I stopped in to get a ringer burger, was told by a clearly uninformed employee that “the promotion ended two weeks ago” I then replied with “that’s incorrect as my friend and I just had one two days ago”. He then responded with “oh well it’s just while supplies last” to which i responded with “hmm funny as it’s just an onion ring and some barbecue sauce”. Will not be coming back to this location as they are clearly uninformed and do not care about customers.

Did not have the nationally promoted iced lattes that I was hoping to try. But the frozen root beer was delicious

Last Friday night (oct 21) about 5: 30, my son and I went through the drive through to order dinner. There was a sign on the speaker indicating due to staffing there maybe a wait. I was completely fine with this.

I observed a staff person with headset on walking thought the restaurant and moments later he took our order. We drove to the pick up window and I saw the same staff member service a customer at the counter. He then turned around, took our payment and said he'd be right back. A couple minutes later, he was loading food into our bag and off we went.

I think the whole process took just over 5 minutes. I said to my son, I think he was the only person working in there other than the cook.

Completely impressed. There were people in the restaurant and in the drive through. The staff person was calm and polite. Kudos to him for holding down the fort and keeping his cool during a busy time I'm so sorry, I didn't get his name.

Customer service was sub par. Did not get a fork with my food, and when I went to ask for one I stood there and they didn't acknowledge me until I spoke to him. My poutine was a lump of cheese and drowned in gravy. I'm surprised that the box held together. Burger was alright but a little messy in bag untouched. Service has definitely gone down hill here and I recommend going to Ladysmith's A&W

The food was disgusting two different times I went to this restaurant location tonight I ordered a Teen burger with no onions or pickles and fries and gravy. My fries were cold and dry as f and my for the teen burger the cheese wasn't even melted and the burger was cold and dry too and soggy tomato and brown lettuce.

My first visit I actually went into the restaurant in the morning and I was literally waiting for like 25 minutes for one hashbrown which the guy who got to work after I've been waiting had actually "cooked" it but when I got home all 4 hashbrown were raw and the sausage and egger and bacon and egger were not edible at all so I give this restaurant location two thumbs way down

Slowest A&W I've ever experienced and staff are not professional or friendly. It's the closest one to my house but I won't be returning, I'd rather drive the extra 15 minutes i've been sitting in line for approximately 40 minutes and still don't have my food or drink. This is the worst occasion but the other times I've been here have been nearly as bad.

Can't beat A&W breakfast the best fast food breakfast experience you can find with the greatest hashbrowns. Their burgers are no slouch either, love the grass fed beef and healthy/fast food experience

Slow, rude, and not helpful. The old manager was significantly better. Begging customers for good reviews in exchange for Apple Turn Overs is extremely unprofessional.

Worked here, cleanliness is not that bad, staff are all speaking over each other in Punjabi. Can't grasp the basics of a new job when I don't know what the others are saying. Online training takes like 8 unpaid hours and is useless, as on the job is much more fulfilling. Plus side is we smoked some good weed at night, they even brought some Indian food for me to try.

Love a good chubby chicken burger with lots of mayo. Yam fries are the best with the Chipotle mayo! Top it off with a old fashioned root beer. Yum

Somehow consistently the WORST A&W I’ve ever been too. Forgets part of my order and really horribly made burgers. They should be ashamed and get their franchise license pulled

Undercooked frozen in middle hashbrown, no ketchup available when asked, got bacon egger instead of sausage egger. Would've gone back to get new order but we were behind schedule, wont be going back anyway

Drive thru only! Unless you want to walk on filthy floors with bags of garbage and old greasy equipment randomly sitting by the ordering counter. This junk has been here for quite a while now. To top it off, staff taking my order never apologized for the 10+ minutes it took for them to make ONE burger, nothing else. The drive thru was extremely quiet. I witnessed the only two customers in the drive thru try to be friendly and wave, smile or greet the window person, but she maintained a poker face the whole time. Maybe they were just having a bad day?
I will give them one more try and update this review accordingly.

I will NEVER be stopping at this location again. Floors we're so greasy and slippery I watched two people fall, old deep fryer, boxes and full bread crates left on the floor in the lobby. Took 15min to get breakfast! If you are headed out of Nanaimo head for the Oyster Bay location

This A&W is the worst. They never ever give you the fries or dips you pay for. Doesn't matter if you order drive through, inside, or SKIP the Dishes. They rip you off and don't give you your fries every single time. I have 7 SKIP orders where we didn't get fries. We ordered 8 times and the only reason we got them the one time was because I wrote on the order not to forget them. We have done drive through 3 times in 3 weeks in Oct. All 3 times they have given us 1 order of fries, when we ordered 3. At this point you have to assume it is happening on purpose. Tonight they said they needed to make more to fill our order after we already waited 20 mins. The 20 mins wasn't the issue. Just give us what we ordered for crying out loud!

