My god people have short memories! I’m reading these recent 1 star reviews complaining about maintenance, shortage of staff, no playing cards etc and wondering how these people forgot a recent global pandemic that absolutely decimated the tourism industry? All of their long term staff have scattered to the wind and they’ve had no income for improvement s and maintenance.
Imagine the waterfront property tax alone having to be paid for two years with no income.
I’m staying there now with my son. Yes, the place shuts down at 8pm but they can’t find staff right now. It doesn’t seem anyone can, my local KFC closes at 5 now. It’s going to take a while for APR to return to the former glory that keeps me coming back.
In the meantime enjoy the fact that rooms are half the pre Covid price and bring your own cards

Cancelling our reservation 2wks before does not sit well. Unhelpful in providing an alternative. Bad resort, bad.

There are some seriously mixed reviews on this place so I want to provide a balanced perspective. I don't make a ton of money and don't stay at a lot of fancy places, so staying here was a bit of a splurge for me. It's a beautiful old property. I read in one review that it's “a resort that is past its prime" which I think is apt. Clearly, judging from the derelict Japanese style spa building and the unused helipad, this place used to be a whole lot more happening. But for me this was a plus, I really liked the beat down yet dignified charm and the quiet vibe. I like places that look like they haven’t been renovated in 20 plus years, its like a time capsule. The dining hall is long and grand in classic west coast style. The view of the straight and the mainland is lovely. The staff are helpful enough, and friendly. The restaurant was surprisingly good with some reasonably priced items. I really enjoyed the fish tacos and the beef burger. There are also some more expensive entrees that I didn't try. The included breakfast is edible, with an assortment of items packed into a box that would delight a grade schooler, but would disappoint the boutique crowd. Cleanliness was excellent. I think this place is definitely good value for the money, especially since most rooms have a waterfront view. I have stayed in much worse accommodations in BC at a similar price point. My only major complaint was the state of the picture window in my room. I read in another review that the windows need to be replaced as you could barely see out of them. I took the risk because our room had a waterfront balcony. We had room 305, the window was atrocious. Let me explain, it was a double pane window and somehow water had gotten into the space in between, so condensation blocked the view across the entire window! Clearly this window needs to be replaced. I could maybe have looked the other way, but we were there on the only rainy day in July and couldn’t really sit outside. Also, I looked at as many windows for other rooms as I could and most of them were perfectly clear. Management, if you are reading this please fix the windows and stop selling these rooms until you do. The window problem put a sad ugly stain on a room that I otherwise really liked, and made me feel like the resort did not care about me or my patronage. I politely complained to the woman at the front desk at the end of my stay, but she tried to make an excuse that this is just the way windows are, super insulting, and obviously didn’t care as I’m sure she had heard it all before. We are in the post-accountability era in this country so no one takes responsibility for anything. So should you stay here? Yes, if I ever went back to quadra I would consider staying again. However, if you do I recommend booking directly with the resort and requesting a room with a window you can see out of. Other than the window, this is a well run resort in a convenient, beautiful location and with nice rooms (as long as you don’t expect a luxury experience or need good internet in your room). I think some of the negative reviews you see are either old or a bit unfair.

We stayed in 2018, and came back this past weekend (Aug 2023). If you go in understanding that this is a lovely fishing resort that has somehow managed to stay afloat, it’s great. Is the decor dated? Sure. But you’re on an island. At a fishing resort. Not the Ritz. It’s pretty clean, you have everything you need and the service is wonderful. If you’re wanting a 5 star boutique hotel with white glove service, the magic of Quadra may not be for you. I do think that our visit this year was somewhat better in than in 2018 because they’ve worked out what they can and can’t offer due to staffing shortages. The boxed breakfast (and coffee!) is a good solution to not having enough staff to operate the restaurant in the morning. I can see it might get a bit repetitive after day 2, but. If you don’t use the restaurant for dinner, we highly recommend ordering pizza at picking it up at the Clove and eating it on the lawn. Thank you to the staff that helped us move a picnic table into the shade for our family board games. We happily spent the whole day out there with our teen kids.

Undeniable that it's a pretty location and they did let us check in early, so that was very nice.
But our view of the ocean was obstructed by dirty/foggy windows that couldn't be cleaned as it was in between the glass. The website references ONSITE bocce, tennis, board games, and fitness center - so we came prepared to play! But, this was a lie. They didn't even have a deck of cards at the front desk! There was also NO hot water. We left our room the next day at 7am and will not be back.

