Sterling

The sterling has lost it's appeal, it's not the best steak in town anymore. The service is amateurish and the menu is bland. There are way better restaurants for way less expensive.

This place used to be the best steakhouse in town … but I have been 3 times in the last 2 years and they miss-cooked the steak in all 3 times:/
Sure they offered to correct their mistake but it takes forever to make a new one and I end up being forced to eat an overcooked steak

Quality of the food went down as well

This place is no longer that good unfortunately and that’s sad as I used to love it

Great dinner out with friends! Most of us opted for the table d'hote and the one who didn't, regretted it (of course their a la carte meal was also amazing)

Food was cooked perfectly and served at a perfect temperature, wine selection and drinks were great, and the service was impeccable.

Was our first time, but we'll be back again soon I'm sure.

Super bon service et excellente nourriture! Il y avait tellement de choix qui semblaient succulents que j'ai eu de la difficulté à choisir! La température des aliments ainsi que la cuisson des viandes étaient juste parfaites. Le service était rapide et efficace et on a eu un beau petit coin tranquille pour manger en amoureux. On planifie déjà y retourner pour essayer les autres plats qui nous ont tentés.

In a grand celebration of our enduring love, my beloved wife and I embarked on a magnificent journey to Sterling to commemorate our glorious 10th year wedding anniversary. Though the experience carried a weighty price, its splendor was unparalleled and undeniably justified. Delightfully, the epicurean adventure began with a divine menu du jour, presenting a symphony of flavors through three exquisite courses. My taste buds were tantalized as I indulged in the tantalizing tartar beef, harmonizing with the velvety allure of broccoli soup. The pinnacle of culinary opulence was reached with the arrival of a majestic 12oz NY steak, a succulent masterpiece that captivated our senses and left us yearning for more. The grand finale was none other than a divine creation of cheese cake, bestowing upon us a heavenly conclusion to this culinary odyssey. Enthralled by the enchanting ambiance, we beheld the breathtaking scenic view, an awe-inspiring backdrop that elevated the occasion to an ethereal realm. With utmost ardor, I implore you to grace this exceptional establishment with your presence for any momentous affair, as its allure is destined to create cherished memories for eternity.

It's been a while since I've had a decent steak. Can safely claim that my time there has been the best service I've had all year thanks to Myriam and Shaw-Michael, they're passionate, dedicated and focused individuals who go up and down flights of stairs for their customers.

Lastly the place looks amazing, great views, great historical venue. Perfect spot for a fancy date. You will be treated like royalty and nothing less.

Amazing hospitality and the food is out of this world.

Simply the right place to celebrate an anniversary.

Beautifully restored old house, located over looking a river.we had steak cooked to perfection. Bread was freshly baked. All in all was a very good experience

Great steak. Service was slow, but gave us time to chat. We had a great evening. Great wine list. A must in Gatineau/Ottawa. Best steak in the region for sure.

Bravo! Très bien fait! The tartar, soup, steak and roasted veg were perfectly executed. Their sauces were superb (had and opportunity to try the port reduction and peppercorn). I tried a morsel of my brother's bison steak and that was even better than my perfect steak. Very pleasant and attentive (but not intrusive) service. Warm atmosphere and very pleasing ambience. Excellent!

This restaurant was very good, unfortunately not anymore. It is very overpriced for what serviced. The quality has drastically gone down not to mention the horrible service. Our 2 waitresses where completely unprofessional and non challant. Very disappointing when your dropping at least 200$/person to be treated so badly is really unacceptable in a restaurant of this caliber. Vet your wait staff better.

Excellent service de l'arrivée au départ. La nourriture en passant par la présentation et la cuisson ainsi que le vin/cocktails étaient à la hauteur de ce restaurant, soit irréprochable. Nous avons passé une agréable soirée de fête et retournerons c'est certain. Je recommande fortement si vous êtes amateur de steaks de haute qualité et fruits de mer.

Une recommandation que j'aurais à faire serait d'ajouter un steak de tomohawk ou wagyu sur le menu et d'offrir un plat supplémentaire de volaile.

Food was okay, service was bad. Over priced and they charged for a refill of machined soda Diet Coke.

You can see how many dead mussels here. For such a fine dining restaurant, it is totally unacceptable.

Asked several times for the bread and it comes together with starter, maybe the bread was just ready at that time.

The service is good and staffs are friendly.

Amazing food, staff and ambiance. Highly knowledgeable staff make sure you have exactly the perfect pairings.

