Great service. The first car we picked up was broken into and a load of our gear was stolen. The Avis team, particularly the team at 757 Hornby Street, Vancouver were fantastic and helped us get back on our way very quickly.

They did not have the car that was reserved online. They gave us another vehicle and after 2 days they changed it but it was not the one we asked for.

Surprisingly fantastic experience.
Normally, car rental places are a nightmare and they're trying to rip you off. Our reserved car was waiting for us, however we got a great upgrade. Everything went smoothly, fast, thanks to Show and his manager!

Staff at rental service reminded me there would be a Cad 1000 deductible for accidental damage so I paid for full coverage.
I was very fortunate due to follow this staff’s recommendation and got zero deductible following an accident during parking.
All staffs including the staff handled the car return were polite and super efficient!

I rented the car with 5 months in advance directly with Avis from my country with a contract with the fixed amount that was going to be payed at the counter. The person in charge at that time initially refused to rent the car just because the price seemed to him to low. After a while realising that it's not going to work, he had no choice but to accept the contract made in advance and give up at the huge extra fees that he was so keen to add.

Agent by the name of Robert was the worst individual I have ever encountered in a service environment. He is based at Avis centre in Santa Fe California and as a result of his rude, arrogant behaviour I will not be recommending to all my friends and associates the use of Avis.

Stay away from this agency! Unless you like being charged fraudulently! They are all smiles but slip through 2200 CAD charges more than our reservation. Once they overcharge, no one answers any calls. Customer service plays dead. Learn from our experience and avoid Avis like a plague.

The Avis Car Rental office at Vancouver International Airport is horrible. There were 2 reps behind the counter and 27 people waiting to pick up a car. One of the reps walked off for a break and left a single rep to handle the entire line. The management should know how many people reserved cars at a given hour and have the necessary staffing to support the processing in a timely manner. Waiting for over an hour to be processed at an airport branch is unfair and cruel to customers who expect decent customer service levels from a major car rental company. Other car rental companies are properly staffed and have customers processed in less than 10 minutes.

What’s going on with Avis? Who’s running the Avis Vancouver Airport office? Customers should avoid Avis.

I'm torn here, everything about the rental was fine, car was fine, no extras, all pretty smooth. But pick up was terrible. Long lines and just as long of a wait to get the actual car. If you are planning a ferry for the same day, please allow for 1.5-2 hrs getting your car if it's a busy day. We landed on a Tuesday in mid August.

Thank you Bilal for helping improve our experience. The wait was a bit long and there was a man shouting for not being allowed to rent a car due to no credit card in his name. Bilal despite being shouted at kept calm, remain professional and was a joy to deal with. Car was nice and clean. On return the operations manager from Saudi Arabia was a legend too. We incurred a 0.27 CAD charge that I don’t know what it related to, but all was ok.

There is currently a line out the door with 27 people waiting to get a car at YVR Avis with only 2 behind the counter. This is very poor customer service. You cannot run a company with only 2 people behind a counter. Where are your managers?

The car had not been cleaned. The AC was not working. We returned the car before 8.00am this morning, but as the paperwork was processed at 8.08am, we were charged an additional hour's rental of $67.00. How is that right?

Please make sure to have at least two hours in hand if you're planning to rent from here. All the other rentals were really quicker and the line for Avis was too long. The bottleneck was the shortage of staff which should be mitigated. Also, making a reservation or a digital check in makes no difference as you still wait in the same line. We lost two hours of our reserved time with no compensation!

Overcharged by additional $125 which was way above what we are required to pay and when we viewed the invoice, it includes things like non package fees and package charges and optional fees total taxable. All of this was not told to us upfront at the point of reservation, at the point of collection. Very unethical.

Alright experience overall at Avis. Pick-up was quite fast. Received a Chevrolet Malibu which was a little heavy and poor-handling but okay overall. Able to use CarPlay via infotainment screen.

No other issues during rental period. Drop-off was Swift on return leg.

Used their services back in September 2021. My flight was delayed for several hours and landed in vancouver around 12 midnight. Their staff waited until I got my keys before they closed their desk. I was told that this is part of their policy if you booked at their airport location. Needless to say, I was more than glad to pay the location premium. I was running on a very tight schedule and had to drive to Whistler upon landing. I had people on my flight who had booked with other car rental agencies but were not able to get their cars. Car drop off was also very quick and straightforward. This was such a pleasant experience, a sharp contrast to my negative experience dealing with small / independent car rental agencies in the past.

Cars was extremely dirty No signs of covid precaution as claimed in the website prior to booking.

Had to use antibacterial wet wipes to clean the car. Also i see online that there were free upgrades but i was pushed to pay more for a slightly better car.

Moral of the story is what was claimed was not matched by advertised

Everything worked in the correct way. New car, clean and available fo immediate use and return with no burocracy. I had to ask for an extra day, and it was all done by phone with absolute no problem. That's what a customer needs. And Avis knows how to do it!