Everyone at the resort was kind and very welcoming, although there was some confusion with our reservation, it was all sorted quickly.
The rooms were clean, cozy and the view was stunning! We got to see eagles, sea otters and harbor seals out of our balcony. The resort grounds are beautiful and have a nice area for lounging, walking and watching the fabulous sunsets.
The restaurant was just starting a new tapas menu. The items we tried were tasty but a bit small and the price didn't seem to reflect that. They did have some nice local beer on tap.
Overall, a wonderful experience!
17 September 2022 13:47
The view was absolutely amazing from the room and the restaurant. However major staffing issues closed down the spa, hot tub, shuttle to the sister resort which has the pool that we wanted on a very warm day. Also waits times ar the restaurant was extreme long. The entire resort shut down at 8pm with no activities. Very unorganized did not even have playing cards for sale or to borrow. Location was amazing however lack staff affected the experience. The resort was amazing however no communication of shut downs made for a bad experience.

If there are more than 5 stars, I would love to rate it that. We recently visited this resort. I have no words to explain our peaceful experience this place provided. Very warm welcome by Jackov. Cleanliness everywhere. Rooms were also clean, well-maintained with all the required stuff you may need in perfectly working condition. Then it comes the most important part; food. Restaurant staff was so courteous, humble and caring. I would like to special mention about Tammy who made our eating experience so blissful with her presence, manners, customer service etiquette and so positive behaviour. She is an asset to that place. Jody was also very welcoming. Food was very tasty. More than that, the view from hotel was WOW! So, overall, we loved being there and would love to go again.

Easily accessible by short ferry ride from Campbell River. (10 mins ish) with a short drive and large parking lot.

We arrived and were checked in fairly quickly, the front desk worker was great to explain the accommodations/restaurant situation and also was able to point us at some nice spots to check out on the island as it was our first time visiting.

The room had a mini fridge, water bottles offered as water was not drinkable. The balcony had an amazing view of the water and a lot of wildlife viewing just from our room. You’re able to hear the eagles chanting, seals and we got a view from a couple whales swimming by at sunset.

Highly recommend this place if you’re looking for a decently priced getaway area. I have no complaints and as you can read from the comments most are from the restaurant not the accommodations themselves.
27 August 2022 16:10
Very unhappy. The restaurant was closed and the spa. I went to park and relax for the whole weekend and no amenities. The hotel did not tell us this upon booking. Rooms were not that good.
17 August 2022 3:33
The actual resort is so pretty and most of the staff tried although they were massively understaffed. But let me tell you- the french child man at the front desk was the rudest most condescending customer service human I have ever met in my life! They made a mistake on my booking because I said I have a dog and they did not book me in a dog room. So the manager fixed it but the french guy gave me attitude and comments about it the entire time i stayed on property. Finally on the last day I thought checkout was 12 but it was actually 11 so the french guy came to ask me to leave. I hurried and was packing alone and had tons of heavy stuff i had thrown out my back the day before and had to carry everything down stairs. He didnt offer to help me carry anything or get a staff member to help.but yet came back to check i was gone 3 times in 30 mins and when i tried to explain i thought checkout was 12 he started telling me im lucky i even got to stay there and that my dog wasnt welcome. He even went as far to tell me I should travel more and see the world because I dont know what rude looks like. I explained i have been in 23 countries and he is by far one of the rudest people i have run into. He just smirked. It was super awkward and definitely not fun being a single woman alone being verbally abused by a male staff member. He even ran after me in the parking lot when i left and said i forgot to give him the extra key. I explained i gave it to the manager the other day and he told me i dont know the schedule and she wasnt here and that I was lying. I actually did give it to the manager. He just mumbled in french and walked away. This was insane awkward and made my time here not that great. Besides this man, the rest of the staff was generally friendly and even though they were understaffed I could tell they were trying. The food was good. But i wont be coming back just due to how agressive and rude the front desk man was. My uncle knows the owners and we will for sure be speaking to them.
14 August 2022 14:01
Book one week Advanced talk on the a day before, but they did tell us all amenities were closed restaurant smell of septic tank was awful I had to drive to the other end of the island to get food. Very disappointed in the lack of communication. Building is run down it shows it’s for sale I don’t think anybody really cares.
05 August 2022 20:35
We enjoyed a quiet lunch today. The seafood chowder was second to none, and the Campbell (salmon and brie) burger was also outstanding.
02 May 2022 23:56
Beautiful location situated on Quadra Island. We absolutely loved our waterfront room with the view of the dock, intermittent water taxi to Campbell River and kayakers.

