I’ve been taking my dogs here for 3-4 years now. Matthew is really a great vet. I no longer live in the area but still drive 1hr to see him for non emergent care for my dogs.

Only thing is they are more on the pricey side, but good vet care is hard to find so I think it’s worth it

We are visiting from out of town, and needed to have some stitches removed from our dog who had had an operation 12 days ago. When we phoned around to a number of vets n Vancouver, they all stated that they would have to conduct a full exam since they didn't know the dog. She just had a full exam since she had just been operated on, can't you call her vet I would ask? Apparently not. I finally called Acadia Veterinary Clinic who where very helpful. They called our vet for our dogs records, were able to removed the stitches based on an Exam Recheck which makes sense since Dr. Mathew Korthauer had to exam the area and remove the stitches. We were very happy with the service provided at Acadia.

Was recommended by a friend and alternate vet clinic not accepting new clients.

Truly the best. Reasonable prices, lovely staff, flexible with scheduling, appreciated their approach to care.

Really good experience each time I've went. Good prices for the area and the Vet really explained the issue and didn't try to upsell anything. My go to local vet now.

Great vet clinic, helped with the final sign off for our dog to be transported.

Thanks again 5/5

We've gone here multiple times over the past 2 years. Today was first time we got to go inside during the annual check up. I was very unimpressed. The vet and I believe a majority of the staff has changed. The vet seemed very inexperienced. He seemed hesitant around my dog. The "annual wellness exam" involved him taking a quick listen to his heart rate and just looking at my dog and saying "he looks fine". He didn't touch his joints, check his teeth, ears.nothing. My dog like most isn't the biggest fan of the vet and can get grumpy and vocal. The vet didn't seem comfortable trying to give him his shots and gave us some calming medication and to come back later in the day to try the shots again.

Not sure how this was handled in the past but the previous vet who was there never needed to medicate my dog for an exam and shot. Overall disappointed and will be searching for a new vet as I no longer feel confident in the service.

Caring and responsive team. Very accommodating to our dog, who’s anxious about visiting the vets. They’ve also been super helpful with advice over email as well. Thank you!

This is a very friendly clinic, with kind staff and an amazing doctor. They are upfront with treatment options as well as costs, rated from low end to higher end, or need, depending on unexpected circumstances. I'm grateful to have a clear understanding of what's ahead. Thank you

I first came to Acadia because my cat was vomiting on a regular basis and scratching herself raw. The previous vet I went to never offered me any explanation or solution to the problem, except doing blood work, steroids and antibiotics each time I brought her in. And when I asked how I can determine the cause of the itching, the previous vet said I can do a $800 allergy test to find out which I later found out it is completely not reliable and can have a lot of false positive results.

It was Dr. Korthauer who actually helped and started my cat on food allergy trials. Which I understand is a long, frustrating, and annoying process with very little money to be made. Whenever I think my cat might need extra diagnostic test to rule out other problems, Dr. Korthauer would calmly reassure me her symptoms are consistent with food allergies and suggest to wait and see if it improves. He never once tryed to push for unnecessary tests or procedures. Whenever my cat have a new or emergent problem, the Acadia team have always been able to fit me in for appointments and I feel like I can give them a call about anything. I trust Dr. Korthauer and Acadia team completely with my pet's care.

They are very good with diagnosing with your pet but they are starting to get a little more expensive

Initial visit was good. Very communicative. Ensure that you are clear about your expectations for service and they deliver on level of care.

Acadia has been great! More than great! I know about this place because I work just next door, but Dr Matthew and his team are really reliable and knowledgeable. Whenever my dog has an issue, I would just bump next door and if they are available, they’ll just chat with me and even give me some advices. Most of the time, I bring my dog in for just a nail trim, but even then, they’ll go out of their way to ensure that my dog is doing great. I really love their services and I strongly recommend anyone who has any questions, I literally mean any questions regarding their pet and most likely, Matthew has an answer for you, you’re in safe hands! Thank you Acadia for always looking out for my dogs!

Wow, I can’t say enough good things about the level of care and attention. I have a brand new kitten who started experiencing seizures and they were able to see me immediately and helped me understand all the possibilities affecting my little guy. We feel so taken care of. Thank you!

Small clinic with good and kind staff. We had to say goodbye to our cat of 15 years here, and they (incredibly) made it a warm and loving experience.

