Burnt Toast Cafe

My wife and I went here a couple times during our stay, we quite liked it for lunch and breakfast:)
We will be back!

I’m a native Montrealer and a major poutine fanatic. When outside of Quebec, I often roll my eyes at anyone attempting to recreate the Quebecois national dish. I stopped here for lunch and saw ‘Quebec Poutine’ in the menu. I kinda chuckled but decided to get it as an add on to my sandwich. It arrived and much to my surprise, visually, it was spot on. I put this work of art aside so the cheese can have a chance to melt away in a drowning sea of gravy and scarily impressive string fries. About ten mins later, I pulled it in front of me for the test. I took the first bite and refused to even acknowledge that it was good. I took a second bite to justify my first impressions and …. I couldn’t have been more wrong. This was the BEST poutine I’ve ever had. These guys got everything perfect, fries, fat cheese curds and an out of this world gravy! I’m only here for 4 days but I’m coming back for more. Sooo impressed.

Wish i had read the comments before i walked into this establishment, unfortunately so, it was recommended by someone so we decided to go try it out.

When we walked in, one of the wait staff said to take a seat on one of the small (2 person) table. We did and another wait staff with a not so friendly attitude dropped gave us the menu and walked away without saying anything. When we were deciding on what to eat, a white family walked in and the same waitress greeted them, gave them water and explained their special menu for the day. We thought it was strange because we were given such blunt service and never told of any special. We did not think too much, until another two white person walked in, and they directed them to a big table and again was telling them, today's special and what drink they wanted to order. Then, when she came to us to collect our order, her whole persona changed and we were ask very bluntly and a very rude tone "what do you want? " - she did not even ask us what drinks we wanted to order. In the whole seating i was shocked to see her treatment of us, versus a white group. In this day and age, its sad to see such blantant display of racism and being treated as second class. Ofcourse we're just visiting so im glad i will not see this place again in my life.and lots of stories to be told to other people intending on visiting this place, is that if you're a person of colour, forget it.

Their cheddar and ale soup is amazing. Huevos rancheros good.

Weekday service is really good.

Came on the weekend and the young female server (Ava) was constantly on phone, no service at all. Had to get own water and stuff.

The best breakfast I've ever had.
The fruit salad was wonderful, the croissant french toast with syrup was perfect, the scrambled eggs with salmon were great.
We had breakfast every day at this restaurant and it was always great.

We visited twice during our stay in Whitehorse, once for lunch and once for breakfast. Lunch was just fine (fries were a bit over-done and greasy), but breakfast was quite good. I had the croissant French toast, which I find a little gimmicky and feel bad for whoever made the croissant just to have it dipped in egg and fried lol. But still yummy and the service was excellent!

Were only one night in Whitehorse and spontaneously decided to have breakfast in the cafe. I love everything there - the food was delicious and the portions were just right, the coffee was delicious, the prices were absolutely fair, the waiter/boss (?) has a stunningly charming manner and immediately puts you in a good mood! Thanks for a great start in the morning
Had the croissant french toast - big recommendation!

Our breakfast was good but we wanted our eggs beni in which they don't serve during the week. Only during the weekend they call it a brunch. Wow, go figure eggs beni during brunch only?

Simple menu with nicely prepared food. Good, no, great atmosphere. Excellent music played at a quiet volume allowing conversation.

This place have a food quality control issue. I have been here twice. The first time, I had a wonderful food experience here. I ordered the BLTCH with truffle fires. The food came out hot, crispy and flavourful. I came back again a week later ordering the same things. This time, the food was cold, soggy and plain. With the price range, I would expect a high quality control.

Came here for Sunday brunch. Waited give minutes while three different employees walked past and actively avoided eye contact. Not one acknowledged we we’re there. Just a simple “We’ll be right with you” would of been nice. Seemed best just to leave, we we’re clearly in the way waiting at the “please wait to be seated sign”

This place is FABULOUS! Quaint and comfortable. Food is excellent and service is too. Highly recommend

We were being called “Yellow People” by one of their staff while waiting for a table.
This event happened over two years ago and when the owner was notified, the first question she asked us when reaching out was “is there a possibility that you heard wrong? ”

What a great way to handle a PR issue, by making things worse.

