Always a fun experience at Beachcomber. Low tide exposes geological wonders - millions of years old, and imbedded fossils. The beach is lovely for a picnic too! A nice potty makes it perfect.

Great little beach. It curves out far enough that you can see the sunset in the winter. The rock formations are really interesting

Amazing beach, cool outcrop of rocks which has some tidepools. One beach has larger rocks and the other, around the corner, has small fine rocks. This place is not wheelchair accessible.

July 10/2023. Great spot for some nice views. On this side of the peninsula you face west in protected water. Low tide is best to hike around. A eagle was nesting high in the pines

This is a pretty spot to explore. We got here via Kayak, launched from Wall Beach about a kilometer away, as there is no real access to launch from Beachcomber park. It looks like it may be a steep access from the road and trail down. On the beach, there is a south area which is in shade in the afternoon, and a north area which is in sun. There is plenty of flat rock to walk or sit on in the sun on the north area, and we noticed benches positioned a bit higher up, near the trail access.
For those coming from the water, the wind and the current between Cottam point and Mistaken Island can be fairly significant. Mistaken Island is also privately owned, and by someone who values their privacy, so venturing to this destination means exploring above the tidal line is discouraged by no trespassing signs. It's also very rocky, and not a forgiving location to venture ashore. The wind cutting between the point and the island whips up a significant swell for small craft. It is best to stay in the bay behind the point, where the park is situated.

Thousands of starfish, saw sea lions as well. Fun to explore and a nice change from parksville's other beaches.

We love the views and diversity of this place which is close to our home town of Nanaimo. Sea lions, seals, starfish and bald eagles are just some of the wildlife we always see there. It's part of the banana belt which means it's strangley warm in the winter. If you go to the sheltered side you can actually feel the sun warm you up. I recommend a quiet winter walk around the area.
