49th Parallel Café & Lucky's Doughnuts - THURLOW

Tried a piece of my girlfriend's donut, and it was nice and fluffy -not bad. The filling wasn't over-the-top, and it wasn't so much, that it stopped you from enjoying the fluffy donut itself. I'm pretty sure my girlfriend ordered enough sweet stuff, that if it weren't for all the walking we did, she'd be at risk for diabetes.

Also, this place gets EASILY packed. There's really no space for you to sit down, and even if you do, it's not quiet. If you step outside the shop space into the tower lobby though, they're generous to let you sit down for a couple minutes, before you move on about your day. It's much more peaceful, but I'm sure it can easily get overcrowded with patrons from the shop too.

I tried oat latte and donut today. Latte is fine but not too great, donut is too sweet for me. The location is convenient but service is slow at lunch time, very long queue, maybe I should avoid lunch time.

As a coffee lover I must say that the quality is very good and the cups have ar pretty, but whoever is serving you the coffee should show more interest and attention for the coffee they are serving, my espresso was served badly and it was spilled all over the cup, The two barista guys were leaning on the counter talking and not paying attention to what they were doing, sad visit at the end because the person who attended me at the cashier's desk, unlike the baristas, attended me with a very good mood and explained to me what coffee they were using that day. Given that I don’t much hang out at coffee shops, if I had to choose one in Vancouver, that would be it. All drinks are prepared with attention to detail, the Parallel coffee beans are beautifully selected and roasted, and the Lucky doughnuts are always a delicious addition. The shop is spacious yet cozy and the outside patio is wonderful.

Le café n'est pas le meilleur que j'ai bu à Vancouver, par contre le donut "Marple Nuts ring" est le meilleur que j'ai mangé! C'est assez petit à l'intérieur malheureusement nous n'avons pas eu de place pour nous asseoir lorsque nous avons voulu prendre un petit goûter, et avons dû nous installer dehors.

Always very busy, but we still love coming here when we visit Vancouver. The coffee is delicious. We also like that they have donuts, indoor and outdoor seating.

The doughnuts are really good but this is one of the slowest and most inefficient foodservice operations I have ever seen. I’ve never seen such a slow moving line or slow moving employees. It comes off as purposefully slow.

Try having one person just working the cash register and have one of the many other employees grab the doughnuts and coffee. There are plenty of employees so this shouldn’t be hard.

Couldn’t be any slower. Ordering successfully takes half an hour. Even after it takes so long to receive coffee. Staff just wiggle around. Won’t visit again. I appreciate all the hard working Starbucks employees.

I felt that the service could use some improvement. Despite the presence of numerous staff members, I found them to be disorganized and it took them an excessively long time to complete my order. Additionally, I observed one staff member with blue highlights scratching her scalp continuously and she began preparing food without washing her hands. They should address these hygiene issues with greater attention.

If you’re looking for really nice beans, this is your place as it is my all-time favorite espresso blend!

I come here for Lucky's Doughnuts! It's a bit pricey but I love their yeasted doughnuts since there's something about them that makes it unique compared to other donut shops around the area!

The pandemic really hit this place hard. I came here most mornings, it used to be BUZZING with people and laughter, fresh donuts and warm sandwitches. It has become SO SAD, no seating inside, and limited food options.

This review is more for the management team, since the Staff is always super lovely, they are the last support for this place I once liked so much. Now I go to Pallet a few blocks away.

Great tasting coffee and it definitely has a unique taste to it. Its aroma is also stronger than nearby cafes’ coffee. The baristas offer excellent service and the service is usually fast. However, there is also a lack of syrup flavoring for coffee here. The outdoor patio is heated, but a bit too much for my liking considering the outdoor temperature during fall in Vancouver

The best doughnut I've ever eaten, perfect chew whilst still light and fluffy. A well balanced sweet and complex taste, clearly a very accomplished dough. I went for the original and the glaze just finished it off. Had a black coffee with it which was really good, these guys know what they're doing. Went back on the day we were leaving and they had sold out of the original glazed, until next time!

