YEU is a radical left wing organization that has abandoned all of their original principles for the new goal of pushing their political viewpoints onto the membership. Many of the staff have actively run for the NDP and they make no attempt to hide their bias. They seem to genuinely believe they are the morally righteous ones. And forget that literally everyone thinks they are in the right and they aren't special.
All you have to do is read on of their newsletters to see my point. If I were a white male I would immediately withdraw from this union as they have made it clear you are not valued as an individual and this union is actively working to suppress your voice.
They also recently posted on their Instagram feed promotional material to support the Islamophobic counter protest taking place on Sept 20th.
YEU has made it very clear they do not support protest or freedom of speech. They do not have any interest in anyone whose beliefs differ from their own.
While I am a former member there is not much I could do about it now, but I encourage anyone who is bothered by a union being so blatantly and unapologetically bias to withdraw and represent your own interests. Keep in mind these are your dues paying for activism unrelated to the role of the union. It's also time away from members who need support.
My one experience needing the union was absolutely horrific. I could not get anyone on the phone, and was actively ignored during my time of need. When a union strays from its original mission, the members will suffer.