Bucky was fantastic this summer in getting us situated with our kayak. Took an adventure up the point and encountered all sorts of wildlife. Absolutely post-card worthy! Immerse yourself in nature for a relaxing, truly 'Vancouver Island' experience.

Fishing charters looked great, will need to try next time.

Quadra Island has limited options for food so please do keep this in mind. We had a small fridge in our room so we stocked up at the local grocery store on essentials during our week-long stay. The main lodge where check-in occurs has a beverage vending machine during their open hours.

Such a great place with a ton of history! Even if you do not fish, there is lots to see and do here.from enjoying their spa to the beautiful landscaping and flowers, to maybe enjoying the view over a beverage and a game of pool in the bar, or taking in one of the ecotours. You need to add this place to your list of your are in the area!
18 January 2022 16:14
Food seems hastily cooked and not with love.the legendary painters lodge used to be a great fishing lodge. Its not even about fishing anymore. I don’t think they own any fishing boats anymore.
02 December 2021 8:55
Loved the place. Convenient location for excursions. I just wish the water cab were included. Nice bike rides and kayaks. Beautiful views
17 November 2021 18:03
Amazing view and welcoming staff's what ever their job is every one is kind. Later at night, it's possible to hear seal's and there's a pack of dolphins that I saw playing in the current nearby taking the water taxi to the main island.
05 November 2021 5:54
We arrived in the month of September and still had a great time. We erroneously thought we were booking Painters Lodge but booked here instead. A short ferry ride later we arrived to our happy mistake! Beautiful, serene, and quiet! Yes, would return!
04 November 2021 13:50
We loved our stay at April Point! Friendly staff, cute oceanfront accommodation and delicious dinners in the dining room! We really enjoyed the continuous water taxi to and from Painters Lodge which makes Campbell River super accessible for a meal at Painters Lodge or to just get to April Point if you're not requiring a vehicle on Quadra Island.
31 August 2021 2:13
Restaurant service was the worst I’ve ever experienced. Ever. Amateurs who were much more concerned with oh how hard we work than delivering a good experience for guests. Waited 30 minutes between server bothering to take time to check in with is. Utter rubbish.
30 August 2021 6:02
Beautiful setting here right on the water. But my fish chowder was truly mediocre and service was dis-jointed. Bartender was great.
28 August 2021 12:36
Sad to see the state of this "resort and spa" very rundown, food was expensive and not worth it. Staff made no efforts to make you feel welcome and had zero knowledge of the menu. Lots of great options in the area, give this place a MISS.
18 August 2021 4:40
Wow, what a stunning spot. Gorgeous location, friendly and knowledgeable service. We'll definitely return-make sure to try their juniper berry mojito! Perfect on a hot day.
10 August 2021 10:50
Went opening day and the restaurant was busy, there were no more burgers when I got there with my friends but we enjoyed the fried chicken and oysters and the drinks are to die for! Service was also friendly and pleasant!
28 June 2021 4:13
New opening, terrible service and food, employees complaining oabout the bad management. Long term employees complaining same management is abusive. Always hiring low end chefs, and putting out sub-standard food. Save your money
27 June 2021 20:51
Amazing food! The staff here is super amazing and who wouldn’t love the amazing view, highly recommended to others!
23 June 2021 21:38
Boat ride over from Painter's sure adds to the experience! Loved their happy hour options and prices, 10/10 would recommend. Keep up the great work.
29 October 2019 8:20
No coffee filters, they could not make a breakfast order, frozen muffins for breakfast, over cooked steaks, did not honor the room price, could not dock boat to check out, no service for disable, $50 fine if a dirty dish was left in cabin, food was not up to par for a resort, staff said " we only work for minimum wages so what do you expect. " after a week it was nice to say good bye.
28 September 2019 3:53
Great place to stay and relax, unfortunately the spa was closed, but our spa suite made up for it. Food is excellent even if the pricing is on the expensive side. There's a water taxi to painter's lodge that runs every 15 minutes, pretty handy for a quick trip to campbell river or the painter's lodge pub/restaurant.
17 September 2019 17:05
Great location. Had dinner. Not crowded but service was slow. Food was pretty good. Sat outside. They offer blankets if it gets chilly. Nice to dine outside in the cool with a blanket shared with your sweetheart
22 August 2019 18:26
