78 minute wait, i think theyres a big hype around it. The ramen was good but not worth the wait in my personal Opinion, the vibe is great. Our waiter Felix was amazing

Nourriture délicieuse, je vous conseille vraiment d’attendre pour pouvoir tester leurs ramens. Ce sont les meilleurs ramens que j’ai pu manger au Québec et même au Canada jusque là. Leurs carbonaras à la japonaise sont aussi très bonnes, bons takoyakis, bon karaage. Très bonne ambiance, lieu très immersif. Bon service, personnel très poli.

Bref, si vous hésitez, n’hésitez plus et foncez! Leurs ramens sont à tester absolument!

C'est un joyau caché qui mérite d'être connu pour tous les amateurs de cuisine nipponne.
La star du spectacle, bien-sûr est le Ramen. J'ai opté pour le Ramen Yokabaï Signature et je dois dire que c'est un véritable délice. Le bouillon était riche en saveurs, parfaitement équilibré et réconfortant. Les nouilles étaient fraîches et parfaitement cuites, et les garnitures étaient généreuses et savoureuses. Chaques bouchés fut un voyage gustatif en soi.

I always look forward to eating here! We were a group and got a table after half an hour on a busy Sunday afternoon, but it's worth the wait and the price! I always get a bit more than I asked for in my ramen and those burdock fries are great!

Vraiment bon restaurant. Si vous voulez une qualité semblable à celle du Japon je recommande ce restaurant. Le prix est pas cher et il y a plus que juste des ramens un souper diversifié.

The ramen was good and the broth pretty thick.
Like a lot of places in Montreal the ramen soup is not piping hot like in Japan. (Maybe it’s not possible to make things that hot?)
The korokke (fried potato with veg) and the sweet potato side dish were very tasty and crunchy as well.

Been coming here since they opened and it never disappoints.the Japanese atmosphere here is just so cool.would never expect a super ramen place to be located in the plateau

The broth/soup is flavorful and thick. Very rich and creamy, the char siu pieces are tender. Unlike other ramen l broth that I've tried.
Place is very cramped, no covid19 physical distancing being observed/enforced.

Great place, the ambience is nice, the pricing is adequate and the food is absolutely delicious! The service was also great, very nice waiters/waitresses. The only thing is it's very busy, you might have to wait 1-2 hours beforehand if it's on a Saturday or something like that.
EDIT: To adress the response to this rewiew, it was definitely worth the wait! The restaurant is located near mount royal and there is a lot to do there. If you have to wait to get in, go explore the neighborhood!

Noodles changed and are not as good. Broth too fat. For takeout, they use a service that automatically adds 15% tip over amount with taxes. I only noticed afterwards and they said they could not refund. Dishonest.

I read somewhere this is the place in MTL to get ramen, and I think it lives up to the hype. Honestly one of the best tonkotsu ramens I’ve ever had, and I’m from Toronto where we have Michelin star Konjiki & Sansotei (the OG Canada flagship). I love that we can customize the bowl especially spice levels and I loved how tasty yet clean the broth was, I honestly drank the soup! Highly recommend:) Nice atmosphere as well, it’s connected to an Izakaya (we sat in the izakaya area and ordered ramen from here since they’re next door).

This place was in my wish list. I was waiting to get to the place and try their famous food. But one un responsible employee rows in everything.
My husband got there earlier and they sate to have their food, he asked them to put us on a list to give us a table but they did miss calculations and it ends up waiting at door 35 minutes while see others getting table without reservation. I end up leaving there without having dinner. And the funniest part was she was not sorry for that at all.

One of my favourite Ramen places in Canada for a while now. The chicken broth is AMAZING. The pork belly is so massive and tender.

Having been to Japan multiple times over the past few years, I'm always on the hunt for a delicious tonkotsu ramen (not often offered here). I ordered it with 'normal' saltiness and maybe that's why it wasn't 10/10. Chasu and noodles were delicious though and atmosphere was lovely. Would try again next time if I have the chance, but missing the rich and dashi flavours from Japan. Would have wanted some fresh crushed garlic too.

Definitely the best ramen restaurant in Montreal. The noodles are freshly made and doesn't have any alkaline-like taste like other ramen restaurants do. We love the broth very much, there's no aftertaste even after drinking it all. Will definitely go back every time we visit Montreal.

