BC Bee Supply

This place is a hidden gem and needs more exposure. They have courses for honey bees, mason bees, and now vermicomposting (worm composting). They have 2 locations, the one by mockabout has all the supplies you need to have honey bees or mason bees, at the honey hut is where they hold their courses, and sell lots of honey goodies, from honeycombs, to honey, infused honey, pollen, etc. This is local honey that has not been pasteurized and has all the benefits we need!

I took the Beeswax Candle Making class with Ninna - it was lovely and a lot of fun! I learned a lot about different kinds of wax and their properties, DIY Candle molds, and how to make different types of candles, of course.

Lots of laughs, and a very enjoyable time, plus some amazing smelling stuff to take home. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested, especially if you're inexperienced with beeswax like I was!:)

Purchased several packages. Confirmed that dead or failing queens would be replaced and was told he had 16 queens for that purpose on pick up. Called on installation to say one queen was damaged and failing and would need to be replaced. He agreed to set one aside after a trial period. Reassess the queen and while others had laid 3 to 4 frames she had laid maybe 40 cells and they were making cells to replace her. When I went in to pick up my replacement queen Winston insisted I pay for the queen. When I asked is she not a replacement queen he offered $10 off.

The failing queen was dead on her landing board by the time I got home.

Beekeeping for 44 years. Never seen packaged queens not replaced free of charge before when dead or failed. Urban bees guarantees their queens and replaces without question so long as they have them.

UPDATE! So, today was a hive check after installing a new nuc from elsewhere and if needed to release the queen. I was saddened to see one of my queens died, but that means my hive has been queen less for days now and having dealt with a laying worker nightmare twice before- i was not risking this again not to mention the bees were testy-I had a problem. I started calling around to Bee supply places and BC bee supply answered- they had queens! I was going to hop in my car, drive to the ferries dump my car there, bus into Vancouver (turns out It would have been Burnaby as I thought they were in downtown Vancouver but I guess Hastings st is HUGE). I would have made it home around 1 am doing this. Jeremy from BC Bee went ABOVE AND BEYOND! He mentioned harbour air as a way to get them here. I was thinking they were down town maybe they were across the st. I was so very very wrong. Jeremy drove those bees from Burnaby into Vancouver and had them flown to me TODAY. To say I am impressed is the understatement of the year. His kindness left me a puddle of tears all afternoon. Jeremy checked in multiple times with me and then later on Winston messaged me to make sure everything went smoothly. I have never had customer service like this ever before. BC Bee supply will get all the business I can give them. I couldn't be happier or more grateful. Thank you all.

Great place to start a hobby. It's someone's garage off an alley in Burnaby. Kind of neat, actually. I get my mason bees from here.

Amazing knowledge and support! Attended the 2 day beekeeping course with Winston - very knowledgeable & passionate as well as practical! They have set me up with all the essentials including a NUC - would highly recommend for anyone interested in getting into beekeeping!
