Having been an animal owner for 70+ years (dogs, cats, birds, farm animals) I have been in my share of pet/supply stores. This is, beyond exaggeration, the best! They are professional, knowledgeable, approachable, patient and pleasant to all customers.
Thank you for this lovely gem of a store and personnel!

Informed staff provided helpful information, even though it didn't result in a sale. Some unique items in stock you won't find elsewhere.

Very nice. Lots of goodies. Pricey but it is independent. They were super friendly helping me view some specific products not easily found in big box type stores.

Nothing ‘magical’ about this store or their customer service. Owner stated she would order a product, never bothered and went on holiday. Multiple staff members stated they cannot place an order as only the owner can. While the owner was away, One staff member even stated, “I can see the item in the cart, but I can’t place the order”.

As it was clear to me the staff and owner were too incompetent to place an order and provide basic customer service and follow through as promised, I left a voice mail (they also don’t bother picking up their phones during regular business hours, regardless of the time.) and informed them not to bother placing the order.

The owner called me today, almost 2 weeks later and informed me the item has been ordered and was there or about to arrive, contrary to what her staff told me.

The owner then rudely and abruptly cut me off and stated, “ok I’ve heard enough, I’m hanging up now. ”

A slap in the face considering I took the time to help her find a cat tree she didn’t know existed for her large cat breed clients!

Total incompetence, owner clearly doesn’t know how to run her business nor do her staff. AVOID AT ALL COSTS!

Rebecca claims staff “tried to explain the ordering system” - this is not true. Logically, had the ordering procedure been explained to me, I wouldn’t have had to contact the store multiple times to inquire whether or not it had been ordered.

Instead, I was left in limbo wondering when or if the order was ever placed. I was first told by one staff member, “I don’t know if it was ordered, I’ll call the owner today and find out. ” This evidently never happened as several days later, I was told “I don’t know if it was ordered, I’ll have to call the owner”

When Rebecca finally called me yesterday, she seemed frustrated with her staff and was taken a back as to why her staff couldn’t place an order while she was away. She also made a comment about her expectation of the staff being able to operate the business in her absence - to which I agreed.

Rebecca alleges her staff were “intimidated” by me, which is fictitious at best. I recall very pleasant and polite conversations with her staff, despite their incompetence and shoulder shrugging, and inability to ever answer the phone.

If anything her staff presented as awkward and embarrassed as their owner failed to be accountable and communicate with them, prior to leaving town.

Not sure how you won any award, unless the customers served themselves or didn’t need to place an order?

Lastly, had you not rudely and arrogantly cut me off on the phone, I had not ordered the cat tree from another store. I had inquired if one store could and they happened to have it in stock so I logically went with them, opposed to be strung along by incompetence and poor communication.

The content of my review was factual, unlike Rebecca’s response which was half truths and lies.

Instead of a sincere apology for her and her staff’s OBVIOUS incompetence and poor communication skills, she decided to take it out on her customer, outright blame me to avoid accountability and let her ego get the better of her.

Egregious, arrogant and rude are the words I’d choose to describe the owner.

Not sure who nominated her store as the “Best in Nanaimo” (herself?) but this particular encounter says it all.

FYI you can PAY organizations to boost your reviews by posting fake reviews, businesses do it all the time. It wouldn’t surprise me if this was the case here as well.

Case & point: Rebecca hasn’t had a review in 4 months and only a handful under 1 year. All of a sudden she gets two 5 star reviews after 1 negative review within 24 hours? ! Im not buying it, you’re only fooling yourself.

You only have yourself to blame for a negative review. Learn to be accountable and how to communicate while you’re at it.

I love shopping here! They always have the best products! The staff and owner are amazing and so helpful and knowledgeable!

The best pet store in Nanaimo and in my opinion all of Vancouver Island. Its a store that cares for its customers and furry friends. Great variety in selection, excellent staff and for some reason my pets are always happy to come in. You wont find a better, more caring pet store out there.

I love to spoil my big pupper and this is our favourite store. Stopping here is something of a weekend ritual. Good vibes all 'round.