Really liked the chai bistro doughnut from Lucky. Cappuccino was alright. On the small size, more used to Starbucks volume as we thought we’d try something different. Mocha was strong and good for a non caffeine person.

Donuts don't get much better than this. And their chocolate croissants are even better than French ones

The perfect place for a quick and dirty breakfast of coffee and dessert. Mouth watering freshly baked doughnuts, and an excellent selecting of coffee and tea. Prices are low and quality is high.

Nothing great. Doughnuts were saturated in oil. Coffee was just ok and no breakfast items available. They need to try better if they want to be seen as a premium product. Else is just over priced pretentious coffee and bad food.

I’d been craving for a doughnut for days and their Berry Berliner didn’t let me down. Their coffee is excellent too!

I got my favorite donut, a cruller, which has a really good sweetness and airiness to it. It was also decently big size-wise. The black Americano I got was also good; not too acidic/bitter. Lot of room outside to sit with 90 min of morning WIFI. Very clean.

Very knowledgeable baristas, willing to take their time to help you choose the perfect drink - they surely made me discover my summer favorite, the iced Venezuelan! The donuts are fresh and taste amazing, can’t go wrong with Lucky’s. Prices are rather high but it’s worth it.

I grabbed a cup of iced latte this Tuesday and lunch box with my friend, was going to sit in front of the coffee shop to enjoy both. But I poured my coffee by accident and all splashed on the table. I talked to one of the staff in the coffee shop. They sent a nice guy to clean up everything for us, give me a new mask (as the one I had also has coffee splashed) and made me a same new cup of iced coffee for free. They are such nice and thoughtful people! Highly recommended!

There was a flock, as in more than 7, flies flying inside the donut cabinets. They were also making stops on the donuts. It was very easy to see all that happening while lining up. Quite disappointing after walking a long way there just to be greeted with that sight. The staff don’t seem to be aware for some reason.

The iced mocha was amazing! Normally anywhere else they are extremely sweet, but this one was definitely not that sweet at all, it was so good.
And the donuts were absolutely amazing too. I love the lattes here too, so smooth you don't even need sugar.

I love the donuts here! They are my favourite donuts in all of Vancouver, I love how they have seasonal options and the lavender donut was my favourite when they had it. I’m not a huge coffee drinker and thought the coffee was okay.

When we went only the patio was open for seating. I liked at all the precautions they took including safe distancing and the shop appeared very cheap. The coffee was good although we had simple black coffees and it was a real treat having doughnuts. If the patio seating is jut quite good there are plenty of seating areas in the vicinity.

I drink 49th parallel all the time in Calgary and not once have I had a bad espresso. Fly all the way to Vancouver to be serviced the most sour cup of my life. Also had to order twice because they didn't have my complete order.

Not a huge fan of the americano as it seemed watered down. The barista also got my order wrong. Originally I asked for the iced mocha and received an iced americano instead. Very disappointed.

On the other hand, the lemon meringue donut was great which is why I rated this a 3 star. Very fluffy donut with a lemon meringue flavour to offset the sweetness of the donuts.

Le service est rapide et sans bavures, leur café latté est bon (comparativement à certaines grosses marques dans lesquelles j'ai constamment besoin de rajouter du sucre ou autre).
Et leurs donuts sont juste un régal.
Accès à une petite terrasse pour savourer tout ça même si de mon point de vue il est plus agréable de les déguster sur les bords de l'eau à quelques mètres à pieds.

Their iced Venezuelan is my favourite and I visited there frequently, I enjoyed it so much.

However, I went there this afternoon and purchased the coffees with my ApplyPay. I tapped my phone and I didn’t noticed that it was declined, I moved on and waited on the drinks in front of the counter.