We did not accept any of remedies she proposed and with her response to this post below, we are glad we didn’t.

Our kid still asked why she was being called “yellow people” from time to time, and the owner thought a free meal can make everything goes away. Just because we refused your free meal, doesn’t mean you were forgiven.
We Yellow People ain’t that cheap.

We will NEVER go back to this place and we will make sure continue sharing our experience.

If you only care about how the food tasted like, you can stop reading. It’s worth trying out.

It all started when we overheard one of its employee racially attacked and called us “Yellow People” pretending she was talking to other customers while we were 5 steps away waiting for a table.
Among 6 “Yellow People”, 5 of us heard.

To make thing worse, my then 5-year-old daughter heard and asked me “why did she call us Yellow People? ”

It was about two years ago, and yes, we are still hurt from this. Based on the arrogant response from the owner below, this restaurant is dead to us, forever.

A gem in the heart of Whitehorse. Great service, cool vibe and delicious food. By far the best lox and bagel I've ever had. Their home made boursin is the bomb. And the generous portions of the smoke salmon, so yummy! Highly recommend this place for breakfast. Wish we had more time in Whitehorse to try their lunch menu. Paid metered parking just outside or around the corner on Main Street.

Food was good to great, service was a little slow. But overall experience was what I hoped for. Probably the best breakfast in Whitehorse.

Wonderful breakfast. Croque Madam perfect. The BEST roasted potatoes. Coffee excellent. Service was prompt. Atmosphere charming.

Had the huevos rancheros, was absolutely delicious, good coffee and friendly waitress. Place needs a cleaning, the window sills beside the tables were quite dirty. Other than that, was good!

Friendly staff, delicious house blend drip coffee, and excellent maple sausage breakfast. The ingredients tasted fresh.

The lone female server remained cordial even though it was clear to see that more staff was needed. Always delicious, good-quality food. Service was good.

No vegan options on the menu, BUT they put something together for me. It was a decent size and well priced. I left there full and pleasantly surprised.

Wonderful breakfast and great service. Always popular! In fact, we are going back again this morning!
We had the English Breakfast but today we will try something lighter. Maybe the Petite Croque or the bigger, Croque Madame - French toast, bacon, cheese, fried egg, maple syrup and hash browns. Sounds yummy!

Nous avons pris notre brunch dans ce restaurant. Il était excellent! J'ai pris le maple Banger en demandant des oeufs brouillés à la place d'oeufs au plat et ça n'a pas posé problème.bLes produits sont très bons et bien travaillés. La serveuse est accueillante et souriante. L'endroit est joli et agréable, nous reviendrons sûrement y reprendre un breakfast avant notre départ. Il y a du choix et différents plats qui donnent envie et les prix sont tout à fait corrects!

Food-wise, they were wonderful! Portions were generous and tastes great. Great brunch restaurant in town.

We erased this restaurant off from the map for two years, and because this is a smaller city, and we did from time to time missing their food, so we may starting to dine there again. But this is the highest rating I could fairly give them, despite they do make great food.

Amazing food and friendly staff. I ordered the Croissant French Toast and the Waffle Benedict. Both were incredible.

Cozy spot for breakfast or lunch in Whitehorse. Nice atmosphere and fast service and friendly staff.

Had the maple bangers breakfast with a side of fruit. Best breakfast I've had in a while. The fried potatoes were crispy and delicious. I was so impatient that I stopped trying to get the Heinz Ketchup out of the bottle and just ate them plain! Eggs were perfectly cooked and the fruit was a bright perfect side. Large portions all around, couldn't finish it all. Highly recommend!

Finally we able to have a seat this time lol. We are new and love foods. The service is great and waitress so friendly. Cozy place for breakfast bt I wonder why open on 9: 30am when serves breakfast on weekend. The food is average but we would love to come again.

