Definitely a place to go when you're looking for a furry friend to add as the newest family member. People working here are helpful, kind, caring individuals - with good hearts & gentle spirit's.
Please give these most beautiful little creatures another chance. Thank you.

I rescued a cat that was dying and needed help. They released all my personal information to the owners of the cat, now I've dealt witha year of fighting with a neighbor and felling uncomfortable in my own yard. I will be seeking legal action as they gave me the worst apology I've ever heard, absolute trash.

We adopted Zeus 4 years ago from Nanaimo SPCA. We loved the staff had no problems. Zeus is our precious king. Then 2 years ago we adopted Oden who was a sibling to 4 or 5 his name from SPCA was brussel sprout. No way was I having a dog called BS. Both dogs are wonderful. I'm not allowed to go in there at SPCA hubbies afraid I'd adopt all. Keep up the good work you have our support.

Unfortunately not a good experience at this particular SPCA. I have been a long time supporter of the SPCA having adopted all my past fur babies there (Courtenay, Nanaimo, and Cowichan). All of them have been loved and cared for until their natural deaths. This past weekend I found myself in a very difficult situation separating from my husband who said he'd take the cat but at the last minute decided against. I was up against the wall and could not take her where I was going. House sold, moving to where I cannot have a pet. I was going to surrender her at this shelter but they were not very friendly. I felt judged and dismissed.it was hard enough to have to do this without having to deal with the pushback. I was told "that's not the way it works you need an appointment" and I have to fill out "paperwork" and it would be "assessed and they'd call me if it was a good fit". I had to ask for the paperwork. Strangely these forms had no place for me to write my name and telephone number? I ended up putting it on the top. Walked out of there very disappointed. Called around scrambling to find someone to take her. Luckily Kathleen @ Catspan stepped in. I donated all the revolution flea medicine, food, scratching post.everything i had. Plus i donated $200 to cover vet fees to CatSpan instead!

Spca is the same everywhere they say they care about animals but they're just overpayed government workers who don't care about their jobs or helping animals

We named a stray cat after she came back every winter for 11 yrs. This year she was injured so we called spca and they took her to get checked out by a Vet. Thankyou.

Amazing place. Puts thought into who they adopt to to make sure it's a good fit. When they find a good fit they'll get er dun!

My kitty, Cassiel was hit by a vehicle and passed away. The lady's that work there were very special and caring. My daughter is going to use Cassiel ashes in the tatoo she's getting in memory of him.

They allowed a pit bull under HEAVY sedition to be adopted by a family with a four year old. They did do the right thing though in returning all of the adoption fees once the dog showed that he was sedated for a reason
My response to your response for my original comment is that yes the dog was heavily sedated he, is on 100 mg twice a day of Trazodone that is a painkiller not an anti-anxiety medication. I have never known even an adult human being to be on 200 milligrams of Trazodone in a 24-hour period indefinately.

Adopting our Charlie from the Parksville SPCA was such a lovely experience. We were given alone visit time with him, and provided with as much history on him as one could expect. The people here were all so friendly, accommodating and helpful. There is no question they all genuinely care about the animals, and are dedicated to finding proper forever homes.

Lame, couldn't even see the animals they had, just photos because apparently visiting the animals "stresses them out" exact words from the staff
