Abilities Neurological Rehabilitation

Recently, I had the misfortune of suffering a traumatic brain injury as a result of a home-shop accident.

My first memory of that event, was waking up 48 hrs later, in the Acute Care Ward of Surrey Memorial Hospital, intubated and festooned with all manor of intravenous and electronic monitoring leads. I was there for fourteen days. I was released on Christmas Eve.

Besides the care I have since received from my wife, the most significant part of my recovery since my release, has been as a result of my time spent with Jessica Chow, of “Abilities Neurological Rehabilitation”.

Miss Chow worked with me in formulating a personalized rehabilitation programme - complete with hand drawn diagrams, that my still damaged brain could comprehend. In addition to strengthening exercises, Jessica showed me how each of several balancing exercise was best executed to help me improve my stability. And she threw in a heart strengthening aerobic component, in order to speed my recovery.

I have since learned that recovering from a significant brain impact injury, can be a slow and challenging process. The progressive rehabilitation programme that Jessica Chow, both initially and subsequently developed for me - and mandated that I follow…everyday, is promised to have me recover from my injury in the shortest time possible.

I am inspired to give five stars to this impressive, specialized, institution and to the considerable skills and respectful client care offered by Physiotherapist-extraordinaire, Jessica Chow.

Rachel is always so kind and so much fun! Ryker loves going here and having Rachel run him daily obstacle courses and so much more! Also Jessica who first started out with Ryker the staff here is all amazing! Highly recommend this clinic

For more than a year with your physiotherapist Jessica, at Surrey branch, she has been instrumental in helping stabilized my signs / symptoms of my Chronic Progressive Parkinsons disease. Needless to say, we played spike ball, perform the basics of boxing / mma or kickboxing. She has been a professional, intelligent, kind and respectful to her client. Furthemore, she has emphathy and handle her patient to the best of her capacity. Lastly, she is commendable.

Jessica Chow is knowledgeable, personable, energetic and professional, she encourages and challenges me through in-person physiotherapy and has helped me build an at-home exercise program for my days off. Amma is very lovely and friendly therapist assistant so I am recommend everyone to work with her because she has a good experience with autism children.

I and my daughter was really impressed with Perochi's knowledge and skills. She knows kids and setup boundaries for them so you can definitely see the progress even in one session. We are so happy to have a chance to have her as a therapist.

We use the OT services through abilities. We have been attending sessions over the last few years. We find the therapist to be fantastic and relevant for our child. They are flexible.

I find that our therapist works from a strength-based approach and is very empowering for our child.

COVID changed our appointments from in-person to teletherapy and the transition was smooth. We have decided to stay with the online visits, although we can now book in person if we choose.

I took the ferry across from Victoria to see Sherri a Speech Pathologist at Abilities Rehabilitation. I have been experiencing excess muscle tension in my neck when speaking which was causing me a lot of pain. After only spending a few minutes with me Sherri was able to offer me great insight into my issue that I have been struggling with for nearly 4 years now. She was very professional and thorough and I would highly recommend her to anyone. I am taking the ferry back to Vancouver this Friday to see Sherri again, and I believe she is truly going to help me turn this problem around. I also had dealing with the front desk staff who were extremely friendly and helpful. I highly recommend the services Abilities Neurological Rehabilitation has to offer.

Have been coming here for services for our child for 5 years. While there has been some turnover of therapists through the years (seems common in this industry) we have appreciated the knowledge & professionalism of the staff. Child and family centered, know how to handle all the paperwork involved to make life simpler for caregivers. When there wasn't a therapist on staff to meet the needs of our child, they went above & beyond to suggest appropriate service for us elsewhere.

I am a singer and was having major throat issues that prevented me from being able to sing. Shirley showed me exactly what was wrong with my throat and more importantly showed me how to fix it! I am back to singing again and it is so great to have my voice back!
