I paid $750 for a night in your hotel. What a joke! We got to the hotel and paid for a 3rd person. The bed wasnt even made when we checked in. They handed us the bed sheets and we made the "bed" ourselves. The room was far from being clean. I have photos of that as well but will spare you. The fact that we came to drop off the keys to main reception and waited 30 mins is not acceptable. I went into every room you had in the reception area. One of your guests that were waiting even took their bag out of the "secured" spot as noone was there watching it. After 30 mins a man showed up stating he was parking cars. A hotel that charges $750 a night should have someone at main recption ALWAYS and someone else parking cars. This falls on management. None else. The next morning we spoke to Brian and Nicolas. Nicolas stated he will speak to the guy that was wroking. This has nothing to do with him. It has to do with management. And not staffing properly. Then we get home only to see the damage on our bumper. We didnt touch our car all weekend. This was damage caused by your hotel and not acceptable.
Back and forth between you and RBC as this stay was purchased using points. No one will refund is a thing. A complete joke. Do not stay at this hotel. They don’t care about their clients either does RBC

I specifically booked this hotel because I saw that they had a suite with two FULL beds - they also had other rooms available with SOFA beds- turns out they mean the same thing - the "full"bed was a sofa bed, which normally wouldn't be a problem but I booked it with a specific need in mind.
The lobby bar was not opened which was super inconvenient. At one point there was a group of 15 guests or more including my party, who wanted to have a drink at around 10: 30 or 11 PM and they would not stay opened and were not to friendly about it either.

Review
This is NOT a 4 star hotel. Period.

The exterior and entrance is beautiful, modern decor, chill ambiance and staff at the door to greet you. Very nice and knowledgeable staff in front and at the bar. That’s where the 4 star experience ends.

We booked and paid for a King room online, upon arrival we were told all they had were Queen or double. Went with the Queen.

The elevators and super dark as are the hallways, likely part of the aesthetic goal but doubling as a way to hide the stained carpets and walls throughout the common areas beyond the lobby. The elevator walls are covered in random stains.

The room is not 4 stars, not by any means on any level of luxury standard. It’s giving Howard Johnson with wood floors. The surfaces weren’t even wiped down see pics. There was some random substance by the phone, see pics. The sheets are meh. The bedding slipped off the mattress several times. Big ick factor for me. No blackout curtains either. There is a panel on the ceiling that looks like it was opened and not closed back properly so it’s not flush.

The bathroom looks like an apartment that has been DIY renovated with mismatched tiling, which has discolouration and random markings. Is it damage? Is it a surface that hasn’t been wiped? Who knows. The toilet paper holder is actually filthy. The sink drain has pink mold on the drain. There are bathrobes but they are stiff and old, meaning they’ve been washed so many times they have detergent build up. The bathroom towels are also mismatched. There is no fan in the bathroom. No dish for the bar hand soap. The tee diverter to turn the shower head on would not fully go up. Does this sound like a 4 star situation? I certainly don’t think so.

No one came by the room even though the housekeeping cart was out and on our floor from am to pm. A vacuum cleaner was left in the middle of the hall all day as well. On check out day, housekeeping knocked and woke me up at 9: 30am. Do you guys not have a checkout list? Honestly this moment really confirmed the complete lack of luxury and quality in the overall service of the hotel.

Are these things issues tolerable? Maybe. But they are certainly not 4 star quality. 3 star absolutely.

We booked off a hotel website. So do they give priority to rooms booked directly through them? Because this place is certainly not worth the $800 we paid for two nights but that’s what we ended up paying even through the website.

Many questions. Final thought, would never choose to book here again.

Response to the team: you couldn’t find the bleach stains on the carpet on the 6th floor? Ok. Good thing I’ve included pictures for you right.

The fact that you have the nerve to tell me “We have inspected the floors and have not seen signs of this being re-produced” says a lot.

The way your management team responds to these kinds of reviews is very odd to me. It’s rude and another example of how it’s just not 4 star service.

Great location…that’s it. Paid $500 for a suite which was smaller than a Marriott executive king room. Booked 7 days and checked out after 2 and went to the W.

Bathrooms small are not ADA friendly…neither is the entrance…no ramp or lift to access the hotel for disabled guests and no valet in sight to help guests with luggage.

