There was a problem but it was handled so nicely. They took good care of us. Wish the location of the car lot had been a little clearer since it was a little confusing but it was a very good rental.
After reading all the negative reviews, I had real concerns about renting from this location. But after seeing that Dollar had far worse reviews all over the country, and especially in downtown Vancouver, and with Avis being one of very few rental companies letting me pick a car up and drop it off right at the airport proper, I gave it a shot.
My experience was great. We walked in 15 minutes early and waited for less than 30 seconds before one of three agents on duty took care of us. It took less than 5 minutes to complete the transaction. My wife was automatically added as a driver at no extra charge. We had rented a Ford Escape (or similar) and got a Hyundai Tucson, clean and in good condition.
Our return to the Vancouver airport was equally hassle free. We pulled into the Avis area, and within one minute an Avis employee reviewed our car, and electronically updated the rental records. We were done within 2 minutes, with no additional charges.
We arrived at 10 AM. I see how you might have to wait if you want to rent at the same time a cruise ship is docking or sailing.thousands of people embarking or disembarking make for long lines everywhere. Or, you might want to avoid first thing in the morning or last thing before closing to avoid the crowd. I've nothing but good things to say about Avis.
I experienced a perfect organized office location in Vancouver downtown and received a free upgrade as my reservation hasn't been ready. So I will be very happy to recommend AVIS to my friends! Keep going this way!)
I am a Preferred Member but had to wait almost 2 hours for a rep to rent my car as this location does not offer the service. Car was great, however and drop off was seamless. If you are able to rent from the airport in Vancouver, this location offers the Preferred Service.
Great service. I was taken care of within half hour. I greatly appreciate the quick service. I was able to get on with our family trip after a quick visit to the branch.

One star because I can not give zero. Beware, this location has NO preferred member amenities. There is ZERO signage directing you anyplace. You can NOT go straight to your car! You need to stand in line. Whatever you do, don’t listen to the Avis main number directions, they have NO idea what goes on at this location.
It was a Saturday and there were at least 40 people in line in front of me. I called the main Avis number and they advised me to just go to the car… not an option since they have no signs or QR code to scan or anything… then they told me to just go to the counter and tell them I’m a preferred member. I did that and I was told they don’t offer any preferred member benefits, “everyone is preferred, ” and I needed to go back in line. I spoke to the manager and he told me the same thing. So I got back in line and called the Avis main number again and they told me they were unable to do anything for me… thanks Avis. Back in line and lost about 10 places… What a waste of my time. I will NEVER rent from Avis again. Ever. I’d rather walk.
Avis rental at Vancouver raise port is 10 block walk from the cruise terminal. Waited in line for more than an hour to get a vehicle while rest of party waited at cruise terminal with luggage. Avis office C attendant was rude and didn’t seem to care that everyone was tired and needed compassion while trying to get on their way
We rented a car here for 3 weeks. We received an "accident-free" Chevrolet Equonix. Barely cleaned outside and inside. During the takeover it was found that the rear right wheel arch with side part was dented in several places and the rear right door was also damaged. No problem was noted and we used the car for 3 weeks. When we dropped it off at Vancouver airport the employee told us everything was OK. 1 day later we were deducted 12 Canadian dollars. To date, we have not received 2 e-mails why or for what the money was debited. Reading the recessions it seems like this has a system. Too bad Definitely no more notifications next time.
Everything was fine with my Avis car hire with the annoying exception of the return process. I was directed by the Avis employee at the airport to not park in their spaces but asked to stop in the drive area where he did a quick inspection and checked mileage, he then instructed me to leave it there while he did the same to a couple of cars behind me. He said I should leave it there and take my luggage. Subsequently Avis sent me an invoice for not parking the car, this is an obvious scam and leaves a bad taste following an otherwise excellent experience with Avis.
