Ajishou Brentwood Japanese Restaurant

The manager took our order then forgot to forward it to the kitchen. Oyster motoyaki has no oysters instead a slice of mushroom was sneaked in, rice dishes and salmon carpacchio were drowned out by too much sauce and onions. Service was poor with servers not knowing who ordered what. By the way they offered a single serving of ice cream for the delay. My kids asked to eat at McDonald's after we left Ajishou

Went there yesterday, had the famous $9.99 lunch special! Food is abundant and delicious, great meal deal for a quick lunch!
Few suggestions: as it is already a rice bowl, why comes with an extra sushi? Though the seared fish on top is delicious I would prefer a piece of tempura or 1 spring roll or gyoza (so we end up ordered extra plate of gyoza)
Will be back again!

I went to ajishou Japanese restaurant In Brentwood Mall today and it was very good service and the food was very good and very delicious especially the tempura and the sushi. The fish was very fresh and highly recommended

My boyfriend and I went here for dinner around 7pm and we received terrible service.

We waited 20 minutes for our sushi to arrive (after our appies) while the table of 6 next to us got their entire order before us, even though they arrived AFTER we made our order.

The waitress, I think her name was Fanny, didn’t bother to check up on us and I had to flag her down as she was more concerned with the other tables. She was completely ignoring us and would tend to every other table instead. When I asked her about our order she was dismissive and unapologetic, she didn’t make eye contact and waved me off like I was overreacting, going as far as to coldly tell me the chefs “already know”.

I tried to express my complaints to another server who delivered our food and instead of being apologetic about the wait all she had to say was “thank you” before quickly leaving us.

After we finally got our sushi, we ran out of tea and they were servicing every other table and refilling everyone else’s tea without bothering to check on us or even offer to refill it.

Then when it came time to pay the bill we were asked if we “got everything” in a very sarcastic tone. When I didn’t tip, our waitress finally found the concern to ask what was wrong. I expressed how terrible the service was and she tried to explain that it was very busy and out of their control, but there’s really no excuse when the table of 6 that was seated after us got all of their food before us. She had no response to this and just left with the bill we paid.

The service we received tonight was highly unacceptable as the price point of the food here should reflect the service that every customer should be given equally. I will not be returning to this location and will advise everyone I know not to be giving their business here, which is a shame because I was introduced to this place during a work lunch and was initially impressed by how good the food was.

The management of this establishment needs to train staff better in giving equal customer service and not just to those who they think will pay more/people they prefer.

If you have ever longed for the feeling of being at an airport - getting lost, low quality food, and high prices included - this is the place for you!

The good:
- The staff were very nice and attentive.
- The salmon and tuna nigiri had okay portion sizes and were a nice texture

The bad:
- Saba nigiri is normally put through a 'quick-pickling' process to remove any bitterness or fishy flavour. It can be hard finding the right balance so it's not too sweet or vinegary. In this case, it didn't seem like it had gone through the process, or maybe not long enough. It had a bitter flavour, unfortunately. Saba is one of my favourites and I was pretty disappointed.
- The shishamo karaage was unfortunately also a bit bitter, and tasted like either the oil it was fried in was old or had smoked a bit.
- My boyfriend's roll had rice IN IT! Like it had been used as filler to thin out the crab.
- His other two dishes - chicken yakitori and eggplant - were super bland

The ugly:
- As I was just settling on the word 'airport' to describe what the decor reminded me of, my boyfriend said he felt like he was at the airport. So I think it's safe to say it looks exactly like you'd expect an airport sushi place to look. This feeling was further enhanced by how fricking hard it was to find.

I went there today for the bite of Burnaby. Skip to the part why I rate so low. The server dropped off 2 udons (ebi udon and nabeyaki udon), I odered nabeyaki udon and a dragon roll. When they serve the udon, we didn't really think twice about the extra Udon. THIS SERVER CAME BY OUR TABLE AND ASKED HOW COME WE GOT 2 UDONS. She was super rude and asked us why didn't we say anything about the extra Udon. We said that you guys served it. Then, she took away the nabeyaki udon and the tempura set. Side note: By the time she came by, we had already started eating the food.

Here just some food for thought: why would you take away the food that your customer already touch? Are you going to serve the next customers with that? Also, you can be more polite if you do want to take away and also take away the ebi udon not the nabeyaki udon.