Breakfast is simple and precooked. Lattes $8 extra. For $50 a complete ripoff.

The hotel WiFi is slow and cannot connect to VPNs. Called the front desk which was completely no help.

It’s an old building with tired rooms that wants to be so much more, but is not. I’m shocked this is a Marriott property as it does not live up to Marriott standards.

This "luxury" hotel has not much to offer other than its location. Rooms are specious, but lack in comfort. Same thing for the bathroom. Rooms feature large, high tubs that may be challenging for certain people to get into. Shower heads are troublesome as they are places too low to enjoy washing your hair without having to pull a Matrix move back – just to get your hair wet. Overall, this boutique hotel does not deserve its luxury price point, as other Marriott brands offer better value and comfort.

Very helpful staff, convivial and professional. Food was very good, cocktails are great, loved the bar.
Good size room with a nice bathroom and very comfy bed. Room light design is amazing.
Beautiful building located in Old Montreal area, near the best venues for our cultural, gastronomy interests and fun activities.
Sure to be back when in Montreal!

Enjoyed my one night stay at the hotel. Very boutique decor and feel. Front desk attendant Hortense was accommodating and knowledgeable. Room was clean, with a Nespresso. Complimentary water bottles were available (essential!). Would stay again given the chance.

What an amazing hotel, luxurious, classic but with a modern touch and located on the old town.

I stayed in one of the suites, the living room area was spacious and the windows were huge, lot of sunlight.

I strongly recommend to stay there.

Amazing stay. Très bon service. Hotel au décor unique. One of a kind hotel in the heart of Montréal.

Service avec Hortense à la réception a été exemplaire. Well served at the front desk by Hortense, who was very welcoming.

I recommend, je recommande:)

I loved staying at Hotel Saint-Paul. The ambiance is cozy and chic. The design of the Hotel made me feel very comfortable. The bar is in the lobby but well seperated in which makes you feel like you are totally in a different place! The location is simply perfect, walking distance from amazing restaurants. The receptionist had beautiful smiles and were so kind. Overall I strongly recommend staying at this Hotel!

This is the PERFECT hotel to stay in for a getaway the in heart of Old Montreal. It is a gorgeous building and it only gets more breathtaking when you walk in (the warmest welcoming lobby with a fireplace and classy furniture).

The front desk staff is extremely efficient, pleasant and helpful, and made the experience of staying at St Paul Hotel even more enjoyable by going above and beyond to make our stay comfortable. From the start the check-in was done extremely fast and they were more than happy to give us a list of recommendations to explore the city.

The rooms were exceptional! Spotless, high-ceiling and with canopy beds. It really made our trip the best experience and would 100% recommend if you are looking to stay in Montreal.
22 January 2023 6:45
Very disappointing at every turn. The front desk didn’t pick up the phone once, the valet was nowhere to be found on two occasions and the room service from Pol was completely incorrect (Like shockingly incorrect) - it was just a mess, and I think must be different mgmt since the last time we visited. Will never stay there again. The staff was not overtly rude but was not pleasant or polite and seemed busy with their cell phones in the back most often.

Good things about the hotel: great bar and bartenders; nicely appointed, euro-vibe, friendly staff. Improvement suggestions: clean the rooms better (detritus in corners) ; flies in the dining area.

St Paul hotel is a beautiful hotel located in old Montreal. The rooms are a great size and the beds are comfortable.

There are a ton of great shops and restaurants, even a spa, just a few minutes walk away from the hotel. The metro is fairly close and connects you with everything else you'll want to do while in Montreal!

Overall, nice hotel, great location, very friendly and professional front desk staff. The room—we had what they call a queen suite—was nice, roomy, and comfortable. A king bed would've been better, but this property doesn't appear to offer them. The room was not as clean as it should've been. There had obviously been a lack of attention to vacuuming/sweeping/mopping as there was debris, including a toe nail clipping, close to the baseboards. The breakfast, which was not complimentary and ran another $30 per person, was essentially just a continental buffet with the single prepared option of scrambled eggs. We arrived 30 minutes prior to the end of breakfast and the coffee was not hot, and all the bread products had obviously been sitting out since breakfast started as they were dried out and stale. Wising to end on a positive note, the bar is excellent and the bartenders, especially Jasmin, were terrific. Friendly, knowledgeable, and attentive.