Don't rent from AVIS rent a car at Vancouver International Airport. First, they gave me a car with the bumper damaged and a big scratch. I reported this immediately to the front desk and the guy said he didn't know about that. He gave me another car. I checked the car and everything was ok. When I returned the car, they told me there was a scratch below the bumper in the driver side. I obviously didn't see this because you practically need to get below the car to notice this. They opened a report for me like I was responsible for that, which I was not and it was almost impossible for me to notice that. It seems to me they are just looking for customers to pay for their damaged cars. Very unethical. Don't rent from this company be careful. I usually take the Skylinx shuttle to Whistler but was a bit paranoid due to pandemic. I also wanted a bit of flexibility in my schedule so rented from Avis and will be back. Checkin/dropoff were super easy and the location is very convenient - for domestic travellers anyways. Absolutely no issues with either my vehicle or the service received. I'll use them again going forward.

The car itself was wonderful for the 8 days I had it but I arrived in Vancouver late at night and #1 the vehicle wasn't parked where I was told it would be and #2 the drivers side back seat was dirty enough that someone couldn't sit on it.

The crew at Avis at the Vancouver Airport were very helpful and polite. We had to extend the rental and that also went well. The Avis website was confusing for the extension so I had to call which worked out. The vehicle was clean and what we had requested.
Will use Avis again!

We had to wait 1 hour for our vehicle eventhough we had a reservation. The vehicle we got also was a Nissan murano while we were expecting something like jeep grand Cherokee. The vehicle also had a rough life judging by the interior and also could have been cleaned better (especially when it took them 1 hour to get it). Normally I rent at National where I can pick a vehicle from the lot which is a much better experience with allot nicer cars.

We were misinformed about locations and the vehicle we had prepaid was not available at the airport. We ended up taking four hours and a trip Into Richmond to get another vehicle from another rental outfit or we would have been stranded. I will never consider them for another rental period and I would never recommend them to anyone.

I was not happy with the old technology. My credit card was already charged for the booking yet I wasn't allowed to take the car on my day of booking coz the machine at the location won't accept my credit card. The people who served me very nice. No complaints about them. They were sympathetic and kind and patient but the company policies and technology caused me a lot of discomfort and I shall never trust to use the car service with this company again

I prepay Premium SUV, after check-in they don´t have any Suburban, Manager give me for free GMC Yukon, thas´t not what I wanted. I need big cargo space, so manager say me i can pay for upgrade for GMC Yukon Denali (similiar size to Suburban). I was not happy with that because at previous rental when they don´t have my car class, then give me free upgrade. Not this time.

I used to have an experience that Avis is quite expensive. Perhaps, the booking is coupled with my Air Canada flight booking, the cost of booking became more reasonable. In addition, the car model is quite new. However, it seems that the transmission may need to be replaced soon for I felt there are slips when pushing up the speed.

There’s about 8 people ahead of me and only two representatives to help. I’ve been waiting for over an hour. Anyone that has preferred can just walk right in and the representative has to help them first, even though everyone else has been waiting for a long time. I don’t understand why Avis doesn’t have one extra representative on the floor on busy days. 15-35 minute wait time is understandable but 1.5 hours is a bit much.
This complaint isn’t about the staff as they were friendly and worked as quickly as they could.

I appreciate so many things about your company and the convenience of your location at YVR, however I have been disappointed 3 times now with the cleanliness of your vehicles. This last time I was pulling out of the hotel and about 8 chocolate almonds and an empty box rolled out between the feet of my guest. There was sticky substance in the emergency brake handle and in the console. This was embarrassing for me and irritating that I was paying for a clean car but did not receive one.

Tout à bien commencé. J’avais réservé une sous-compacte et ils m’ont donné une Camry pour le même prix, ce qui faisait bien mon affaire. Mais…, je ne parle pas très bien l’anglais et en me donnant le document à signer avec un montant approximatif, je lui ai demandé s’il s’agissait d’un dépôt de garantie qu’ils prendraient sur ma carte et il m’a dit que oui, j’ai alors signé. Ce n’est qu’à mon retour que je me suis aperçue qu’ils m’avaient facturé 300$ de plus! Leur réponse? J’aurais accepté de prendre une assurance! Je ne suis pas bonne en anglais mais j’aurais assurément compris s’il me l’avait proposé clairement, et comme j’ai déjà des assurances j’aurais évidemment refusé! J’ai souvent loué des voitures au Canada et aux États Unis, en anglais, et JAMAIS je n’ai accepté d’assurances! Et je n’ai JAMAIS eu aucuns problèmes! Je suis EXTRÊMEMENT déçu! Ils ont clairement profité du fait que je ne parle pas bien l’anglais. Et pour couronner le tout, ils osent me facturer de l’essence alors que j’ai fais le plein (qui a même été approuvé par la personne en charge) avant de retourner la voiture et une taxe supplémentaire de 47$ d’aéroport? !? Bref, à moins de n’avoir aucun autre choix, je vous conseille fortement d’aller voir ailleurs, particulièrement si vous ne parlez pas bien l’anglais.

I had a comfortable experience while renting a Buick Enclave. It was perfect for going on road trips that take up lots of time, and provided a safe experience. Customer service was extremely polite.