Poor Service if your driving through nanaimo travelling don’t stop here keep driving. Had to wait for our meal and husband went to check and was yelled at “yes! Gonna be ready still making it! ” Waited and cold hashbrowns!

One meal ended up costing me $36.94 because I was in a hurry & didn't have the time to explain her mistake.

Go there lots but the last few months every time I go there they try to rip me off. Tried to short my order 8 out of the last 10 times I have gone there. Back to dairy queen they don't try to steal my money

This restaurant is famous among my friends for being the very worst on the island.
Don't go here. Go to subway, or Tim Hortons, or eat some gum off the sidewalk. Anything is better than this A and W. Death is better.

Food is fine but English comprehension is not. Asked for 3 burgers in store to go, 2 with tomato, 1 without. Got all 3 without.

Had to wait a long time for 2 momma burgers late night only 3 cars
And didn't have change had to give my change to them. Slow slow slow

This is one of the most efficient A&W restaurants that I have ever seen. Kudos to its crew!

Old cold chicken strips and the onion rings just fell apart.gravy tasted burnt. I usually enjoy a&w but not this location.

One of the worst ones I've been to. Forgot my order completely, I stood waiting for 20 mins and then asked about it, and they hadn't started. The takeout bag was ripped open and they just handed it to me like that, so I had to hold it underneath, not a big deal of course, but kind of a bizarre experience to be handed a ripped open bag. The food was fine, I've had much better at A&W though. My friend's order was all wrong, as in not even the same menu items. She didn't care so she just ate them.

Worst A&W I’ve been to. We waited 20 mins to order and 40 mins for our food. They didn’t have all of the stuff in the bag we had to ask for ketchup salt pepper despite them saying it’s in the bag. We ordered 3 classics and only received cutlery for two. We were told they don’t have syrup after giving us a cold pancake. Bacon was soaking in oil. We were told we will get our coffees after and they came when we were done. This location is a disgrace to the franchise.

The 10th street location is always super slow I have never gone there and not have had to wait for less than 5 min and their attention to detail is unfortunately none existant.

I ordered and we got our food left because it drive throw noticed missing stuff we back more less called us a liar and talk to the manager same thing we asked for number to call so they gave us a burger and Fry's still not everything they told us to go and never go back

Worst a&w in town unsanitary and not food safe i went the other day for breakfast my sausages were literally cold not just room temperature. Cold like they just came out of the fridge or freezer cooked on one side. Then the girl had the nerve to try to argue with me about giving me a refund.

What a great stop for a very hot huger and a very cold drink, no ice just flavor. So happy I stopped and was able to enjoy all of this A&W’s obvious extra efforts for a great customer experience. I will be back.

I wish that i could rate this lower, 4/5 times they mess up the order and end up forgetting AT LEAST one item, the staff are not friendly or considerate, the wait times have gotten worse, this is all since the new management took over this location and it is awful. Avoid Southgate at all costs, go downtown save yourself the trouble. Also their hours are reduced more then other stores, making the experience all the more frustrating.
After three incorrect orders with missing items i will not be going back. Forgotten fries, uncle burger and two turnovers. Not insignificant.

I went through the drivethru, I ordered 4 poutines. Everyone knows they come in cardboard containers.well not sure what they were thinking packing them on the sides instead of stacking them. I had gravy seeped out everywhere, the bag ripped, it was a horrible mess! Oh and I order a plain mama burger and it wasn't even plain! So horrible! Worse A&W location I've been to. Not good!

A&w is one of my favourite. My favourite thing to buy is the ice cream and apple pie. Their burgers are also really good. The staff is always friendly and helpful and it is fast when you go through the drive thru. The prices at times I think our little expensive but not any more than a McDonald's. A&w food is more fresh. I definitely recommend this fast food restaurant.

Worst service i have had from an A&W ever. Service was beyond reasonably slow. Fries were only warm and soggy. I not sure if staff too new or not enough. Over 30 mins for a papa combo. I am patient and understanding normally. However this was beyond reasonable patience since it was not extremely busy

Sorry but no, I don't think I'll be going here again unless I'm desperate. I stood at the counter for five minutes, maybe more, without anyone helping me at all, or even saying "I'll be with you in a minute" no acknowledgement whatsoever. I got my food wayy after other people who ordered behind me. Then they forgot my drink. I wouldn't be so annoyed if I wasn't on a tight timeline.

Used the drive through, had to park and wait, they gave us someone else's order as well as our own Fortunately we caught it and WE passed it on to the correct customer. Food was good though.

DON'T ORDER THE ONION RINGS
This is the 2nd time I have ordered their onion rings
and the last. The salt content makes the onion rings
in-eatable. I returned them to the counter and told the
girl at the till whose only response was I am sorry. The
management of this A & W needs to train their staff on
how to deal with complainants. I have ordered the onion
rings at many A & W's and have never had such salty ones.