An idyllic resort in a beautiful and quiet location. Make sure to use the free water taxi to the sister hotel Painter's Lodge, the food there is fantastic. A lot was written here about the food in the hotel, but I can't say anything about it, because we hadn't eaten here, the staff was friendly.
Unfortunately the spa was closed, the equipment may be a bit old-fashioned, but it fits to the flair and is of higher quality than the 3-stars. We could watch seals and whales out of our window
17 August 2019 2:36
Spa wasn't open. Had to run hot water tap for 3 to 4 full minutes before any hot water. No air conditioner. The food at restaurant was very good and the staff was friendly.
07 August 2019 8:17
We had the cajun fish tacos and they were pretty good. Also saw some whales right of the edge of the point.
06 August 2019 11:23
During our roadtrip, where we stayed in a multitude of hotels, lodges and resorts, this was the best: beautiful setting on Quadra Island amongst the trees, comfortable 'quaint' rooms, pleasant staff, kayaking in the adjoining Lake with harbour seals trailing you and bald Eagles flying overhead. The only downside was that the spa at the time was under construction, which came for us as a surprise. The only reason I can't honestly give 5 stars. Heartely recommended.
11 July 2019 2:35
They have no idea what customer service means. The restaurant was closed for a private function (after I asked 4 questions, the front desk clerk finally told us this) and trying to figure out where to eat was like pulling teeth until he finally suggested to take the water shuttle to Painters. There is no where to eat on this small island and I feel they should have told us at check in. There were a few more instances like the above but i don’t have enough time to let you all know.
The rooms were mediocre at best. The only positive was the view, which was stunning.
The new owners have a lot of work to get this stunning property to the level it once was.
09 July 2019 4:36
Superbe endroit! Phoques à quelques dizaines de mètres et aigles à tête blanche pêchant pendant nos repas sur la terrasse du restaurant.
Vue super depuis notre chambre
J ai pas mis 5 étoiles car frigo bruyantquej ai débranché. Le problème c est qu on entends "un ronronnement" du aux autres frigo mais rien de rédhibitoire nous avons super bien dormi!
22 March 2019 13:30
Seasonal island getaway among the pines overlooking the Georgia straight and campbell river watching seals, dolphins and whales on a sunny day by night watch cruise ships pass on journey to Alaska
23 December 2018 17:38
Worked for there for a couple of years and been a guest even longer. I'd recommend the two resorts to anyone.
02 September 2018 11:49
Definitely worth the water taxi it's a beautiful little resort. However menu's are quite small and don't have much to choose from. Prices are a little up there i can see that as it is on a island however I wish they had a all day menu. I visited here many years ago and for dinner they had a sushi menu which was lovely but didn't seem to have it for lunch when I visited. Their patio for their restaurant is beautiful I'd come back just for that and for the walk around the property which is beautiful as well. A lovely spa sits on the water which I'd love to try sometime maybe on my next visit. People are a little saddened about it costing money to take the water taxi now with new ownership but what do you expect? It's well worth the 10 dollars there and back and if you spend 10 dollars on April point your ride back is covered I'd check it out if you've never been and like to walk around and take in the scenery.
18 August 2018 22:21
This place is magical! The setting on Quadra Island is spectacular and the resort is first class. Cabin felt less like a cabin and more like a fancy hotel with high end kitchen. Overlooking the ocean listening to the whales while sitting in a hot tub cannot be beat! First day we caught 2 chinook salmon weighing 12-15 lbs! This place is the perfect blend of high end amenities and true west coast beauty. Finally the staff have gone above and beyond for our whole group, amazing with our kids understand and anticipating our needs. Cannot say enough good things about the staff and locals. Best vacation we have had in years! April Point is a place we will return to again and again!
14 June 2018 11:04
One of my favourite places on Quadra - our first visit was in 2010. We stayed in one of the upstairs rooms and really enjoyed to convenience of the restaurant with its lovely views. Even when we we don't stay at April Point itself, we normally visit the restaurant at least once during our stay on Quadra. One can also take the little boat over from Painters' Lodge in Campbell River for a day visit. Sit on the deck overlooking the waters and enjoy a lovely meal, or go all the way and treat yourself or someone special to a treatment in their spa on the water's edge.
