at the old port

A Gandhi restaurant that serves Beef! This is unbelievable. Gandhi was from undivided India, and in India beef is just not to be had. But this restaurant is actually serving beef. I don't think the owners have any connection with India, otherwise they wouldn't serve beef.

Amazing experience as an Indian myself I feel they have perfectly maintained our taste and spicy level to both us and locals there. It feels Like everyone are welcome there. Amazing service. Shahi paneer is a must try here. Wonderful service and loved the food. The ambiance and people were really good. I highly recommend this place.

Nice food and very good service. And this is one of the few restaurants that can make the food really spicy for you, if you ask them to. So don't order the max spice level unless you can really handle it.

Never ever eat from this place. Ordered on Skip the Dishes. The lamb and chicken were both not properly cooked. Worst Indian food ever I have eaten. Don't waste you money at this place.

Overall ok with quality of food! However it was crowded and restaurant didn’t had enough workers to manage it and has some wrong food being delivered which the manager later agreed it was his mistake and replaced with correct dish.

Overall a pleasurable experience. The food and ambiance were quite good. However, the slow service was disappointing. I would recommend this restaurant if you are not in a rush.

Incredible place and amazing food. We’ve ordered takeout a few times now during COVID and the food is not only incredible, the packaging for takeout is the best I’ve seen in the industry. Can’t wait to visit when indoor dining is open!

Really great customer service. Best tandoori chicken ever and were from Vancouver where there are 100s and 100s of Indian restaurants.
Freshly baked light and fluffy Naan, perfectly cooked and tender butter chicken, and excellent light palate cleansing desert. Highly recommend

A friend ordered take out yesterday at lunch. The Tandoori chicken was edible but dull, the Lamb tikka masala was an abomination. It tasted as though someone had taken some pre-cooked lamb and dropped it in a jar of Patak's paste and heated it slightly.a truly nasty concoction. Each of us struggled not take away the leftovers. The mushroom Biryani lacked much in the quantity of mushrooms, Naan doesn't do well on takeout, this seemed an exceptionally flaccid example, thick and doughy. This meal seems to have been prepared by someone who has no feeling for food.

Les serveurs sont très poli et donne un sourire. On se sent bien, la musique traditionnelle est génial. Je vous le recommande.

Overpriced for starters considering portion size.
Paneer in Saag paneer (Chef recommended) was rather stiff with the gravy not being that great.
Roti was uncooked. Overall a rather sad lunch.

I liked my experience but I won’t be going again. The staff is really attentive. The food is also good, but since I live near parc extension (if you’re a tourist, it’s where a lot of our Indian community lives), I’ve had better for less than half the price. But if you’re in the mood for Indian, budget is not an issue and you’re in the old port, this is one of your options.

I am usually not a big fan of indian food. My date absolutely wanted to go. Therefore qe decided to stop by here. The food was succulent and the service that we received by our server abdullah was simply amazing. Would definitely come back. Thank you so much!

Great Indian cuisine. Service and food is outstanding. I would definitely give this one a try. You won't be disappointed if you're into really, well prepared Indian food. I had one of the cury lamb dishes, and ordered homemade steaming hot Nan bread. It was amazing!

The service was GREAT. The Food was Great. The restaurant it self was clean and does not feel crowded just a nice place to have an enjoyable dinner.

Great overall experience. Definitely my favorite indian restaurant in Montréal. It's on the more expensive side, you can obviously find cheaper indian food in town but if you want to spoil yourself, come here!

Like seriously? Food was ridiculous, worst food i ever tried in my life, its not the real taste of indian food, and so expensive according the food quality. I won’t recommand anybody to try indian food at this place.

Épouvantable! Une assiette take out poulet au beurre une personne avec pain nam 30$! Sauce trop liquide, trop sucrée avec 1 pain nam. On m'a donné un pain! Hello la générosité!

While my friends and I stopped by this place on a rainy, cold night for just tea, I would definitely come back to this place if I were in Montreal. The owner was such a kind guy and tried his best to take care of our orders. We were going to take chai to go but he didn't have to go cups so he asked us if he could put our chai in styrofoam bowls instead and proceeded to make cutouts in them so we could sip from them. While we waited, he brought us papad to eat and had some friendly discussions with us. This was such excellent service and the chai was flavorful and so on point. I definitely recommend this place

Bonne place, semble souvent remplie et du coup un peu bruyant mais bon service et rapide. L’ensemble des plats étaient bons.
Les prix sont un peu supérieurs à la moyenne je trouve, sûrement dû à la localisation (vieux port)

This is one of the few indian restaurants here in Montreal. We ordered chicken tikka in starter which was good in taste, but the quantity was very less (4 peices), in main course we had ordered naan and paneer makhni, naan was kind of baked bread, which is enough for 1 person. Gulab jamun as desert- I never expected gulab jamun to be like this, served in syrup which was very liquid-watery. The overall dish prices here are very high as per the quantity they serve.

Visited both Taj and Gandhi during our Montreal visit. Gandhi had superior food and won our hearts. The biryani and poori-shrimp are our absolute favorites!
