Southern Lakes Resort & Restaurant

We had such a fantastic holiday, what a stunning location. Oliver, and his team Dane, Michael, Matthew, we can't thank you enough for treating us to the best family holiday. The delicious food, great laughs, the snow mobiling, and the pinch me moment Renee and Glen and the dog sledding. The cabins were comfy and warm, and clean. Everyone should experience the Southern Lakes Resort at least once.

We originally booked for the Northern lights, which over 3 nights didn’t show up for us. But they became less important the longer we stayed. Thinking about this place makes me so happy! I will be back for sure. This was one of the most amazing and experiences/ stays I've ever had. Everything about this place is amazing, the wilderness, the people, the restaurant, the activities and the hire equipment available. The accommodation was exceptional, the on-site restaurant was delicious. The people who work and run the place, made it feel like I stayed with a whole bunch of friends. We were there over NYE and everyone hung out by a giant fire and had a glass of bubbles. It was lovely.

I have so much to write, as we did so much in the 3 days we stayed, but I'm short of time.

Biggest regret is we didn’t stay longer. As a traveling family we have moved on to Lake Louise. And the scenery was far better at southern lakes (as well as everything else) big mistake we didn’t stay longer and do more in Whitehorse. We didn’t even get to the main town, because we fell in love with our little village at Southern Lakes

It’s a stunning little collection of cabins on the lake, absolutely breath taking, picture perfect views of the Tagish lake and the mountains. It’s a scenic, nice little drive from Whitehorse. The resort has decent facilities for being so remote.

Some things I wish were better-

-I booked them for 2 nights as a part of our 5 days Yukon trip for my partners birthday. I booked every single detail I could way in advance for the entire trip, including a surprise slice of cake and a candle for his birthday dinner, which they confirmed they would be able to provide so I didn’t worry about making other arrangements. (It’s in the middle is literally no where)

After a wonderful day of dog sledding, We finished our dinner, and the cake/ candle never came. The birthday trip went very smoothly except of that one very crucial detail.

-There is nothing to do there but stay in your cozy cabin looking out the window, and the idea is to be comfortable and isolated with no internet, cell services, nothing. I wish they had a couch instead of the 2 smallish chairs so you can actually relax in that spot with your loved ones in-front of the large window with the view.

- Their restaurant and food services are Ofcourse limited and operate for limited time slots during the day with a decent but limited selection. It’s a good idea to bring your own supplies and food if you are up, waiting to view the northern lights/ sitting and having a conversation.they need to have at-least a small fridge in the cabin so the guests could store their food safely especially if your stay is longer than a couple of nights.

-there was no house keeping or replenishing the complementary coffee/ tea. For our entire stay, there were only enough for one time use for 2 people. We definitely needed more caffeine than that.

A big 10 star shout out to our dog sledge tour guide Renee, she was great and overall a wonderful human being. Being on the tour with her elevated that experience even more so, Thank you Renee!

Breathtaking views and beautiful place in the middle of nowhere! Super nice staff and friendly managers! The view over the river is amazing! Thanks for the beer and coffee!

My partner and I visited last September. Beautiful resort with breathtaking views of the lake and mountains. A very serene and quiet location with a sun deck where you can sit and relax and enjoy the views. The restaurant's food is good. It was our first visit, and we witnessed our first northern lights. The room was really large and had large glass windows to look out. From the interior, you could see the northern lights. My partner and I would love to return sometime.

It was our 1st time visiting, and we loved it! Great location, beautiful cabin and stunning views! Also, their restaurant offers amazing meals and offers the best views (probably the only restaurant in the Yukon with a mountain & lake view). Customer service was top-notch as well.

We stayed at one of the lakefront cabins and really enjoyed it. We loved being disconnected to fully relax, spend time reading books, and go for walks. The views are simply stunning.

Thanks guys for making our stay a perfect vacation! I am sure that we will be back.

The food is kinda expensive, for what it is, but the view is breathtaking. Small portions, but huge scenery.

Excellent 3 night stay in a cabin with kitchenette. A tranquil location that does all the heavy lifting with a snow covered lake, a commanding mountain backdrop and winter wonderland woods. Cabin was appropriately rustic and fairly well equipped, nice bathroom. Staff very friendly and willing to help. Don’t miss the dog sledding despite the price, nor Friday night hockey if it is on

One thing they (everyone online) don’t tell you about the lights - you need both clear cloudless skies as well as good light conditions to see the lights. On a cloudless night the lights could be weak and barely visible all night, or they could be strong for only a 20 minute window in the entire night (11pm-4am). Such was our experience, fortunately we caught the 20 minute window too, and it was breathtaking

Strongly recommend a stay here. Excellent rooms, cozy cabins but also modern. Great home cooked food by Bruno, dogsledding and other activities all within the resort and on the lake. Very kind and helpful staff