Malheureusement un resto qui a perdu beaucoup de sa qualité. La nourriture était moyenne, les crevettes sans goût et beaucoup trop cuite et le filet mignon pas au niveau attendu. Par contre le service était excellent. Pas recommandé, il y a plein de meilleures options pas loin

Summary:   I wanted to love the place but left disappointed.   More than two star but not three based on the ever elusive price/ambience/service calculation.   The highs; classic steakhouse decor in an old rambling house on the Gatineau River, great views of the Ottawa and Gatineau Rivers, tuxedo'd wait staff.   The lows; overpriced, unimaginative, poorly prepared food.

After we were there, my 26 year old son who had been there before unbeknownst to me summed it up to me as "Overrated ".   Hmm.

More details:   When you enter the restaurant from where you would mostly likely park, you see an outside presence that says "We don't care ".   See photos. Seriously!? Rotting siding with the styrofoam insulation showing. A back entrance that is dumpy looking (it's better in this photograph. I was there a month before but my phone was out of power.) It looked like a place for the staff to smoke, litter and leave trash.

They didn't know how to make a "Vesper Martini".   Should be a well-known classic by now.   To their credit, they deducted the sickly sweet lemonade vodka cocktail from the bill.

It's a  steakhouse.   They should know perfect doneness.   My medium rare pushed medium.   The accompanying mushrooms were layered with a floury red wine (?) sauce.   They forgot the fries.   After reminding the server,   they came back with a stainless steel container of overcooked damp fries.   Blah.

Wife and other son were also left unimpressed.   Can't imagine ever returning soon except for the ambience and view.

Went there last night. From the parking to the attentive staff to the meal we had (table d'hote). Everything was great. We thoroughly enjoyed the expérience. We will be back. À bien tôt!

Probably one of the best dinners I've ever had. The best comparison for this steakhouse is Gibby's in MTL, and the steak at Sterling just way outmatched it.
My other dishes were just as wonderful as the steak. Absolutely bonkers that they could develop this flavour profile in their steak, it's just a unique experience. The menu had a nice amount of protein and seafood options without being overwhelming. It's such a red flag if a restaurant menu is too long, and this one is perfect.
Service was incredible, I had the best time. Super considerate, experienced servers that you just don't find elsewhere. Everyone knew their stuff. Had an awesome little tour from the manager and a great conversation.
The wine list is comprehensive and has a ton of price points. They had our favourite Portuguese import!

Beautiful view of the Gatineau river sitting on the nice patio. Food is amazing, had a delicious New York steak with all the different sauces on the side, for appetizer braised Scallop and a spectacular Burrata salad! Service was really good. A definite thumps up, you won't be disappointed.

Disappointed, food was tepid and we had to send it back. Restaurant was not overflowing so this was not the reason Given the prices at this restaurant, about $300 for two, expected better and has been in the past. Service was sloppy. Will we be back? Not sure.

With that kind of money I would go to The Keg, Attelier, Brassica, or Next Food. Much better food in the same price range.

Service was awesome and both servers were really attentive. However out of the 6 dishes we ordered in our group, 6 were overcooked. Even the Maigret de Canard was fully cooked!

La Table D'Hote, was extremely bland, flavourless! Soup was cold, the ceviche had no taste (If you want an awesome ceviche go to "Petit Peru" in Hull)

Also, there was a "special", and I think the special was beef that was almost going bad, because both my wife and me had stomach issues that night (see other reviews with the same "issues".

In a restaurant whose specialty is the beef, there is no excuse of serving overcooked, going bad, food.

Came here for birthday dinner. The food was delicious! Highly recommend the escargot appetizer. Service was superb, ask for Marc! He was so hospitable with a great sense of humour. I had an incredible evening:)

Excellent meal and service! I had the small NY steak and it was larger and better than expected. Loved the twice baked potato and mushroom sauce.

Beautiful restaurant, the service staff was amazing and the wine was fantastic.

My husband and I went there for my birthday and we had the table d'hote. The soup and appetizers were great.

However, my entree was quite disappointing. I had the lobster Thermidor with macaroni and cheese. First up, the presentation was lacking. Everything was just slapped on the plate, without care.

The pasta tasted like it was boxed or I highly doubt it was made fresh that day. The lobster was chewy and overcooked. Having my doubts about whether it was fresh or frozen.

It was very mediocre and for a restaurant like Sterling's, I expect far better than mediocre, especially for the price.

If I wanted boxed pasta and overcooked lobster, I would've stayed home. Pretty disappointing birthday dinner.

By far, the best service in town. Steaks are just good - I've had better. Fois gras and desserts are to die for. And great wine selection. I do go for service!