The beauty of historic Montreal cannot be captured in just a few pictures. This city is a perpetual item in my bucket list and I intend to return every chance I get.
04 February 2022 10:00
Really nice hotel! They’re at a good location within old Montreal and is easily accessible to everywhere. We had breakfast delivered every morning and our nespresso refilled.

Only thing that could’ve been better was parking inside the building and faster/bigger elevators.
10 January 2022 17:48
Pros:
Gréât location
Clean rooms

Cons:
The parking uncovered/unsupervised space in the opposite side of the street! While we paid extra, the breakfast was very cheap with no cheese/jam/butter and no warm beverage.
They expected us to use the room’s coffee pods even if you already had it last night.
The whole breakfast was a piece of crossant, yogurt and a juice bottle box!
Finally, they double charged us by mistake. It took so while to fix it.

Quiet and clean. Front desk was nice and courteous. Could not for the life of me figure out how to turn off the fan/ac. Was pretty cold all night long.
08 November 2021 16:36
We really wanted to enjoy our stay, unfortunately quite a few things made that impossible. The hotel parking was an over filled double parked nightmare, so we had to drive around trying to find a spot close by that would accept to let us park over night.this cost us over 50$. The corridor to our room was littered with bags that other guests had left with garbage in them at the side of their doors.the bathroom floor had stains on the ceramic, the decorative blanket they put at the foot of the bed had stains on it as well.the rooms are not quiet at all.we could hear everything. The other guests would slam their doors and talk loudly in the hall ways.the toiletries that are given were used by the guests before us as the bottles were not full and the sicker on the front looked like it had been in the shower.there would have been a nice view however the windows were so filthy that it was impossible to see much. For a basic room with a king size bed that is priced at over 300$ for a one night stay on a Friday night we were expecting a different kind of experience.
01 November 2021 13:52
Awesome Hotel in A great location. Only complaint is that we had to ask for breakfast to be sent up each morning instead of having it come regularly, but staff was very accommodating at all times.
27 October 2021 23:24
Very disappointed!

they CANCELED my reservation before my arrival!
This is the worst thing can happen for a family trip! To arrive after 7 hours drive and find ur reservation is canceled without any prior NOTICE!

They also put EXTRA CHARGE for cleaning
But the DONT clean!
if you are suspending your service for any reason, the fees should be suspended as well!
Worst ever!

Excellent service from check in to check out and any questions that we had. Appreciated the beautiful bed linens, bathrobes, fluffy towels, Nespresso coffee and boxed breakfast, due to Covid. Fresh croissants, yogurt and orange juice. Location in Old Montreal was fantastic. We walked everywhere including from/to the train station (15min) and Mount Royal (5km). Great restaurants within a few minutes walk. Ghandi Indian was our favourite.
My only suggestion would be to include a nonslip bathmat for the tub for us older guests.
15 October 2021 6:57
Beautiful building, friendly helpful staff, but the hotel is clearly showing some wear and tear.
13 October 2021 22:13
Really convenient location. The little details all other the room, like robes, Nespresso machine and general items with the hotel’s name on it make it seem like it was done very thoughtfully and carefully, which is always nice. Staff was friendly and accommodating.
We had one issue with the shower not changing the temperature of the water but it wasn’t horrible, so really, no complaints!
12 October 2021 22:13
Beautiful hotel. Great location in Old Montréal but a little disappointing. No valet. Their parking was full and basically told me I was on my own to try and find parking. The mini bar fridge was supposed to be available to use for personal use as its empty due to covid-19 but broken. I also booked it using points on one of my credit cards and as a result didn't want to recognize my status. Nor will I get any points or night recognition towards maintaining my status. This might be commonly known but it wasn't for me. I feel like that's poor service. They technically got full price for the room yet won't recognize they have a Platinum Elite member staying with them.
08 October 2021 3:31
High customer focus, great attention to detail, the team always followed up with us for any requests. The team made everyone feel welcomed, including our 2 dogs, they had a water bowl set up for them!
26 September 2021 21:16
Underwhelming experience.

