Supermarché Akhavan

Difficult to access since they moved but one of the best quality price place in town for vegetables.

This place is a complete maze, it seems to be multiple building linked together with cashes and an entrance at both ends. Once you figure that out it becomes easier to navigate. But do not let that or the terrible layout inside dissuade you. There are some great things here. The feta is the best I ever had, I cannot eat it anywhere else, the olives and nuts offer so much choice and the desserts will tempt you at every turn. Many items cannot be found at your local store and the prices are excellent. I would ask one favor, please install a secure bike rack up front, it is easy to bike to but there are limited placed to lock up your bike.

I had a fantastic shopping experience at Akhavan Supermarket in Montréal! From the moment I walked in, I was impressed by the cleanliness and organization of the store. The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful, making my visit even more enjoyable.

I got used to being disappointed at this store, then I just stopped going. Guess I'm not the only one.

You should try the Iranian kababs at the Akhavan restaurant, incredibly delicious, very tasty and juicy meat for not expensive at all, the rice they serve is soooo good!
Small but very clean and organized place to sit down and eat their amazing food, staff are extremely friendly!

You can find any persian food from shire morgh to joone adamizad from iranian brand here.also there is always a perisan music playing there:)

Unfriendly staff. Asked where ground garlics are and just pointed the direction without any words nor didn't show the shelves where they were.

Their hummus is unbeatable in terms of price and taste. Also just overall an excellent grocery store with plenty of cheap produce, meat (especially marinated chicken), and a great nuts/seeds section!

The rudest and most irresponsible manager. He is impolite to both employees and customers. He sells expired products and not even apologizes for it, but also behaves rudely to ones who bring back the expired stuff. Stay away from this sh*ty store.

I love this place. They have such a wide variety of products and their prices are very good. They also have great produce and prepared meals (not during the pandemic though).

Some harder to find products that you can't get elsewhere. The prices aren't the best, and the clientele can be a bit pushy.

The hours on the website shows 8 pm and they closed at 6: 00 pm. I got there right at 6 and the guy lock the door right on my face! Didn’t say a word, like sorry we are closed or.even though it didn’t make sense but I understood that he might been told to not let anyone even if it’s sharp 6 pm. As I went there all the way from Laval, I knocked the door and told him can I ask a question? He said no with shaking his head! Then he open the door to help the client that been inside and I said I just have a question, it’s not about getting in! He didn’t even look at me and closed the door and shake his head again. If it was Walmart or any other store, at least the talk to you and say sorry I can’t or excuse me I’m not allowed or anything! It was very disrespectful all those attitude and body language he had. Never seen such a thing! As he had to open the door ten times to let the people out I told him I just wanted to ask a question and your reaction is not the best. He said cash kelozed that means cash closed lol
Im sorry for that store manager and the Persian culture that this guy is representing.

Akhavan on Sherbrooke in NDG consistently has rotten tzatziki - it was fizzy like soda pop - and hummus. Each time that it happens I think that I will give them the benefit of the doubt. And I want to support local businesses. But, this is the final time that I will ever waste my time and money at Akhavan. They should be ashamed for selling rotten food. It is not only a waste of people's hard earned money, but disrespectful during these covid-19 times when people have to think very carefully about what establishments they're going to enter.

Like every where else there is a pros and cons.
You will find very of things to but out of middle east cuisine, art, nuts and confectionery

Always check the expiration date and use your nail to make sure the print is real industry jet print.

I found some goods they were reprinted the date.
Also if you tell to the owner about this they don't really give a. (good attention)

Very limited selection of meats and vegetables.

Akhavan has the best selection of the tastiest olives in the city. I am less enamored, however, by their prepared foods such as their samosas and patties.these I find heavy and not particularly flavorful. I find fruits and vegetables priced higher than the quality might suggest.other, more Iranian / ethnic foods are available at reasonable prices.

It happened twice for me that the products on sale were expired for more than a year and I noticed that when I got home, I couldn't trust the store anymore. I'm not sure if that's legal and healthy.

I have to say I read the reviews and I was expecting the worse before I got there, because I wanted to see how is this place like anyways.
TBH people really misjudge people and places that I shouldn’t even consider. They’re doing their job and they help when you ask them. It’s not like they are designated to give you a descriptive explanation for those many items there.

Wide Isles, immaculatly clean and organized. Super fresh herbs. Awesome selection of Persian breads and products you can't find elsewhere. At peak hours it gets waay too crowded yet never rude. The take-out counter has surprisingly good stews and a lubia polo. Their sammoza's and baklavas best in town. Reasonable prices. Wide selection of rices, including persian brands. Simply the best food market in Ndg.

Great meat department! All kinds of nuts, courteous staff, great selection of fruits and vegetables. Know people who travel from the south shore to shop there.