I would definitely recommend eating here while in Whitehorse. Pretty friendly staff, cute/nice decor, and the food was Spectacular and seemed healthy/organic! I had the BLT, probably one of the best BLTs I’ve ever had.

Best breakfast ever! Real potato’s with super slice bacon. Never been disappointed with breakfast or lunch for that matter. Only issue, it’s always jammed packed so you must get there before it opens for weekend Brunch. Lol

The server was very friendly and upbeat, we didn’t even have to ask for coffee top-ups, he came but several times to top us up! The food was fresh and tasty, the scrambled eggs were cooked just like my grandfather used to make them, I’ve not figured out his secret yet! The berries were very fresh as if they’d gone out back and picked them just for my breakfast. I can say I was extremely surprised at the quality of food from this little place and I found the prices to be reasonable.

Waited a long time for my food, which was mediocre. I had heard such great things maybe my expectations were too high. The service was slow the server seemed very uninterested in doing a good job. My cutlery was dirty, I had to wait another 15 mins before I could even eat my food. Not great probably won’t go back.

Food here was excellent and the service was great as well! We loved it so much that we went to visit two days in a row and tried their breakfast menu on the first day and lunch menu on the second day. Both breakfast and lunch was good and I recommend people to visit this while in Whitehorse!

Went there on a recommendation from the tour guide and we were very glad we did! The place was packed at lunch and Megan advised us there would be a 15 minute wait, which is not a big deal. In those 15 mins, she came to us twice to give us updates.

Being in the service industry I enjoy watching others work their craft and trust me this is a SUPERBLY well run establishment. With a full capacity, the two servers at the front and the two kitchen staff pumped out fantastic food at a very impressive pace!

Their signature burnt toast coffee is delicious and all three of us enjoyed our meals (I had their Classic Reuben). I later found out that Megan is the restaurant Manager-I can see why as she was completely in control and ensured she "touched" each table even though she was quite busy.

Found the restaurant very dirty.against my better judgement, stayed for lunch and payed the price with brutal food poisoning. Turns out same had occured to two friends in the past. I'll not be returning, ever.

I am shocked and disgusted how a small business owner will publicly shame and discriminate against potential paying customers. It’s as if she doesn’t know that the illegal govt mandates will end and she has alienated people who would support her business. This on top of stories from ex employees about how the owner would talk about customers, and restaurant hygiene. I won’t ever step foot in this place again. I feel horrible for the staff. They know.

Being in the restaurant and hospitality industry it’s astonishing to me the way these owners speak about potential paying customers and other businesses. Even if the food and service is good, I would not recommend going to an establishment like this where the owners trash other people and are extremely disrespectful. Lots of other great restaurants in town.

Toast was RAW! Literally my favorite kind of toast. Asked for it rare and they delivered. It first happened when I walked in the door. BIG whiff of burnt toast. It was the first time I knew. From that moment. It was extasy. Brekky is yum. Ohhh my god. Ohhhhh my god yes. That was when I knew, we would ALWAYS love this place. It was where we fell in love. 5/5

Tasty, busy on a Saturday mid-morning but thankful to the staff for putting us on a wait list and giving us a call when our table was ready. We'll be back.

The Waitresses were professional and quick. The menu was inclusive to all diets, had many options and was reasonably priced. Great place for breaky

Burnt toast cafe holds my worst experience at a restaurant. Terrible service, poorly cooked breakfast and such a memorable bad experience. I thought it was just bad Timing so we went and second time and had the same experience.

Fast service, yummy food. Liked that they had brunch and lunch options, prices are reasonable for the amount of food. Would come back next time I'm in Whitehorse!

I just want to eat the huevos rancheros all the time. Can it be in the menu all the time please? Otherwise no complaints from me. Food is very tasty and I like the soup specials everytime I go.

Used to be a favorite place, but was really disappointed when they closed for dinner service. It's quite pricey, but the food is great.

Food was nice and filling. However trying to know if they are open walking by or driving by is a mystery. Then sitting inside is depressing with the black walls.

