Best Western Plus Sands

Nice place with affordable prices to stay for a little while in downtown vancouver. Clean, tidy, and quiet room. Many shops including Starbucks are nearby! Plus, it's really close to English Bay Beach and Stanley Park. Great place for the price.

Other than that, three minor concerns from my experience.

First, we selected a room with a partial ocean view option. It was like only 10 cms of that in width could be seen. Don't expect something super ocean-ic.

Secondly, the bottom of the room's door was a little bit open, or, let's say. I could see the light coming in from there. Maybe some door improvements could be done?

Last thing is that toothbrushes are not offered in the room. Okay, so I went downstairs to see if there's any. They did offer us some toothbrushes. Unfortunately I don't have the photo but.they looked like $0.1 stuffs. Brush was really poorly made, and I could taste blood inside my mouth! Just to add the context, I'm a light brusher. So bring your own toothbrush or expect this.

Normally I'm not one to post reviews in general but not even 2 hours into checking in and the prominent mouse problem rose it's head. Was watching TV and a mouse just ran across the floor. Thankfully the front desk staff member was super kind and apologetic and immediately switched me to another floor and room (which is even better for me at least since my last room was directly in front of the elevator). We'll see if any more mice pop up through the next few nights of my stay. Was offered either free breakfast the next morning or 20% off my nights stay (a single night, not total) so I took the 20%. Just be aware that there is a very real possibility of seeing mice. I'm not super fazed by it seeing as I'll just be using the room to sleep plus had a mouse situation when I moved into my own home recently but still, not great. I'll likely update the reviews depending on how the rest of the nights go.

We had a great stay here. The staff were friendly and very helpful. The location was perfect. The beach was right there (English Beach) and Stanley Park was close by. There was an amazing gelateria across the street, a bike rental place and tons of restaurants. Safeway was up the street a few blocks and a great bakery. Bus stop right at the hotel entrance made it quick and easy to get around (great public transport system there). Our room was good, clean and we had a balcony with a beautiful view of the bay and the sunsets. The beds were comfortable and the bathroom was clean. My only complaint was that our room was too hot. The heat seemed to be stuck on and wouldn't shut off. We called maintenance but all they said was they could give us a fan and to crank the A/C- which to me, seemed wasteful. We also opted for the room service to be everywhere day (as mentioned to us at check in). But they didn't come and when I went down to the desk they said it was every third night. Kinda annoying but we asked for extra towels and toilet paper and we were fine. They have a workout room and dry sauna on the first floor and an on site restaurant where we participated in their weekly trivia night- had fun but need to be 19+. They're is no free breakfast included but there are tons of places to eat or grab some groceries and use the hotel room fridge- it was a decent size and would hold a large round fruit tray inside easily. Overall, when we return, we will stay here again.

Great location, and our room had a balcony. Rooms were clean although a bit small. Room had microwave and a fridge and there’s a Safeway up the road if you’re looking to save money on food costs.

BEWARE! An over sized suite is nothing more than just a normal room with a pull out dingy sofa bed. We were expecting a suite, a but more space for 6 adults. SO disappointing. DONT fall for the same tricks I fell for.

Great place to stay. Just awesome friendly staff. Close to everything. Beach, shops and restaurants. A place across the road to rent bikes. Nice covered little patio with a pool table and corn hole games (I am sure there is more). The front rooms have a nice side view of the beach with all the large cargo ships waiting to enter port. Looks nice at night with the ships decks all lit up. I also have to say that the public transit in this city is second to none. There is a bus stop right out front the hotel.

Travelled to Vancouver last month and stayed at the Best Western Sands. Fantastic service right from check in to check out! Location is hard to beat with English Bay across the street, Robson a couple blocks away and near Stanley Park. Dallas and his staff are professional, dedicated and did everything to ensure our stay was enjoyable.including to make sure there were enough parking spots. Will certainly be back sooner than later.

Hotel in a very favorable position near the sea and Stanley Park, standard service, large room but with noisy air conditioning!

I was in love with this hotel! It’s right next to the beach, it has some really fun interior design, and the service was above and beyond truly. They seriously had someone standing by the front door who opened the door for me every time I came out or in. Talk about being made to feel like a guest! The whole time they were just so accommodating and nice and helpful. They gym was small, but also, it’s a 3 minute walk from the beach so why wouldn’t you just go running there? That’s what I did. The sauna was incredible tho. I really loved it here 5 stars y’all rock!