Been waiting for more that an hour to get our vehicle, something has to be improved in how you guys provide the service, because it's unacceptable. Can't you guys automate at least part of the process? If you don't have service agents than that's the next best thing. But I guess you don't really care because you will get business anyway, right?

Pickup location was very Convenient in a walking distance from terminal and car was clean and ready to go. But you have to expect a wait time of 20-30min to pickup the car.

Stop at a different rental company before this place. If you did book with AVIS things you may experience include, dirty vehicles, over charging, extra charges to your card days later and an endless loop of call centres telling you how wrong you are when they just randomly charge you extra.

Update: Was finally contacted about this issue and a refund for the days not rented was send back to us. Thank you Avis. We appreciate it when expectations are met.

The agent at the desk stayed late and waited for our flight to come in. Really appreciated the extra effort.

This is a complaint against Avis head office. Not happy. Booked car for 13 days. Then we needed to change our flight home so had to return the car 3 days early. I called Avis call centre 1 week ahead of time and informed them. They told me there would be an adjustment made to the invoice. When returning the car I was told this wasn't the case and they indicated I should take this up with head office. Tried calling and put on hold for 22 minutes while they tried to get someone from billing. Then hung up on me. Then I emailed them and they told me they would not refund any money. I asked them to show me in the contract where this policy of not pro-rating the rental is located but no response. Not professional not fair way to deal with clients.

I've always had great service with Avis but this past rental was above and beyond Excellent! My flight was arriving after the counter closed and Kenny Wong called me ahead of time to make the necessary arrangements and instructions on how to get my car. His instructions were perfect. When I arrived Bilal stayed late to ensure I got my car. He had it pulled right up to the curb in front of the counter and I was driving off within minutes of arriving! Considering how late and tired I was I really appreciated their efforts. A huge thank you to both gentlemen!

Bad experience when returning a car. I called up avis customer service and gave them my agreement number. The reservation was for 31 days but I asked if I could get it reduced and pro-rated for 30 days. They checked out the reservation and said yes, the total would be 30-40$ less than what it was. On returning, was told customer service on the phone is wrong and my rate is a monthly corporate rate so the charge is the same for 28-31 days and that there is nothing they can do. If this was the case, they should've told me that when I called and I would've kept it another day. Not good customer service.

I had a great experience dropping off and picking up another car from avis when we drove from calgary to vancouver. Staff was great. Friendly. Super easy to drop off in vancouver. No issues. Beauty.

Best rates among all of the major rental companies for the vehicle I rented.

The customer service I had received from the moment I was walking into the car rental building from Shon - my Avis representative was absolutely amazing. He answered any questions I had about Vancouver and tire information, making me feel comfortable in my rental during my stay. I cannot say enough good things about Shon - courteous, helpful, friendly, funny - great employee to represent Avis! Great vehicle, no problems.

My reservation was not fulfilled I reserved a full size but received a up grade. But my credit card rental insurance doesn't approve of vehicles over a specific amount in case of an accident or damage. Shame on Avis for doing that putting myself in a situation if an accident or damage does happen. Very disappointed. Also BMW car seats suck. Very uncomfortable

The car you gave me smelled of gas all the time and the engine made way too much noise while driving and an idle. The service engine light came on constantly and beeped for the first couple of minutes from starting the vehicle, and sometimes randomly when I was driving. You guys rented me a lemon.

2nd time in a month time where my vehicle type is nonexistent.
First time in September, I prepaid for a full size sedan.
They offered me a Hyundai Elantra.
I refused and they told me that I will be offered a refund and to go somewhere else (? !? !)

After that experience, I contacted Avis multiple times to get this resolved and they assured me that I would be given the vehicle type I prepaid for, otherwise be offered a complimentary upgrade at no extra cost.

In October, I reserved/prepaid for a full size sedan once again.
I arrived and was told that they got none.
So they offered me a Kia Sorento.
Thats a 7seater SUV and I didnt feel comfortable driving such huge car in the city.
So now he offered me a Nissan Sentra.
If I am not mistaken, that is a compact-midsize sedan.
I did not want to get a downgrade.
He said he had nothing else to offer other than SUV.
That being the case, I asked for a smaller SUV like a BMW X1 or MB GLA etc.
He said he could give me X1 at no extra cost as a courtesy gesture (? !? !)
You did not have a car I prepaid for, and you are making it seem like you are doing me a favour.haha
Anyways I accepted the X1 and wanted to get LDW (which I was told it would be 30.00$/day)
Now the guy says that its 40.00$/day since X1 is a premium vehicle. Sigh.
I didnt want to waste time with this unhelpful staff as I had limited time in YVR.
Will be in contact with Avis Customer Care ONCE AGAIN and probably spend another week trying to resolve this.
There are other rental companies available at YVR.try avoiding Avis.

Ps/ do NOT reserve fullsize sedan because they never have any.

Avis @ YVR Vancouver Airport is absolutely a pleasure to rent with, got an upgrade from the staff, as this season is not busy I guess. Vehicle is very clean and properly sanitized. Will use again!

Website is very misleading, when I got all the way to the airport to get what I thought was a Dodge Charger I ended up getting a Hyunday because the Dodge’s picture on the website is only to “set the car type”.