I'm not sure if I should say that this vet clinic's biggest concern is taking care of animals or charging as much as possible his clients to keep their business running. I went there for a vaccine follow up and came out with a bill of over $ 350, claiming that they had to do a general a blood test done to see if she would be ready for spay. My little kitten is only 4 months old and the vet wants to spay her in two weeks: before his paternity leave. He is totally rushing things to make some money. It's pathetic.
Also, I asked them to clean my cat's ears which had a bit of residue: they didn't clean it but charged me for a product to wash her ears myself. A shame! I absolutely not recommend this clinic!

I am done with this clinic. 2 out of 2 times I have taken my cat this clinic they have managed to add extra costs to the visit. If they were more honest about estimated costs I wouldn’t mind spending the money on my cat’s health. But the second it got a little out of hand, I was charged $370 when I was just expecting 2 vaccine shots at an estimate cost of $100-120.

Since I can’t reply the old fashioned way here’s my response to Acadia’s reply: let me be clear to everyone reading this: my cat didn’t have any complications, nor any signs of possible complications. So the $370 charge came out of nowehere, and no, Acadia didn’t warn us that this charge could even be possible, the visit was expected to be around $100, and I have emails that prove this. Let me also add that on my last visit we asked the clinic to clean the cat’s ears but they just sold us an expensive bottle of ear cleaners, knowing that we had no idea of how to do this ourselves since we had only had the cat for a couple of months approximately. Same thing happened when we asked them to clip the cat’s nails on the first visit, they tried to sell us clippers.

Such a lovely staff. They did incredibly thorough work and our dog loves coming here. She had to get a tooth pulled and they called to check in the day after, and sent us a card. They did a low to high pricing so we were not blindsided by anything. We have an 8 month old golden retriever and trust Acadia very much with her!
05 February 2021 11:01
Fast service, friendly staff, but the vet upsold me on a medication which upon even cursory research does nothing for my pet's problem, in fact nothing for my pet's species at all and has scarce evidence it works in anyone at all. Get a second opinion or do some research before trusting medication recommendations from this veterinary office.

Acadia clinic is not upfront about costs, there is no fee estimate provided before treatment. Prices are also hugely inflated compared to other vets I have been with in the city - additional treatments are also pushed or carried out without prior consent to up the cost.  I was not even shown an invoice at payment during my last visit, only given the card machine to pay. Customer service used to be great here, but it has gone downhill in the last couple of years.  I have found another vet now who are transparent about fee estimates over the phone during booking.

I saw Dr. Matthew from October last year, till late January of this year (2020). Sadly, I lost my boy Pokey, and while I dreaded this event for years and tried to prepare myself, it was definitely the hardest experience of my life. I will never be the same. Dr. Matthew K handled the euthanasia so well. He was very compassionate and allowed me time to grieve, and in no way did I feel so rushed. It probably took me 2 hours to allow him to go to sleep (an hour past my booked time), and god knows how long after to leave. I called the clinic probably 15 times to "talk about making the decision, " like a crazy person I'm sure, as it was so hard to make the choice to end his suffering. It seems, we all just want "more time. " Point being, the staff members were so helpful and (again) compassionate, even after the appointments regarding Po's cremation. Before, and after (the loss) the staff were so warm!
Prior to losing my boy, he went deaf due to a terrible ear infection. I saw 3 previous vets at different clinics, who all gauged me on prices, about $ 1000.00 on treatment. And his ears were still bad. Dr. Matthew's treatment actually restored his hearing (like a miracle) and the total cost was less than $ 100.00.
I'll admit I've been a picky man with vets. I loved my dog so much and always wanted the best care. Either I had "one bad experience' with a vet or staff.ie 1 year after going there, where I had rude customer service experience.or I felt "taken on vet bills" with previous clinics (I have about 5 other negative Yelp reviews up on other vet clinics).
Point being, Acadia was just amazing. The doctors knowledge, you can simply trust. They were the best clinic I saw in Vancouver. And, there prices were fantastic as well.

I noticed my dog had a tick and called and they got him in the same day to get the tick removed and medication started. Due to COVID they took extra precautions and although I waited outside for the appointment. The vet (Matthew) called me and to discuss the exam/treatment and answered all my questions. I received another call the next day to check in as well. I am very appreciative of the care from the vet and staff!

After a nearly traumatic experience with another vet, I was needed to find one I could trust. Dr. Matthew Korthauer is the kindest vet I’ve ever had. He immediately approached very hard ideas such as cancer with compassion and patience. He’s also very considerate about cost and how best to treat your pet based on ruling out health factors and maximizing procedures. The clinic is so kind, Tori is very sweet, and they have a truly wonderful routine of calling you to get updates on your pet. I’ve never felt so humanized by a vet clinic before, I didn’t feel so scared to ask dumb questions which I had been shamed from doing previously. I am a helicopter cat mom for sure and Acadia has made me feel safe leaving my little girl with them and any decisions I make are for the best. My kitty will likely be undergoing more procedures and I don’t feel so scared anymore since I trust them so much. Definitely recommend, your pet will be in good hands!