The brunch is amazingly delicious. We were in town for the weekend and went here both Saturday and Sunday. The servers are friendly and attentive, and the crowd shows how popular this place is. 5 minutes after opening, the place is full, so get there right when doors open! I’m trying to decide which meals to recommend but can’t because it’s all good!

Delicious food and friendly service. Be prepared to wait a little bit as it does get quite busy. Also its only open for breakfast, brunch and lunch so get there early.

Welcoming atmosphere!
My breakfast was a huge portion, couldn’t finish it. But extremely delicious. Even though I enjoyed my stay next time I rather try a different cafe. Moreover the washrooms are super clean and comfortable.

We visited here for lunch. It was a busy time in the restaurant. The food was good enough for me. It's a place to try out for sure.

Really good food, but the service left something to be desired. We kind of felt like we were imposing, but the food quality was excellent.

If you’re looking for a place to grab breakfast look no further, this place is excellent. Upon entering you are greeted with nice wooden decor, a cozy environment. And a good mix of locals and tourists. The menu is small but quality. I’ve tried the huevos rancheros, the croissant French toast, the maple breakfast sausage as well as the croque madame. My favourite was the croquet madame but all are delicious! Prices are between 10-17$ for breakfast. Staff are friendly and attentive as well- I will be back!

Service is lackluster. From the start, there is no waiting area. With minimal seating, patrons were walking in and turning around and walking back out. No written waiting list. This resulted in mass confusion as people crowded in by the front door. No acknowledgement of new patrons walking in! After waiting and being seated, food came out fairly quickly. However, that's again where service stopped. No coffee refills, no check-ins to see how food was or if there was anything else they could get us. A shame really, because the food and coffee were not only delicious, but well presented. If it looks busy, avoid this place. You can get better service elsewhere. Maybe I'll revisit someday to see if things have changed. Maybe some staff training?

Best Lox bagel I have had in a while everyone else really enjoyed thier breakfast as well. Espresso was delicious as well. Very fast service

Burnt Toast Cafe lives up to its hipe. Not only is it a great place for tourists to hang out but also a nice place for lunch for people working around that area.
I had a veggie burger, truffle fries and hot chocolate. Let's start with the burger - it is for sure one of the best tasting vegetarian burgers I have ever had. The patty was delicious and not at all soggy which is an issue with most vegetarian burger patties. Hot chocolate was presented well though it was not as hot as I would like. Still it was a perfect drink for a cold snowy day.
Best one saved for the last - 'TRUFFLE FRIES' - These are the best truffle fries ever. You can not go to this cafe and not order Truffle Fries. They are a must. I was gonna give 4 stars due to not so 'hot' chocolate (bad with puns) but Truffle fries were out of this world. Just because of that this cafe deserves a 5 star.

It’s serve hot coffee although the barista not giving you warm vibe to comfort your days sometimes. They need to have more selection of coffee but overall is good coffee.

The place for chat, bit dirty not that neat but seems people hangout and meet up for brunch cause it’s right located next to the famous Klondike rib salmon restaurant

There’s not a lot of room, the place is small but still can catered group of 5/6 in one table.

They serve sandwich and western food the grilled cheese meat is bit pricey compared with other diner, but they serve good vegetarian burger

You need a breakfast? This ist the best Place in Whitehorse to get It! A good choice of different breakfast meals and also a good Coffee. You can find sweet to hearty breakfast.

I think had been our favorite place to eat on our long vacation in Canada. Delicious! Salmon wrap, beef baron, chili soup all fabulous!

Great service surpassed only by their great food. Our server was a little blond bundle of energy that whipped around serving ten-ish tables before a second server arrived for her 9: 00 a.m. Start. She was as efficient as any server I've ever seen while still maintaining a banter with her clientele. My eggs were not initially served to my liking so she had them replaced with perfection in short order.all the while smiling.

Tip her well, she deserves it.

This is a definite must go eatery when in Whitehorse. Great food with a great vibe. Most days busy for lunch but I can see why. Have eaten here in 3 occasions when in the Yukon. I make it a must go to when I do visit. Try it out and you won’t be disappointed.
