Bao Bei

Got the tasting menu and was very disappointed. All the dishes were overloaded with soy and vinegar, leaving the palate drenched.
The bao was the star, but new menu additions (per staff) of mushroom tempura and the local caught halibut were duds.
The omelette was a strange inclusion, and only par cooked.

The service here was fabulous, quick and helpful. Drinks were delicious along with the food. I would recommend checking out this restaurant.

Amazing food, and so accommodating to gluten free needs. But above all truly exceptional service. Made the whole experience part of the treat! A+

The staff was so nice and accommodating. We had a tough request on the timing of our reservation and they made it happen even though they were slammed. Service was amazing. The food was incredible as well. Get the fried rice with an egg!

Way too expensive for what you get. Better off walking 30 seconds down the road and getting some authentic China town food

Best beef tartare anywhere. No lie. France? Who cares. Bao Bei knocks it out of the park. And the taro chips are the perfect accompaniment.

Shan tofu and shao bing are ridiculously good as well. Pork belly too…the hard part about dining at Bao Bei is narrowing down what plates to get! If you’ve got the chance, go with a group and reserve the beautiful round family table at the back and order it all!

It’s been close to eight years since I’ve lived in Vancouver, but this is the food I dream of. I recommend this joint to everyone that visits Vancouver. And I will I always make a point to go to Bao Bei when back in town.

Sit at the bar and drink a chino margarita, perhaps a piña colada (both totally redefine the classic) and of course a customized cocktail from one of the stellar bartenders. Be careful though, the drinks are so good that I’ve overindulged here a few times…yet the staff were still gracious as!

Just go. Eat and drink and be charmed by the beautiful room and the food and the service and maybe squeeze in a game of street fighter while waiting for your table or seat at the bar.

Can’t wait for my next visit!

The meal was good. Everything we ordered was fresh and had unique flavors. The sake was crisp and had a very nice kick but still fruity. Star to us was the fried rice. Our waiter was great! The best part of the whole experience. We were impressed and would highly recommend.

Should try it once or twice, if you haven't thrice already! It gets better every time.

Just finished dining in and it was one of the worst experiences I had with regards to how long it took for them to prepare the food and bring it out. We sat down and ordered right away and got out appetizers around 25-30min after we ordered, and it took then over 45 minutes after receiving our appetizers for them to start preparing our main dishes which is very disappointing. We talked to the manager about the experience but it was still disappointing at the end and after visiting multiple times here, I don’t think I will go again.

Amazing Chinese restaurant inside Chinatown. We had the mantou buns and the steamed pork dumplings. Honestly the best buns I’ve had for a long time. Also the staff there is super friendly!

Food and drinks were on point. Bar tender made the night super fun. Must have the piña colada if you go. We had fish dumplings, fried rice and pea tips. All were super tasty.

My first time at Bao Bei after hearing amazing things.

It did not disappoint at all! The food was great, my girlfriend and I shared multiple plates. The beef tartare was arguably the best in Vancouver, and the fried rice with the omelet was delicious!

If you’re looking for top notch Chinese, with great cocktails, Bao Bei is the place!

I was excited to try out this place, as per the reviews and wanted to try this fusion asian cuisine. I really enjoyed the service, she was helpful and described in detail about the food we ordered. I felt that was the strong part of this experience

Now, moving on to the not so good experience. I felt i was going to get a decent serving size for the price we are paying. (15$) for 5 dumplings or (23$) for 2 small mantou. This is kind of ridiculous, i really wasn't expecting snack size out of these prices. We also ordered Thai Chili chicken, Deep fried Tofu and Brocolli stir fry, the end bill came down to 95$. The taste is ok, it is nothing i havent tasted before for cheaper, and because of that it left me feeling really disappointed and ended up eating at Macdonald afterward to fill myself up.

Good but not likely to come back soon. Some of the items were borderline too salty or missing an acid. I do appreciate how much cilantro and garnishes they put though. Service was great. Drinks are good here too. I like how the dishes are small so you can order variety.

This is a great place to meet with friends or to have a romantic dinner. The family table in the back is such a special place where you really engage with your group. The food is delicious and always on point. Try the chino Margherita!

Awesome experience. Beautiful restaurant with great food. Sat at the bar. The bartender Jason was amazing. Not only was he friendly and kind, he went through the menu and helped us order a feast. He also expertly prepared a variety of cocktails for us- super creative and delicious. Excellent service, cocktails and food. Highly recommend.

Always excellent. Mantou still as good as they were when they opened. Chili fried chicken was a surprise highlight. And great cocktails as always.

Good food, great drinks, awesome service. Went in for a late night "snack" as we stayed across the street. We started our experience at the a-door-able corner waiting table. Partner got the Four Winds Saison and I got the Chino Margarita. I don't like margaritas but this was one of my favorite drinks all vacations. As for food we started with the shao bing that had a healthy portion of lamb and was perfectly cooked with a well balanced flavor. The pork and prawn wontons in the spicy male dressing came highly recommended but honestly was a huge let down with an unbalanced overpowering sauce. Last was the Crispy rice cake which although was not crispy (misnomer) tasted amazing. I enjoyed this meal so much that I forced myself to leave some so I could take it home and eat it at the end of our night on the town. It tasted just as delicious as leftovers and I went to bed happy and full.

Despite taking a painfully long time to arrive, the food is top notch. With the addition of a great atmosphere and excellent service, Bao Bei is one of the best dining experiences we’ve had.

Really quite fantastic! Top items (in no particular order) were the pork and porchini dumplings, marinated eggplant, sticky rice cakes, and the amazing bubble tea egg tart (really something else). The mantou buns were good but not quite as special as the other items. Excited to go back and try the rest!

Fantastic dinner. Everything was wonderful. Great service, delish dishes and a fun night all together. Very welcoming atmosphere.

For how much the meal cost, it wasn't worth it. So many people recommended and we just don't understand why. We shared 5 dishes and we were still hungry after, it was $120. Would not go back, however the service was good & the atmosphere was cool.

Great place to go on a date. The cocktails are amazing and the food is like nothing else I have tasted in Vancouver. The dishes are best shared.

Lovely place, first time visiting in around 7 years. You pay a good price for the food but it's all top notch. The drinks are fantastic and the service is homely. Would love to go back. One thing to note is that if you have a mushroom allergy, a good number of the items on the menu will be off-limits to you.