Amazing ramen and the food overall. It's ambiance is great to go with groups of people and ideal to hang out with some friends. Reservations are recommended since it's a place that's very sought after. Service is a little bit slow but it doesn't affect the overall experience. Prices are normal for what you can get here in Montreal.

I have no issue dine in, Ramen is amazing and service is good. But they need to improve their take out service. I live in Brossard and never mind driving to the plateau to get my ramen to bring home. Both time they got our orders wrong. The first time they forgot the sauce for my two orders Karagae and i called to see if they can at least refund me one because without the sauce its just taste plain. Said they will call me back and they never did. Now today, i ordered two ramen one with pork and one with chicken and again both of the ramen is chicken. I AM EXTREMELY DISAPPOINTED WITH THE LACK OF CHECKING WHEN PACKING CLIENT’S ORDER. Please do better, if im gonna paid $50 for two ramen i expect to have exactly what i ordered

Today I was adventurous and tried the pork tonkutsu broth ramen, fried octopus balls, and fried chicken. The pepper and lemon fries chicken tastes good. But everything else was average. The ramen broth was lack luster, tasting like frothy milk, all the ramen ingredients did not enhance the dish or had a unique flavour, just bland.

3/5 for a lack luster, frothy, & milky tonkutsu ramen

I am quite conflicted on reviewing this restaurant. If I want to be truthful and state truthfully how wonderful this restaurant is, how absolutely delicious and explode-in-your-mouth flavourful its Ramen noodle broth is and not only that but how each of the ingredients including the ramen noodles are just so gorgeously tasty and well made, I am sure I will never be able to get a seat at this restaurant because that's how busy this restaurant is no matter what time of the day you visit them (and deservingly so) and that is just to the Soup-Only side. They have another side of the same restaurant that also serves comfort food in addition to the Ramen noodles and that side is an 1-hour wait when we had just arrived 30 min.after opening during one of our visits. My visit to them was my first time tasting Ramen noodles and after this incredible virgin Ramen noodle experience, now I am addicted and am constantly thinking back about the smooth and yet chewy but not hard Ramen noodles that been soaked in the broth that has the explosion of flavours that eventually warmed the whole body on a winter night with -25 degree temperature. If only I can get a seat. But if I want to get a seat, I will have to lie and give bad reviews to this restaurant so less people show up. This is how good the food in this restaurant is that one would be tempted to lie just to want to get in.

The broth that we had was the pork-based one (the authentic broth style) but with vegetable, tofu and full egg toppings and with fried chicken as the appetizer. Word of advice: The fried chicken and the tofu is a MUST-HAVE. It's absolutely wonderful that they let you customize your order and once you tasted their tofu, you will know why it's eaten by pretty much all Asians in the world.

The ramen at this shop is very creamy. A little too much for my tastes but I generally prefer a lighter broth. So in terms of broth if you enjoy a heavy and creamy pork broth this is for you. Unfortunately they ran out of thick noodles so I only had the opportunity to try thin. I don’t prefer thin in my pork based ramens, I find the thicker noodles pair better with the heavy taste of tonkotsu. I also prefer my noodles a little more chewy and unfortunately these were on the softer side. The chashu however was on point. I’ve been to a ton of ramen shops around the world this is one of the better places for chashu and they give you two huge pieces of it. It has this nice sweetness to it.

Tonkotsu Broth - 4/5 (personal preference I don’t like creamy broth)
Thin Noodles - 3/5 (couldn’t get thick and they were too soft)
Chashu - 5/5

Also ordered two appetizers: Karaage and Croquettes. The croquettes were a little pricey but very crispy and soft on the inside. I wasn’t a huge fan of the karaage but at that point I had little room left to truly enjoy it.

Definitely worth the price. Their broth is the best I have yet to taste in all of mtl. Would definitely recommend.

Yokato Yokabai Ramen House! Allez faire le line up de 40 minutes pour manger cette soupe, c’est la meilleure que j’ai goûtée. Dès que j’ai lu le créole dans le nom du restaurant « Yo-ka-bai », j’ai senti le lien, la connexion qui allait y avoir entre le restaurant et moi! J’lai senti! C’est sûr que quand j’ai vu le mélange de boisson de soya, de poulets, d’oeuf et d’algues dans mon bol.j’ai certainement eu des questionnements dans ma tête! Mais, malgré tout ça, j’ai pris une bouchée et là, ça été la confirmation d’un longue et belle relation. BTW, j’ai défait le bouton de mon pantalon tellement que j’étais pleine.et je m’assume pleinement. Bonne découverte! P. S. The closest you'll get to an authentic bowl of ramen and atmosphere in Montreal. Ramen is great and flavourful + the karaage is the best you'll find in the city. Highly recommended but plan your trip accordingly as you may have to line up if visiting at the wrong times!