The people were nice and friendly. A transfer to a larger vehicle with a navigation system was possible without any problems. Since the car was not completely cleaned, I was promised a goodwill arrangement. All in all I would book there again in a heartbeat
We went to AVIS after a bad experience at another car rental company. Every problem we had with the other company didn't happen here. They gave us the same car we had booked, it was a very fast process at the front desk while giving us very detailed and professional attention to all of our questions, and a very fast return as well.a very good experience with them over all!
They have nice employees and it is the only reason I come back. But their administrative processes are terrible, they assigned me a parking ticket that was incurred 1 month before my rental dates. Furthermore, they rented me a car without snow tires while they have signs advising that snow tires are required. My entire family was at risk.
I did not have a good experience last time I rented from this Avis branch. The Dodge Caravan I received was dirty and had an odor. It felt like it wasn’t cleaned after the previous drop off. As soon as I started the car, “Oil Change Due” warning popped up in the dashboard. Although the person at the counter said the car was serviced recently, it felt neglected to me. The breaks felt quite unsafe, noisy and the breaking distance was increased. It felt unsafe to drive in wet conditions
Very expensive 2 day rental we needed and paid for a large SUV due to family and excess bags due to coming off an Alaskian cruise. We received a mid size SUV and I believe we should have had a price adjustment.

Je ne recommande pas. J’avais loué une voiture avec option GPS. L’employé allume le GPS. Il m’indique qu’il n’a plus de batterie. Arrivés à la voiture, je le branche et je constate qu’il ne marche pas. Je cours à l’agence pour demander son remplacement. On m’en fournit un nouveau. Nous sommes en retard. Nous branchons le GPS (à vide lui aussi) et prenons la route. Voyant que le GPS ne s’allume pas au bout d’une dizaine de minutes, je regarde tout très attentivement et je constate que la prise allume-cigare est « vide », sans lien électrique. Si je résume, on m’a fourni LA voiture dont l’allume cigare ne marche pas et deux GPS sans charge. Nous avons dû tout faire à la carte. J’ai signalé immédiatement le problème et je l’ai redit au moment du rendu de véhicule à Jasper. La personne m’a assuré que je serais remboursé pour le GPS automatiquement. Rien depuis 3 semaines! Ils enquêtent. Ce n’est pas professionnel ni correct.
Busier than I expected for 9am on a Sunday morning. Staff amiable and dealt with customers efficiently. No hard sell for other services which was nice.
I rented a full sized car and received a monster SUV (Yukon Denali). Given that I was driving a long distance, the car provided was perfect (although really expensive in the cost of gas). An excellent rental experience.
My first and only option in Vancouver where to rent a car in the past five years! The staff is professional and very nice, it’s always a pleasure to go there. I rented there many times, both for the weekend or for longer periods of time (one month) and they were always very accommodating to my needs. Never had a problem, even when I had an accident (not my fault) or needed to extend the reservation during the trip. Recommended!
Pick-up of the car was extremely smooth, appreciated the "one-way" rental by picking up in the city centre and returning at the airport. Also, the car was comfortable, modern and had a small roof-window that could be opened which was excellent for wild animal spotting. It has been my best rental experience yet.

First off - they made me sign a form upon pick up to confirm there were no damage / scratches on the car. When I got the keys and inspected the car, there were existing damage. I Had to go back to let the agent know and amend the form, otherwise I would have been charged for damage that was already there.
Drop off was the worst because we were returning the car after hours and there was no lock box to leave the keys in. We happen to run into another renter returning the car and learned that the lock box at this location was broken into. There was no sign whatsoever advising people of this, and their “24 hour” customer service line did not work (dead dial tone). We had to come back the next day when this location opened to drop off the keys, which were extremely disruptive to our travel plans. The agent, Dereje, was rude and unapologetic about the situation at all, and was not helpful. Their manager isn’t at work until Tuesday, and they told me to call their customer service line if I wanted to make a complaint.