This is definitely not a place to go again.

We had a family lunch here where we all ordered something different, and everyone enjoyed their dishes.

The fish tastes really fresh and good quality, which felt like it matched the price.

They serve blue fin tuna Toro which is pretty amazing, suggests they're aiming to serve a higher calibre of sushi. There were definitely a few nicer dishes that I want to come back for to try.

It wasn't very busy for lunch, which may be because it's new and a little tucked away on the second floor.

The service was quite attentive and the ambience was relaxed.

Overall there was nothing to complain about. We will definitely be back.

I'd recommend giving this place and chance, they're new and tucked away so there may be some initial operational hiccups, but with some support and patience I think they could really shine.

Food and atmosphere is nice. Service is very bad. Avoid Frank. Missing many dishes from order.

Honestly the most delicious Japanese food I have had. Reminds me of the times I went to Japan. Staff are incredibly helpful and nice. Can't recommend it more.

I ordered the $30 set and overall everything tasted alright. The highlight of my meal was the dragon roll. As I took the last bite of the sushi roll, i bit on something hard. I thought it was a shell of some sort however, as I took it out i realize it was a piece of BROKEN PLEXIGLASS. I immediately told the server and to show her sincere apology, she gave me an extra scoop of ice cream - like that would make the situation any better. The manager/supervisor didn’t come by and apologize for what had happen which I think is so unprofessional. Imagine if it was a child, the child could have been seriously hurt.

I give this place 1 star for the serves being good and friendly. The nigiri I had was good and nice size, however the chicken yakitori was bland and same with the grilled eggplant. The grilled eggplant tasted like water. The most shocking and disappointing was the rainbow roll! Only 2 types of fish, there was barely any crab and looked like rice was rolled into it for filler, there was also this weird soy paper in-between the filling and rice? Even the rice tasted different. Probably the worst sushi I have had, over priced, and mediocre quality.

Myself and my spouse went for bite of Burnaby and the restaurant was steady but not crazy busy. It took a while just for someone to take our order and even longer for the food to come out. After sitting for 2 hours, we didn't receive some of the items we had ordered but decided to call it. The restaurant was so hot and we were getting cranky. There was no explanation from staff about why the food wasn't coming and no service in terms of offering a free drink or a percentage off. Very disappointing experience and from what we were able to eat, it wasn't good enough or at a price point that we would ever go back.

The grand opening kinks have been ironed out. Service is better and faster than when it first opened. Food selection is decent more than a regular sushi joint.
Lucky for us we were able to roll in and get a table at 730pm on a Sat night. Usually have to make a reservation. The tartare toro (different didnt taste the mango heavy soy had tako - octopus bits in too) and nabeyaki udon (standard could do wiyh a bit more flavour) below.

Excellent quality, nice ambiance and friendly staff. No need to go downtrown for high end Japanese food. 100% recommend!

Small portions and high price. Low quality sashimi and the sauce was strong. Service was slow, we end up cancelling one of our orders due to additional wait.

Arrived late, greeted nicely, seated by window, all pleasant but the little things need polish.
Starting with the fact the photos on the menu were not of the same presentation as the dish that arrived, even though it was good.
Our server presented our final dishes wearing cleaning gloves as she was doing her "close up" duties.
Yes, out of the way place, in the middle of it all, that needs a polish.

This place is very good, food, atmosphere and service is about 5 stars. Staff is friendly and location is very nice. A definite must try at the Amazing Brentwood. I really liked the cold noodle soba.

This restaurant has fresh ingredients, great food and great plating. Best sushi I've had in Canada!

Amazing authentic Japanese cuisine. All the servers are so friendly and kind as well. They treat you as if you are part of their family. After an deliciously prepped meal that looked as if it was a piece of art they brought us complimentary ice cream.
I can say enough about the amazing experience I have had while dining at this establishment.
After 2 outings my best friend and I decided decided to make it a regular place to go after pay day.

The place is quite grand; the restaurant looks really nice. And so does the cost of the meal. The quantities of the food are small, and taste very lackluster. It also doesn't help that my friends and I had to figure out who ordered what meal, because our server kept mixing up our orders. Note: *the restaurant wasn't busy at all*