Update: suite à une erreur sur ma commande (on m'a donné un bouillon à la viande vs aux légumes et je suis végétarienne), le gérant m'a téléphoné pour s'excuser et m'a assuré que la question allait être prise au sérieux. J'ai aussi obtenu remboursement. En général, j'ai toujours été satisfaite de ce restaurant tant au niveau du goût que de l'ambiance.

The food is good but every time I go there it takes 40min to 1h before I get seated. And they are not well organized. If you don’t want to wait a lot of time just for a bowl of ramen don’t go there.

Ramen here is extraordinary, even better than I have had in Japan. Especially the pork soup, fantastic thick and yummy. I usually don't like the thin noodles, because I don't think goes well with the soup. But in here, they are really a good match.

On cherchait le meilleur spot de ramen à Montréal. On a assurément trouvé! Le bouillon, les nouilles, la viande, les oeufs et même les condiments mis sur la table sont plus qu'excellent, le gingembre mariné spécialement. C'est tellement bon, qu'après 20 minutes de l'ouverture, il y avait déjà 30 minutes d'attente à l'extérieur. Arrivez tôt!

I really don’t understand why there are so many positive comments here. This is not genuine Japanese ramen and I wanna throw up after I ate there (broth too greasy). I was waiting for one and a half hour and found out they let half of the seats empty on purpose for maintaining the long line. Super bad experience and food.

I've been here countless times and only recently I've come where there's plenty of seats available on the bar side, and they make people wait in line outside with no communication. Seat people down, serve them drinks and make money while they wait. It makes no sense to me. Aside from that, tonkotsu ramen is decent, but not worth the poor service I've recently experienced. Thought they'd like to know.

My wife's favorite restaurant in Montreal. The burdock fries were amazing. The pork belly was some of the best I've had. My wife was crazy for the noodles and the broth.

One of the best ramen in town, but lack of quality service even on a week day without rush time have started. A bit more pricey than other and be prepared to wait most of days.

I used to come and order here often. Prices went up, which I can understand. But quality went down and it’s unfortunate. For almost 50$ take out, with basic orders of two ramen soup, you would expect a minimum of vegetables, specially the vegetarian one, where it shouldn’t be considered extra. Plus the broth quantity was half sized down of what they used to give. My bowl barely had enough to cover. I can not recommand this place anymore, it’s getting worst and worst. Only go there if it’s your last option.

On the two visits we were here, there was a very long wait. Seating on the interior is VERY cramped if you get one of the bench chairs, they are not comfortable. Your order is served rushed and you're hurried out the door. There's nothing relaxing or zen about this place, it's hectic and packed. The ramen is very decent but very limited in options, with only pork and chicken being available. There are more comfortable alternatives, try Sumo Ramen in Chinatown for exceptional ramen and a much wider variety of options. Yokato is very good, almost traditional ramen but the crowded spaces and limited options make it an experience you really have to be willing to settle for.

3/5 stars I came to this ramen place from the recommendations of all my friends. When I go to ramen spots what really affects my ratings is the broth. I took the tonkatsu broth. I would describe as a rich and creamy broth with not so much flavor. Maybe it wasn't the best batch that I got but I thought it lacked a lot of flavor. However, I would say the pork is definitely the best part of the meal. It was crispy and tender when you bite off it, it literally melts in your mouth.

I took off another star for price point in comparison to the other places this restaurant is definitely more expensive than others.

Service was great, came on a very busy Saturday night.

To each their own. A lot of my friends love this place and I have a few that also feel that the broth wasn't their favorite.

Would I recommend? Yes, still worth a try. And I would go a second time maybe I might change my mind.

I dont know.but the quality of both food and services went down noticeably recently.it took them longer to ask your order and make the dishes.besides, the pork has more fat and the broth is less typical than it used to be.i will retreat 1 star from my previous review then.sorry.

Delicious chicken ramen. The soup is perfect, I like the fact that there is some side ingredients. But little bit desappointed abt the noodles. I wish there is more choices and I had better noodles before!
