Audacious Vocals

I’m a film/tv actor with no singing experience/talent and started from scratch. Dorcas helped me prepare for a very important audition that required a musical piece. She was patient, kind, thorough and would find different approaches if ever things weren’t working. I noticed improvement not only in my singing voice but also in my speaking voice, my breath while I work and my posture. I would recommend her to anyone and as far as value goes, she goes above and beyond what you’re paying for. And extremely professional.

The words “teacher, instructor, or coach” do not adequately describe her caring, logical, and inspirational method of imparting vocal performance knowledge in her learners. It will be self-evident from your first moments with Dorcas that she is very invested in your individual needs as an aspiring performer.

As her student and as a physician myself, I can honestly say that she is a bona fide “doctor of the voice. ” Because she has such extensive knowledge of the human voice from both anatomic and artistic perspectives, she comfortably listens in the lesson, analyzes, discusses, and then provides students with a custom suite of techniques and exercises that works for them to bring out the best in every unique voice.

She somehow takes incredibly abstract concepts and makes them real, understandable, and workable. That she does this with such incredible energy and humour makes being in her studio an even more wonderful experience and definitely something to look forward to.

Dorcas is such an amazing teacher and a lovely person. I’ve benefitted so much from doing lessons with her. Wouldn’t go to anyone else!

I am INCREDIBLY GRATEFUL that I have found Dorcas. To be honest the only reason I don't want to write this review is that she will get booked out and I won't be able to book in sessions with her ;-) Kidding but seriously - her space is professional, she's really knowledgable, comes from experience in her own signing journey and doesn't just run you through a system or program but uses her skills to assess where you are and what you need to go where you want to go. Dorcas really makes you feel safe to learn and grow and gives you the push you need to achieve your goals. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!

I came to Dorcas as a singer-songwriter and performer, without any training. Dorcas has given me the tools and technique to really get to know my voice and to use it to its best potential.

I've always wanted to learn to sing. Tired with the way I sounded in the shower and with all the free time I had during the pandemic, I decided to make the jump. After a search online, I found Dorcas.

I read all her reviews and I thought I would try out a lesson. I was very anxious going into it because I had a bad experience with a music teacher in my youth, but Dorcas helped me get over that very quickly.

Dorcas is kind, patient, understanding and fun. I like how she didn't have cookie cutter lessons, but tailored it to my needs. I think she's brilliant at what she does, has A LOT of knowledge and knows how to teach that information well. I think it's a bonus that she's a great singer too.

I look forward to her lessons. Her passion is infectious.

I started with one off lessons for a few months and now I'm on my 2nd term with her.

Don't just take my word though, I encourage you to try out a lesson and see for yourself. You'll be glad you did. I'd also recommend following her exercises even if they don't make sense in the moment. She has a method to her madness.

I love Dorcas! I came to her when my speech and breath work needed help. She has rewired my voice so that my speech has more resonance and has helped me build a foundation for singing. I love how technical she is and with patience, her guidance will definitely get you closer to whatever your goal is.

I was quite hesitant to start taking lessons since I had to commit to it. So when I was determined and Dorcas had a spot open, I took it. Her lessons have been foundational and tailored to my needs and my voice. I’ve felt lots of improvements and I can now practice knowing what I’m doing and what’s right and healthy for my voice. Dorcas in addition to being a knowledgeable teacher, she’s friendly, nice and a detail-oriented. Looking back I made a great decision to take lessons with her and look forward to continue working on my technique.

Starting singing lessons with Dorcas was the best thing I have done for myself in a long time. I had an introductory lesson in October, and then signed up for weekly lessons for the fall, and this winter / spring. I am an amateur who never had vocal training before; I was in choir as a child, and as an adult enjoyed karaoke nights at friends' houses. I wanted to improve as a singer, but to be honest, I didn't realize how much improvement was truly possible. Dorcas is knowledgeable, insightful, and encouraging. In her studio, she fosters a beautiful safe space to explore your voice - and any internal hang-ups you may have about talent vs.skill, and who is "allowed" to sing. Through my lessons with her I have increased my understanding of the mechanics of singing, and experienced several "break throughs", which were incredibly surprising and gratifying. I would encourage anyone who is sifting through reviews because they want to improve their voice to take the leap and contact her to see what is possible.
