We frequent Abbotsford Recreation Centre (ARC). Being the largest Rec Center in Abbotsford has its pro's and con's. Pro's: Friendly Staff, Easy Check-in for members, reasonable prices, clean. Con's: Occasionally have to wait for a vacancy in the pool during public swims at peak times. Can be quite busy in gym's or weight room.
ARC has many amenities which means it has something for everyone including: Huge Weight Area, Walking Track, Swimming Pool, Hockey Rink, "Pond Skating Area", seniors area etc
We recently moved to Abbotsford from Alberta and I was very happy to find a gym close to home with childcare as well. The staff at the childminding facility are amazing and I feel great leaving my 1 year old son there.
Reason for only 3 stars is the gym is overrun by kids. They stand in groups around equipment and fool around. Seriously I wish staff would intervene, they are there to hang out and not work out. I heard a few other people complaining about the kids too. I can only come during childminding hours (5-7pm) so that kinda sucks.
Used to be my favorite gym cause it was affordable and I could go to the sauna. But, then they got rid of their student membership guess they don't like supporting students anymore
The gym is finally open! There is a maximum of 20 people in the fitness area but I haven't seen it at capacity yet. You are asked to wipe down your own machine and then staff give it a thorough cleaning once you are done. Spacing is good between machines and there's lots of sanitizing stations. ***Just remember you water bottle as all water fountains are closed. ***
I enjoyed all my visits there to pool and cardio equipment. I don't know if they can ever reopen the gym and cardio areas for one big red flag. We are supposed to wipe down the equipment after use, but half the people, after sweating and puffing, would just get up and move to another piece. Not cool in this covid19 times.
The centre had a recent major upgrade. It has a swimming pool, a big sports hall, gym rooms, running track overlooking the main hall and a couple of ice skating rinks, a great place for the families.
Need more time for adult basketball. 10pm -12pm is inconvenient for adults who have to work early the next day. Maybe find a better place for the kids blowup castle or pickle ball instead of the only indoor basketball court in Abbotsford.
The facilities are well-maintained. There are many options (for people of all ages) available for staying active. Activities range from independent workouts to individual trainer's support to group classes. The fees are reasonable.
Aqua-fit classes are great! Not only older people there either. The instructors are very motivating and kind. The pool area is clean, as well as the locker rooms. Hot tub and sauna are a great bonus for after a class!
It has all kinds of things and if you want to go for a walk it jog without having to shop but it is to hot, wet, or cold out they even have a indoor track. The grandkids had a blast at the birthday they attended there also.
Nice place in general but we had an incident today (Nov 27th, 2019) with ARC staff and that was not pleasant. My husband let them hold on to his driver licence about 5 pm while he borrowed one of the basketballs from their centre. About an hour later, about 6 pm my husband went to return the basketball only to find out that his licence is nowhere to be found. The ARC staff misplaced it, lost it, incompetent workers and now my husband has to drive without a licence, risk getting tickets because of it, replace his licence at his own cost, waste gas and time to go to ICBC to get his valid licence replaced, thanks to ARC. Very bad.
My son did Ice Skating and I had worst experience with one Instructor JAGJOT. She once written in report card that he can do next level 3 but when she saw me then she changed to redo the same lvl 2. Although my son did level 2 before and mistakenly my wife rebook level 2 again and this time she didn’t give badge. I informed about this to supervisor who gave my son lvl 2 badge last time even she convinced. I am dissatisfied with Instructor Jagjot Who gave my son lessons this time. Even when I said why didn’t you update about his performance she had no answer. She did not put efforts when we reserve time for kids with difficulty that we bring and do our best and she didn’t care. I have pain writing this.
Open play is awesome for my grandson who is 18 month old. It helps him to interact with other children. He loves to go there. Nana likes it because it tires him out in a safe place
Cold pools. We found out that Mission, Chilliwack, and even Aldergrove's outdoor pools were all heated. Drove to Mission this weekend and the pools are much better. The children's pool here is so tiny compared to Mission's and they're too cheap to even heat it up. The one in Mission is much larger, has more aquatic activities, and is warmed up. Really disappointed in Abbotsford's quality.
Wonderful! This recreation centre is well built with well knowledgeable staff that are on point in their positions and make registration and use easy as can be! The fitness area is divided in multiple areas focusing on cardio, strength conditioning and range of mobility exercises with a 3 lane oval track on the inside of all of them, giving a host of options for participants of all ages and capabilities. (Though it is a little confusing going from one to another) Meanwhile the aquatics area while small has a great hot tub with a view of a television, and a 25m lap pool and sauna for exercise and cool down. I had a wonderful time here and will surely be returning in the near future!
Lots to do here. Way more services than MRC. A little dated but well maintained. "Quiet swim" is nothing of the sort. I made a friendly complaint to the lifeguard who paid no attention. Front reception was empathetic though. Provided alternate times to come when it's not busy. Kinda tough getting up at 5am but she was right. Not busy.
Playing pickleball, one cannot help but notice how immature some of the people who play are. These are men and women in their 50s and up. A handful are cheats. It’s kind of pathetic.
Used to be amazing, but now with the new management in the last year it isnt so great anymore. The ice tends to be sloppy at best, always choppy and full of ice bombs. The weight room is unmanaged all together. It is messy, half the equiptment is broken and there are often small children playing on the machines after 9pm. There are never any trainers around anymore and as a result chaos exists.
Horrible customer service. Waited 20 mins in line for two people to be helped. Then when we finally made the front of the line lady ignores me and my kids to help someone else who wasn't even in line. Waste of time.