My first visit here was in 1998. I had met my ex Iranian girlfriend in May 1998. They have a wide variety of dry and wet foods. I confess NOT having visited this place since 2003. I bought Iranian pop songs here.
From what I fondly remember; Miss Bita Tangestanifar loved everything about Iran. As we fell in love; I also fell in love with Iran! Her food, language, culture and customs. It really opened my eyes!
Iranians are some of the most polite and courteous people in the world. Although her mother was a teacher in Iran, I learnt most of my limited vocabulary in Farsi (Persian) from my ex. I can't read or write it, but I can speak and understand some words. It sounds quite melodious. Lovely!
Marché Akhavan; as it was called back then, was the "go to" place for Iranian food, songs, movies, music, bilingual Farsi/English newspapers; amidst myriad choices.

The little Persian restaurant in the back is so good! The kebabs and rice are perfectly juicy. Service is uneven-sometimes they serve extras like salad or tea, sometimes not-but they are always kind and the food is extraordinarily fresh. After lunch, enjoy the store, which sells things like rose-petal jam, cardamom tea, Persian pistachios, saffron infused sugar for tea, Barbari bread, cheeses, and a fantastic assortment of meats.

Apparently the staff are poorly treated. My buddy worked there a bit. Said it was like in Iran. Their products are fantastic and the staff mostly seem nice.

Good quality for the best price, many vegetables and products from other countries, meat and dairies, nuts, teas, hand- made soap.and nice staff

That's one of my favorite stores in city, it's a Persian store, the people are always nice and helpful, i go there every week, always good price on fruits and vegies, also one can find many products from the Balkans, as well as lamb and beef meat, and very often lamb heads, which is a delicacy! There is also areal Bulgarian sheep feta - THE BEST in the world, it's in the small 1kg metal boxes, made for export only, top quality product hard to find even in Bulgaria.

Different food assortments from Iran and neighboring areas. If you like you can also get there a decent grilled kebab.

This store is good for non Iranian customers. It's their policy to respect non-Iranian.
Each time I go there I see bad behaviour of cashiers who are not satisfied with their job.
It's related to the managers who just think of money and very proud of their stores. Soon they will lose all their customers by this attitude.
I suggest go to the other Iranian stores if you look for special products.

Very nice authentic Persian product and spices. I loved kebab and some Persian sweet. Definitely go back. It could be be bigger with more spacious.

Great little Persian grocery store with a nice restaurant at the back. The service at the cashes is not pleasant, though, so I avoid going unless I specifically need something from there.

The only place if I buy meat from it I feel command I enjoy cooking it.
The meat is clean, and fresh very good price.

I don’t but usually vegetables or fruits from here since there’s is a bit different between other places but I’m sure the quality is good.
They do have very good Persian tea and other types as well.
Parking available not hard to park.
I do trust this place strongly recommended for individuals & Families.

The environment is not bad quality so so but what bothers me the cashier look haven't eaten for a week, very low energy

If you care about the environment, I encourage you to stop shopping at Akhavan.

I used to regularly shop here seeing that it’s a well equipped Persian store. However, I’ll stop shopping here permanently and I recommend all others to do the same. Here’s my reasoning. The manager doesn’t care about the environment and doesn’t trust his own employees.

I had brought my own jars to fill up on bulk items, however his employees are not allowed to zero the scale and use multiple plastic bags to transfer the nuts into my jars. Going against the exact reasoning for using reusable jar.to avoid plastic in the first place. One even told me it’s not hygienic, while he was talking over 20 buckets filled with nuts in front of him with no covers on them to protect them from his own germs. When I asked the manager why his employees can’t zero their scale, he mentioned he doesn’t trust them and that they may actually one day zero it for their friends or family and steal from him.

This is a lack of respect for his own employees. And anyone would know that if you treat your employees this way, you treat your customers the same. Lack of respect for employees and lack of care for the environment (especially on Earth day) lost my full business.

This is a grocery store in NDG where you can get fresh vegetable and meat. In think it Iranian oriental, lot of Muslim people shop here due to availability of halal meat. Price is comparably better here. I like the different brands of tea, specially earl grey flavour. People at meat section are very friendly, they will cut the meat for you and do small pieces the way you want. Fresh Basmati rice is also available in different brand from different countries specially from India and Pakistan. They Arab style sweet also.

Been shopping there daily and today's purchase of "Lentil Salad" (prepared food) had gone bad. Had bad attitude from scrawny little manager/ owner? Had the nerve to say "and what would you like to to do about that? "

Very disappointing management!
Today, I went to the store to get brown rice. But I could not spot it on the shelves after spending 5 mins or so. As I wanted to step out, the management stopped and asked me, what am I doing here without even saying hi, I answered was looking for brown rice, but could not find it! Then he said you can't come in here like this sort of imploiet manner. I think he meant wearing the sunglasses & having a backpack in the back! And he asked to check my backpack. I said sure. After checking it, he returned it and looked at me without saying anything. I said, you are sure now!? He said yes by nodding his head!
I hope they learn how to treat people properly!

Love this place! Every middle eastern ingredient you can imagine. A whole row devoted to tea and other hot drinks. Wonderful snacks en vrac. Pre-marinated (or fresh) meats of the highest quality (all Halal).
And THE BEST (no kidding) hummus to be found anywhere.
