Akoya Nails Spa

Been twice. They nickle and dime you with “extra charges” they don’t tell you about in advance. Charged $20 to take off a small amount of residual nail from a previous set. Other salons they include this in a full set of nails. $89+ for the set. Didn’t tell me in advance that they’d be charging extra. Sloppy application of colour too this time. First time I went they also charged extra because they had to redo my colour because they didn’t match it properly— what a way to gain a new customer!

I had a really troubling experience at Akoya today. For about 20 years, I've been getting acrylic nails with a gel overlay just on one hand (for playing guitar). Moved to White Rock recently and tried Akoya - first time was great. Went back today for a fill. Without consulting me, the technician decided to do gel instead of acrylic (even though I booked acrylic) - she told me later through another technician who was translating that that was because they thought it looked like I'd had gel before. Then, each time I had to put a finger in the heater to "cure" the nail, the burning sensation was unbelievable. I would snatch my hand out and was told this was normal and to put my hand back in. Each finger it went like this - searing pain, pull my hand out, put my hand back in, not too bad after the initial burn. By the third finger I was hesitant to put my hand in and the technician was literally forcing my hand in and holding it there. I asked if this was normal and they said it was, but I've since checked with other people who get gel and they say no, that's not normal.

The kicker to all this is that the final product is really not good - each nail is a different length, angular edges (even though I asked for - and have always gotten - rounded nails for my guitar technique), and they look yellow (see photo of the nails, taken 30 minutes after leaving the salon.)

I can't recall posting a negative review publicly for anything before, but I feel like I need to let other people know to be careful. Besides the experience being painful, I don't know how I'm going to be able to transition the nails back to what I need.

Awesome place! The ladies here always take care of me and my mom. I have been coming to the place for the past three years and never have been disappointed.

My mom and I went in there yesterday. I got a normal mani/ pedi using my gift certificate from Christmas that they didn’t accept and said it expired. My mom got a mani/ pedi with and her gel nails filled and a small waxing. They charged $25 for the wax! They charged us altogether $163! She had been saving up points there for months and when she went to use them it said she only had 1 point! They kept switching technicians and seemed very rude. The lady at the front pretty much ignored one women who walked in to ask if they were busy. I’m never going back and neither is my mother. What a waste of money!

Last visit was so disappointing! Started off with one tech then got switched over to a new employee who was so slow. Then when I went to pay using a 5% birthday discount was told it expired 2 days after my birthday. I explained that day was my birthday so I couldn’t come in and at least give a weeks grace for this. Overall so irritating. Have been a regular for years

Visited this salon for the first time today, my sister and I got lucky booking an appointment one hour prior. Emily did my pedicure and gave me an amazing leg and foot massage! Already looking forward to my next visit here.

Me and friend visit yesterday for nails extension it was amazing however, we also got face wax. The lady who did wax was not really so good. She stretch my face with wax strip. Both of us got rashes on our faces. I am so disappointed with her service.she even did not clean wax from
my face properly.

I heard my sister recommend this nail salon. Emily and other ladies are so nice and professional. The store is so clean and beautiful. A big thump up

Multiple bad experiences - Both with waxing and nail services here.

My nails were rushed and done badly, and none of the utensils were cleaned after they were used on me. I was cut several times by the technician. Without asking me what I wanted they automatically started cutting off my long natural nails for acrylics. Within a day the nails looked rough and faded. Came back to get them redone because I was very dis satisfied.

Waxing was rushed and I was not treated as a priority. Technician made rude comments about my body and had me in ridiculous positions. I was left in the waxing room alone multiple times with the door open. Felt very unprofessional and I felt awkward and uncomfortable.

I would not recommend.

First off I waited forever in the pedicure chair. I was having shellac on my toes and nails and it was the worst nail job I have ever had. The lady only put 1 coat of shellac on my nails which most places do at least 3. Not even one week and both toes and nails look terrible! Here is the kicker it was $90.00! DO NOT WASTE YOU TIME AND MONEY!

I was at White Rock Nails Spa in mid September to get a manicure, pedicure and waxing of my eyebrows, lips & chin. One week afterwards I got an enormous ingrown infectious pimple on my chin. I went to see my family doctor and he told me that I got this from contaminated wax or cloth stripper. I would not recommend for people to go to this establishment because I think the technicians does not sterilize their tools or reuse cloth strip from previous clients! Very disappointed for lousy services and filth. Envy Nails or White Rock Nails will never see me again! I have to include a star in order to post but you do not deserve any! Boo to you!