We stayed at the Best Western for 4 nights in May. The hotel is very centrally located right on English Bay Beach and just minutes away from Stanley Park. Bus station and bike rental directly in front of/next to the hotel.
Although you can tell that the hotel is already a few years old, it is well maintained with a few exceptions. (follows below)

The lobby as well as the entrance area are functional. There are 2 lifts but they are extremely slow. (It's faster with the hidden stairs.)

In our room, we couldn't close the left window completely because a bracket was torn off. Windows could be cleaned more if necessary, they are very dirty from the outside. The air conditioning is very loud and therefore annoying, especially if you are a light sleeper.

Otherwise, the room is large, the beds are very comfortable and it has a refrigerator (empty) and enough sockets (directly on the bedside table.
The bathroom is big enough, but the shower head either didn't work properly or we were too stupid to leave the "outer" edge of it on.

The staff was polite.

What I find very positive is that you have the option of doing without room service. There is then a 15 dollar voucher per day, which can be redeemed in the pub in the hotel or in a bar near the hotel (sunset bar). (Because let's be honest.who needs someone to make your bed every day on a city trip.)

Great customer service, comfortable bed, and great shower! The hotel could do with a little repair and refresh work, i.e. The elevator buttons and floor indicators do not light up, but otherwise, a great little hotel, in a fantastic location!

The pub food is absolutely disgusting - this used to be decent place, yet they've gone completely down hill. Had lunch today and our Asian waitress with limited English could only point at menu items, respond with 'ok' and smile. Our burgers where beyond gross.thick dry "beef" patty, wilted lettuce, old hard bacon served with large cut greasy fries. No effort, care or attention - perhaps the dishwasher made it due to being short staffed? Upon entering the hotel lobby, we saw a male staff member with a grocery bag filled with provisions scurrying towards the kitchen - how tacky! I guess they expect their customers to be drunk in order to eat the garbage they shovel out? Very, very disappointing as a Westend local of 30 years to experience the deteriation of what was once upon a time, a great place to eat when they actually took pride in their food quality. Will not return or recommend going forward.

Really great location, the rooms aren't the highest quality but you get what you pay for. It's an okay hotel in a phenomenal location. My experience was good. Nothing special but nothing to complain about either. I'd come back for sure.

In a great location! The Davie Village is fantastic and the hotel is in a nice central location to Stanley Park and the beach. The staff were super friendly and helpful, the pub in the hotel had good food. Will definitely stay here again

The hotel infrastructure itself was okay. While the rooms were small, they were decently clean and provided everything a standard hotel could offer. However, the check-in and out process proved to be very frustrating for our group which costed us a lot of stress during our trip.

Old and dirty. The night clerk that checked us in was rude and dismissive. Only positives were the convenient location and numerous taxis nearby.

The views from the 5th floor are tremendous! With a balcony right there close by, you can't help get up early and enjoy a cup of coffee followed by a great reading. The bed was very comfortable! Great job, BWPS!

Old & dusty feeling (specially in public areas), always too crowded, expensive, small parking. AC was noisy but didn’t really cool down the room.

I don’t have much experience with high-end hotels for reference here, but I really enjoyed my stay.

Wonderful location and rooms are nicely renovated. Unfortunately the noise levels were annoying from both inside and outside the hotel. If you mind noise, this place won't be for you.

Clean and large room, friendly staff, fast wifi and a central location with beach and sea views. Parking at CAD 22.50 per day directly behind the hotel.
All in all a bit old, but perfectly fine - clear recommendation!

A perfect hotel to stay at in downtown Vancouver. The room was spacious, decorated very tastefully and the bed was incredible. To top it off the staff is friendly and willing to help out with requests. If I'm back in Vancouver I know where I'm staying!

Rooms were outdated, horrible view from our room. We booked a king bed, ended up with 2 doubles.
Location was killer, right in the middle of everything, walking distance to restaurants, beachs, parks, grocery stores, pubs, etc. Busy little area, but lots to do.

The hotel had nice rooms, good service. It's right by the beach, tons to see and do. But it is Vancouver, you'll meet some interesting people right there just outside the lobby.