Worst service I’ve ever experienced. It took more than 30 min for them to have the car ready. Staff was impolite and rude. I was told by the lady in the front desk that it was taking so long because the car was being washed, but they just threw water on it. They didn’t clean it, they just got it all wet and that took them 37 min

Got a decent SUV. Felt like the turnaround was too quick and it wasn’t that clean. The rental wasn’t cheap but it did include unlimited km’s and the Nissan Rogue was good on gas. Check in and out was fairly quick but I didn’t like how they asked a lot about where I planned on going and why.
I can only say good things about AVIS Vancouver Hornby Street. I had a problem I caused myself. The branch manager Khalid helped me very well with my problem. I can only recommend this branch! I would rent a car there again anytime.
We paid for a rental of a specific car about 5 months in advance. By paying upfront, we wanted to make sure we have the car we paid for but as usual our car was not available and we had no other choice than being "upgraded" to an enormous car that cost way much more in gas. According to the agent, we just needed to call to be refunded of the difference. We are still waiting 4 months later. It seems like it happened to a lot of people. Choose hertz, it might be more expensive but they guarantee you the car you pay for. ** update (I received an answer from Tresa- Avis). To be clear it wasn't a similar model or a car in the same range. We got a SUV for 8 persons instead of an economy. We were only 2 travellers and the SUV added an extra cost of about $100 in gas!
5* check in service with Khalid. Very poor check out service with Trish. When we brought these issues to the attention of Khalid they were promptly resolved.
On the basis of other reviews that queues are long I booked pickup at 8.30am and there was zero queue and was on the road in 10 minutes. Booked standard SUV received Jeep Grand Cherokee which has been v good
Wait time is over 3 hours, which is continuously being prolonged leaving customer in unknown. Unacceptable.
Front desk assistants seem to be frustrated themselves but cannot help the situation.
Follow up: The manager was able to address the situation by extending the rental time for free and as per my needs. Note that the wait time could be longer on the weekends.
One of the worst experiences I have ever had. Was told there was a car there. Got there and there wasn’t. Women wouldn’t help me at all. Washed her hands of the situation. Gave me a phone to call head office. Couldn’t get through, refused to help me contact them. Never seen such poor service in my life. I was clearly upset and having a horrible day, women could have cared less. Never step foot or use Avis again, cannot believe this company operates in North America.
Needed a one-way car rental to Calgary. Staff was very helpful and welcoming. The car was brand new, unlimited KM's were included, insurance was very reasonable and the final price was the same as the estimated costs. I have been ripped off from rental companies before but AVIS was top notch all the way. Would definitely rent again from them.
I was extremely satisfied with my rental. Car was very clean and smelled great! Rental process was very smooth. And customer service was super friendly and amazing!
I didn't get the car I booked. I got a crossover which it consumes more gasoline, we were only two people. Besides the car was very dirty inside and out side. The oil change due sing was on. The car had Washington license, not a good time to travel around the province with foreign license.
Constant issues with their service. Rented several times from this location and they over charge every time. Will not be using again. Terrible customer service. Slow and poorly trained.
We did reserve the luxury car via priceline for days prior to pick up.
When we arrive at the counter the lady told us they don’t have any luxury car at the moment. We booked 4 days ealier!
She proposed alternative choices going from compact car to big 7 passenger SUV.
When we went down to the garage to pick up the big truck instead of our luxurious car, we saw they had other luxurious car available but she never proposed them. They were apparently in a super your class and we would have to pay way more to get one of them.