Pro's
Central Location
Vintage Old Montreal Building
Good Service

Cons
Restaurent isn't open (Hotel was nice enough to provide free basic breakfast, but not what you expect from a 4 star hotel)
Entrance is dimly lit and not very welcoming
Room was not clean; dead bugs by the windows and contact lens on the bathroom floor. Put's into question the cleanliness of the room overall.
TV remote didn't work
Shower Faucet was leaky

Overall had higher expectations for a 4 star 200$ plus room. Front desk staff was nice and helpful and offered a discount for the cleanliness and small issues which was appreciated.

The hotel bar staff were beyond rude. I speak both English and Polish, very little French but I did try very hard. The bartender treated me like garbage. I was with a male friend and after he tipped him, he told him "if he was to come back, he would show him a good time", but clearly not me. He questioned why my friend was paying and I had to explain it was because I paid for dinner. After this he demanded I tell him the restaurant, after worths he left us alone and made that comment to my male friend after he tipped him. He was soooooo rude. I worked as a bartender and if I spoke to someone like this I would be fired on the spot. The sexism was through the roof and sooooo unnecessary. I was so shocked I froze and couldn't even speak up. I went upstairs and actually cried in the bathroom alone. I will not be returning to this hotel and maybe never to Montreal. This bartender is why individuals across Canada feel people in Quebec are beyond rude. I met some amazing people in Montreal who treated me well, but this just hurt so much.
14 September 2021 20:42
Hotel staff were very professional and polite. Rooms were great, clean and we had city views. Fridge and safe included as well as breakfast in a box. Great location to walk around and enjoy an old city and boutiques. Great place to drone if you have Advanced Certificate, get clearance to fly above and take some great panoramic and 3D imagery. You are just on the boarder of coverage without further requests other than via NAV Canada to get clearance.
14 September 2021 20:27
The room was not clean and I didn't have hot water in my room. I found it very dark and creepy.
14 September 2021 0:37
This was our 3rd visit at St. Paul. We enjoyed the decor and ambience of this place. Each time we make sure to choose a different room cause each room has its special character. We love the architecture and the creativity behind the design of this hotel. We were on the top floor this time and we loved our high ceilings and the view. The staff are always professional and friendly. We were surprised by complimentary breakfast delivered to our room in the morning. Only thing I wish was that we don’t have COVID so we could’ve enjoyed the delicious food at Hambar, the restaurant within the hotel.
13 September 2021 3:22
Stayed here in 2019 using the romantic package found on-line on the hotel's website to then be overcharged for things that were included in the package! I noticed that extra charges had passed on my credit card after we had checked out of the hotel and the administration did not even hold themselves responsible. They reluctantly reimbursed me the overcharges and when I asked what would have happened if I did not notice these overcharges, the response was, "we are glad you noticed", Check your credit card statement when staying here because you could be swindled.

Séjour parfait, le personnel est très professionnel et toujours disponible. L’hôtel est bien situé et la chambre est propre et confortable!
28 September 2020 17:37
Great hotel overall, comfortable bed. My stay was during COVID so hotel service was reduce to the minimum. Unfortunately wifi was not working that evening there was an issue with the network, after a long day driving I just wanted to watch a movie on my computer at least but no wifi and TVs are very small in the room (under 40inch) and not smart TV (no Netflix etc) which is surprising for an hotel of this caliber and reputation.when I booked online on Marriott app it was stating a package with breakfast but it was actually a box with two croissants, one yogurt and orange juice (plus 3 nespresso capsule). As all the restaurant in Montreal were open at that time I didn’t understand much why it was like this but at least it should have been mentioned in the booking that it was actually a breakfast box and not a full breakfast.

Other little irritant is that the mini bar was locked, so no access to cold water (there was not even water bottles in the room), meaning have to drink not-so-cold water from the tap. Understanding this COVID situation, they could have perhaps just emptied the mini bar and at least let us put some water bottles to keep them cold (as I saw in all other 4 hotels I’ve been during my 2 weeks stay in Quebec). Just these little details can make all the difference in the overall experience. Yes I got a fairly good price for the night (around $200) but this doesn’t mean customer experience should be left aside.

I advised the reception upon checkout of these items and they mention they will follow-up with management, but an apology with a small credit/on the house drinks at their outside patio could have been appreciated.

Anyhow, staff were very friendly and spotless room, great location.the As an titanium elite member with bonvoy, I didn’t find the feel of the usual service/room amenities with this hotel category. Hopefully they can work on these small things to make it a better overall experience!