The server called me back so told me it was declined and spoke to me rudely and told the barista stopped making my coffee like I was doing that in purpose and take an advantage to get free coffees.

Finally my the transaction went through and I grab my coffees and left but I feel hurtful from the server’s attitude.

I keep on seeing this place come up on my Instagram from different pages I follow so today while in the city I had to go here and check it out! Absolutely delicious pistachio doughnut! I wish I could have tried every single one. It was so fresh and soft! Latte was also very good.
It was busy, as it was morning but the service was efficient. Definitely want to go again and try some of their other menu items and other flavors of doughnuts!

EDIT: The next day, I arrived to work to a dozen of donuts delivered by 49th Parallel. An amazing surprise without any peanuts! Thank you so much!

Ordered 3 dozen donuts for our office online. The donuts are delicious however we specified in our order "NO PEANUTS" as we have several severely allergic employees, they paid no attention to this note and gave us 1 peanut donut per box. This lead us to regretfully throwing out the ones that were touching it (which was 2 per box plus the peanut one), so a total of 9 donuts were discarded for the safety of our employees due to their lack of attention to detail. When you're paying just under $120 for DONUTS, I cant say it was worth it when almost a quarter of the donuts had to be tossed.

Happened to find this place by chance (was walking to another place from our hotel) and gladly we did, this was our first stop each day before our travels through British Columbia. Coffee was great, breatfast servings full of taste and the doughnuts were excellent (old style salted caramel must be tried). Staff were super friendly as well.

Second strike on customer service/sales.
Awhile ago I popped in to finally try this ice cream sandwich. However I was shot down by staff because it was now 5: 04pm and that ends at 5, I guess.
Finally went back in the other day to grab a few donuts but was told I’d be paying 50cents/box of packaging?
I had asked cuz last time I got the donut home in a bag it was completely destroyed.
Ive worked in customer service and sales for a long time so I’ll let you know that this is not smart for your business.

Had the PB&J donut which was delicious.also had the breakfast sandwich special which included a english muffin sandwich with cup of coffee.shame they don't refill your coffee.it's busy, people are in & out but they were relatively quick with service and it was the perfect brekkie before my cycle ride around stanley park seawall.

Great spot. Good coffee and tea and a nice variety of baked goods and breakfast toasts/sandwiches. They carry lucky's doughnuts, including several gluten free options. They have some nice breakfast deals, such as tea/coffee and a doughnut for $8.50 or something

It can get pretty busy in the morning, but service is relatively quick.

The pastries are overly sweet and the coffee has too much cream. Disappointing considering all the good reviews.

No, sadly this experience was all too real. I ordered the french cruller and pistachio ring.both were lousy.
For coffee I ordered a gibraltar. The cashier told me the piccolo is the same thing. Cream, steamed milk, call it whatever you want, you put too much and it made my coffee taste like trash. But don’t worry, there’s clearly a market for trash, which is why your overly hyped hipster hotspot is still open. Buh bye

Absolutely LOVE this place! Came back and got a venezula coffee, raspberry cheesecake donut, and a doug breakfast sandwich. Everything was impressive! The coffee had the most beautiful art with a unicorn - totally made my day! Seeing how long the line was, he poured that art in record time! The donut WAS TO DIE FOR! Omg the perfect sweetness and texture. MUST TRY! The Doug was pretty good too. I would definitely go back and recommend their coffees and donuts.

We were here for lunch and there were many choices for panini sandwiches and the breakfast sandwiches were still available. Everyone found something to make them happy. The coffee was rich and flavorful as well. There were many seating options inside and out.

I like the ring donut. It is very good.
The creamy donut has a bit much cream for my taste.
I always have the combo, the coffee of the day is sort of ok. Not a big fan. I am sure they have the style I like in store.

Before it was $5. Tax included. At lease that s what I had been paying
Now it is 5.25 plus tax = 5.50 today:)

I will still go. But won’t be getting the combo. May be just a donut to go when I feel like it