I adopted 2 diabetic cats from an animal shelter, these cats are like my kids and I want only the best for them. I was recommended Dr Fraser by the shelter I adopted from. Dr Fraser was everything I could want in a vet and more, a true animal lover and you could see his expertise and knowledge in how he handled animals. Unfortunately, he was living out of town and commuting everyday so the practice was sold to a different owner.

Under new leadership, this clinic has gone very downhill and I would not recommend to others. I order diabetic food in specifically through a supplier for my cats through Acadia, and have for years. With this new leadership, they now expect credit card info upfront and payment upfront before an order is placed.

I dont feel comfortable providing my credit card information on the phone to a different receptionist each time, and when that concern was voiced, I was told they will not be able to place the order if I do not give that information upfront on the phone. Since this change, I will not be ordering there anymore.

Recently, they have also posted some very questionable photos to their Instagram account depicting animals on an operating table while an aide/nurse takes a picture of the surgeon operating to advertise. This honestly disgusts me. Focus on the surgery, not your instagram account! Imagine this is your Pet, and you're sitting in the waiting area worried sick about your pet, while they take photos of your unconscious pet being operated on in the back to advertise on Instagram.

Finding a good vet clinic you trust can be really difficult. My dogs are like my kids and I want them to receive the best care they can get. After many bad experiences at other Vancouver clinics I decided to go to Acadia with my concerns. Not only was the vet I saw great, but he listened! Its so frustrating when vets are close minded and don't try to work with you. He understood my concerns and gave me options regarding an issue that another vet told me could never be solved and my pup would always be sick (news flash my dogs issue cleared up completley). Ive seen three different vets at acadia and each one of them have been phenomenal. Nice change to also work with vets who dont condone obesity in pets and who also respect your decisions on not spay/neutering your dogs.

Also adding that receptionist staff are so kind and welcoming! Ill always take my dogs there from now on! Definitely recommend.

These vets are great. Not as reasonably priced as Doc Murray, but caring and pragmatic. I had my dog diagnosed and humanely put to sleep and Dr. Fraser was so compassionate, yet realistic and made the terrible decision much easier. My son and I were left alone with our dog to say goodbye in a very respectful and kind way. Now I take my cats and find them very helpful indeed!

This clinic is awful, I took my kitty there and they couldn't even draw a blood sample for a routine checkup. They gave me a sedative to give to him and booked me an appointment for the same time the following week, when I arrived for the follow up they were closed for the long weekend. So not only did I pay for sedatives and give them to my poor guy for no reason, but he had to be put through the stress of a car trip for nothing. This is just not ok, and very unprofessional. Ill post a follow-up to this review if I get a refund or partial refund, but I won't be taking my kitty back to Acadia.

They have since given a partial refund. There were more avaoidable communication errors through that process, but in the end the office manager did the right thing.

Expensive compared to others in the area. Insisted our shitsu wear a muzzle when no other clinic or groomer has ever had an issue with her, before or since. We now take our dog elsewhere.

First Visit - impressed with the time the vet (Fraser) spent answering my questions and not overselling.

Moved to Kits from downtown and brought our terrier for a check up and vaccine boosters. The Vet we saw was Jordan and she along with the rest of the team there was fantastic. They know their stuff, don't recommend unneeded treatments and they even called back the next day to check on the dog after his vaccines. We have seen multiple vets over the years as we moved around Vancouver and I can safely say Acadia stands out.

We have gone to them for our Pug, it's a great team Dr. Davidson is a fantastic, caring and honest vet. Trustworthy and great care.
23 February 2019 6:09
Amazing staff! The vets always explain exactly what is going on with your pets and patiently discuss treatment options. They send reminder emails and follow ups which is super helpful.
14 February 2019 18:38
Dr. Fraser Davidson is the best vet I've ever used in decades of pet ownership. He is extremely experienced and conservative in his suggestions for treatment, which I appreciate. He has efficiently taken care of some difficult issues for us and I can't recommend him enough. He handles our pets beautifully and takes the time to explain everything to us in detail.
29 January 2019 4:45
Dr. Davidson is compassionate, kind, thorough, patient, experienced, supportive, approachable- by far the best vet that we have ever had!