Very bad experience. The lady at the counter doesn't understand basic reasoning. I was told I can rent a car then the next second I was told there are no cars available. Even if my friend had just returned their car one day in advance. I'll never rent from this location anymore
Please avoid this location as possible as you can. First of all, I didn't get a car I reserved which was a standard type. I was offered to a free upgrade to a mini van, but I emphasized I was not comfortable driving bigger cars. Then I had to wait for a friend as an additional driver, I witnessed 3 or 4 people were forced to take a mini van although they reserved small cars. The car agents threatened the customers to take the mini van or leave the office. Once I went to the parking lot, I also realized they gave me a mini van. I ran to the office hoping it was still open as it was closing time. I was able to catch an agent, but his response was cancel the reservation or take it. As I had to leave the town shortly, I had no other option to take it. Then I got stuck in the parking lot in front of the parking gate bar as they forgot to give me a ticket to exit there. I called the office, but they were not supportive. As there was another customer who came behind me got stuck together, we begged the parking operator to raise the bar so we can get out of the building after 20 or 30 mins. I also found out that they were holding a deposit which I was not informed. But I understand that it is a standard rule. This was the worst car rental experience I ever had. They were unfriendly and unsupportive. Every single customer was very unhappy dealing with their mal practice. People usually make a reservation beforehand because plans are already made. Car rental should be reliable and they need to provide what they promised to offer to customers. This location needs a proper employee education with customer service or needs to be closed if they don't change. It does tarnish Avis's reputation and I will warn everyone I know to avoid this location.
Booked the car, got the insurance. Payed 130 CAD for less than 24h. They gave me a car without a handle but they said it was ok, made me sign that the car was already like that. After returning the car, they called me and very aggressively told me I had to go there (I was abroad) to sign a paper because an accident has occurred with the car. After many calls, I discovered that it was because of the handle. They understood their mistake and told me that they would call me back. A few days later, they charged me 185CAD without telling me anything.
I was overcharged 90 dollars in my credit card for services I did not ask. I specifically asked them not to add Roadside Assistance and still they charged me. I also filled the tank before delivering the car and they still charged me 45 dollars on behalf of that. I took a picture of the fuel tank before I delivered. Avis is the worst rental car company and I'll tell everyone I know to never rent a car from Avis again.
I rented with this Avis location in May and got great service from the black gentleman and the middle eastern lady. I got the car I reserved which was spotless. I rented with them again last weekend and it was a very unfortunate experience. The middle eastern gentleman was extremely rude. I asked if he could speak clearer and louder because I’m hearing-impaired and the mask and plastic screen was muffling him. This just made him roll his eyes and grow frustrated when I asked him to repeat. Next, he informed I was ‘upgraded’ and told me the sedan I reserved on their website was ‘no longer available’ so they were giving me a Toyota Sienna. I told him I was uncomfortable driving such a large car (a minivan) and asked if there were any other smaller cars available, even if I had to pay more. He told me to either take the minivan or lose my reservation with no refund (because I was ‘canceling’ the day of my reservation). As I already booked a road trip, I took it but it was a very unsafe experience as the car shook violently whenever I braked and I dont have enough driving experience to be driving such a large car. Also the car was dirty inside with chips and old food all over the floor when I received it. Save your money, headache and don’t rent here:/
I rented a couple of times from this location with no issues. On my most recent experience, I got charged an extra day even though I returned the car via key drop-off on the right day and time. I brought this up with the Manager - no reply, no refund, no follow up. Needless to say, I won't be returning.
When I rented the car on line, I prepaid for from Tuesday to the following Monday. When I arrived at the Avis rental location (hornby and West Georgia) the lady said that my car was found early (was reported stolen) that I would not get any money back because I prepaid. So I asked her if I could cancel and do a day to day basis and she said no, you cannot do it. After getting the rental car, I checked the online terms and conditions and it was written that I could cancel within 24 hours but would be charged $50.00 admin fee. She lied to me, I was there before 12pm (which was the pick up time) so I was still able to cancel that agreement and rent the car on a day to day basis. I am very upset that you have people who not only lie but also misrepresent. I do not trust Avis anymore and will have my company rent cars at other establishments.

Never going to rent car here again. A lot of hidden fees. Charged almost extra day for 45 min late return on Monday when there is no demand! Enterprise has much better service and no extra hidden fees.
Just great! Super easy pickup and drop-off, offered an upgrade for a low additional charge (no pressure.but a nice option which I took). No surprises, very friendly staff and pickup/drop-off pain free and simple. Recommended!
Branch location is good. Staff was very kind. Good and clean car. Only one thing that disapponit me was the price compared to hertz. I rented from avis to drop off at US which is not allowed by Hertz at the moment.
