THE best Thai restaurant in Montreal. A hidden gem just in the outskirts of Villeray/border St-Michel.
We absolutely ADORED everything we ordered. We were 2 and got the following: - Papaya Salad (Laos Style) - Papaya Salad (Thai Style) - Nem Khao - Pad Thai - Large Tom Yum Soup - Mango sticky rice
They get a bonus point for having papaya salad with padaek sauce (Laos style papaya salad) - personally, that’s the true marker of an AUTHENTIC Thai restaurant.
The mango sticky rice is a must have for dessert and the place is also a BYOB.
Every single bite transported me back to Thailand and I can’t wait to be back soon!
I have a Thai foodie and catering chef in my family, and when she visits from Thailand, this is the only Thai restaurant she enjoys and considers authentic. Having been to Thailand recently and to multiple Thai restos in Montreal myself, I must agree.
The papaya salad, fresh, sour and spicy, brought me back to a street food stall at night in Bangkok, and the khaosoi reminded me of a comforting lunch in the searing heat of Chiang Mai. If I had to nitpick, I would say that the northern style sausages were not as sour as I was used to back there, but still tasty.
The service was really friendly and quick too, and the prices quite reasonable considering the insane inflation we've been through.
Do keep in mind it's cash only and no ATM, so come prepared!
Price ranges after tax per person without drinks: - one person, single dish: $16-$20 - two people sharing a few dishes: $25-$40
In short: if you want to try real Thai food, this is the place.
One of my favorite Thai restaurant. We liked the pad thai, pad sew, the beef bbq and the mango salad. We also tried the fish (pla rad sauce kra thime), it was ok.
I loved it! I might suggest bringing family and friends if you want to try out different dishes. Then you can also benefit from a two-for-one on Tuesdays. It's bring your own alcoholic beverage, as well, if you prefer.
Thai Sep is a hidden gem in Montreal serving up some of the best Thai food I've ever tasted. This "hole-in-the wall" restaurant may not look like much from the outside, but the food speaks for itself. The menu is extensive, with plenty of delicious options for vegetarians and meat-eaters alike. The dishes are fresh and flavourful, and the service is top-notch. Don't let the simplicity of the decor fool you – Thai Sep is a must-visit for anyone who loves great food. Highly recommended!
Une excellente adresse familiale où manger à petit prix! Je recommande très vivement le menu #33 qui surclasse tout! Bring Your Own (wine) // pas de reservation // reductions les mardi (voir leur page Fb)
I had a bad experience with "Thai Sep" restaurant. I took out 4 different dishes, and when I opened the boxes at home I was shocked to see the food's quantity. The quantity was very small compare to the price and other Thai restaurants. Also, the food quality was average! I will never go back to this restaurant.: (
I would come back again and again for their Soupe Thai Sep. It is comforting and reminiscent of soup noodles I would find in street stalls in Asia. The noodles have an addictive texture, soft at first then pleasantly chewy as you bite into it. The noodles are made in house and the freshness is apparent.
Délicieux à chaque fois. Tous les plats fait avec amour par la maman Très hâte d’y retourner après leurs vacances, ils seront de retour qu’à la mi ou fin avril 2023 (j’oublie la date exact, appeler avant de vous rendre)
My favorite dishes: Thai sep noodles Sausages with sticky rice Nem Khao Lao’s beef salad
It’s a small restaurant that doesn’t take reservations. Service is good but serving is a bit slow. They only accept cash. Some other dishes may be on the sweeter to too sweet to my taste but the dishes I mentioned above are really good. I’ve been twice already and planning to go back.
Good food. Good prices good service and bring your own wine makes it a perfect go to restaurant. The place would need a little bit of love tho (renovation wise)
We went here for Thanksgiving Dinner. Pleasant dining experience. Small mom & pop restaurant. Attentive service since we came early for the meal and there were only 2 other guests as our neighbors. Food: Authentic Thai/Lao cuisine. We had fried fish (recommended but caution with fish bones), chicken pad Thai, Papaya salad and Thai Sausages. Most leaned toward Lao's style but packed a punch with spicy chilly peppers. True spiciness will be delivered as you asked. For me, Asian, medium is just the right kick. Thai sausages are more Northern Thai or Lao Sai Ua not Esan. Packed with lemongrass and herby flavors. Good drinking food! Chicken pad Thai is more comfort homefood, leans toward tomatoes notes. My apologies but as a Vietnamese who had been to Thailand many times, i've had a more tangy, spicy and smoky (wok hei) pad Thai. Vibe: family style with chill instrumental Thai music. Space: Small, (3) 4-tops and (3) 2-tops. BYOB: free, many guests bring their own and the restaurant provides chill bath, ice and glasses. Price: CASH only. Most people know and come prepared. Considering the climbing of ingredients economically, this is affordable for 2. Hope this helps!
