Amherst Veterinary Hospital

This place is exactly what you hope for when you take your kitty for that first exam at a new vet! My 13yr old cat has been experiencing different issues through the years as he ages. He's had some upper respiratory issues on and off for a number years. With all previous vets giving different ideas and temporary fixes that always end up being costly, but never really an answer. Recently, he started having a bit of a wheeze, but otherwise was acting normal. Our usual vet is a 45 min drive, so I wanted somewhere close incase it was a possible airway obstruction.

Every veterinary office I called said they weren’t taking new patients and didn't have room even if it was an emergency.
Amherst has great ratings and reviews for dog care, but I didn’t see any for cats which always worries me. Wanting a clinic that really understands cats, whilst also treating my lil man with the best care, I can say I’d trust any of the wonderful staff we met today with him! The kind tech that answered the phone was the only person I had called today to ask me what the issue was regardless of them also being fully booked!

She told me they had a few cancellations so they could book us in as new patients and get us in that day (usually around a week process)! All the techs are so sweet, they seem genuinely excited to help as soon as you walk in. The vet that did the exam was amazing, not only listened, but gave lots of information and feedback to any questions we had and made us feel more at ease than our previous vet ever made us feel in the past year. After a full exam her diagnosis is that he is in fact just old and chunky, his odd breathing is from the weather drying up his nose a bit and he's most likely just snoring like any old man would. Still she asked us to send any videos we catch of his sounds just incase it could be an underlying issue.
Just being open to looking further into our concerns without us even having to ask, giving us real answer instead of an endless vet bill and getting us in on such short notice shows the love and care they have for the work they do! Im so happy to know good people like this are still out there? Thank you for taking wonderful care of Mr Boo!

Always exceptional vets that cater to your pups needs and make their fear of going to the vet less scary. The staff is super helpful and friendly. And my fur baby no longer goes into full panic when visiting the vet due to the patience and kind nature of the vets there. Thank you Amherst!

We have taken our dogs and cat here for years, visiting Dr. Meacher and Dr. Sofonia. So professional and caring. Both really cared about our animals, and took the time to explain medical issues and treatment options with us. I would give them 10 stars if i could!

Amherst took care of my baby boy Roxas for the last 5 years and my experiences were always wonderful. I had to say goodbye to my 15 year old doggy yesterday, and Dr. Grant Cumberbirch was the most compassionate and lovely person through the entire experience. The quality of front desk service over phone has declined significantly. Some are quite impatient and very close to be rude.

Wow. We just had the best experience at Amherst! Dr. Claire was so friendly, warm and kind. The staff was also very sweet and friendly. I can’t tell you the difference between our experience at Amherst, and the other vets we have tried in the area (with our last dog). Our new boy felt so comfortable and safe - which is exactly what we were hoping for! And at the end, they gave us a welcome goodie bag. Awesome!
