We had an amazing experience at Black Forest! Delicious food and impeccable service. Had schnitzel here and can say it was as satisfying as the ones I had in Austria. Ended up coming here multiple times during our trip to Harrison Hot Springs:)

Great food. I had the Hungarian goulash and my wife had schnitzel, both were good. Staff was all very attentive as well and made sure to take care of you.

Lived in Germany for 10 years and this restaurant reminds me so much of ‘home’. Schnitzel was amazing & available in poultry for this non red meat eater, traditional schnitzel, Spätzle & red cabbage meal (if the Spätzle would be home made this place would be off the charts!), German beer was tapped, cold and delicious. Add being able to sit on the patio on a sunny day with the view of the lake and it can’t be beat. Excellent, professional and quick service. Always my go to place when I’m feeling nostalgic about Germany or just want a delicious schnitzel dinner!

Black Forest is truly the best restaurant in Harrison! My partner and I stayed in the town for two nights, and we were going to try two separate restaurants for dinner, but we ended up going back to Black Forest again the second night because it was so irresistibly good! We recommend sitting on the patio, it's awesome! The staff are kind and charming too. The schnitzel was THE best we've ever had. We'd honestly drive all the way back to Harrison Hot Springs in the future just to eat at Black Forest again. Yum!

I fell in love with schnitzels! I chose the Madagascar one, served with a delicious green peppercorns and mushroom sauce. Loves the side red cabbage as week and seasonal vegetables. My husband had the goulash and the German dumpling (spreatzel?) with that wonderful mushroom sauce again. Our table was in the glass patio with a wonderful lake view - we highly recommend this place if you have a good appetite - we did!

Traditional German restaurant with exceptional schnitzel! The decoration inside is lovely and the patio has great view of the lake specially the terrace. Food is super delicious, schnitzel very well done as the true German style, prices are a little expensive but I guess because it is a very touristic area an the restaurant is the only one of its kind. Service slow at the beginning to take us to our table and to write down our order.

I went here for dinner on Friday, June 23rd to celebrate my second year anniversary with my Fiance. We were one of the last tables to leave at closing time, I used the bathroom before leaving and forgot my engagement ring on the counter. I've gone back in person once and called multiple times to ask if they can review surveillance tapes or ask the evening staff if anybody found it - we were one of the very last to leave right after closing time. I have asked to speak to an owner or get an email to contact them about it, they keep saying there is no one I can talk to. Has anybody seen it? Can you please help keep an eye out for it? It's an heirloom and has now reached the fourth generation. It hurts me so much that I can't find it. It's a size 6.

Beautiful restaurant, slow and relaxed service, food was ok for the price, they were able to accommodate a vegan plant based diet.

A lot of conditions on their menu - minimum purchase per person 15 dollars and extra 4 dollar fee to share? Food was decent, service was great. Conditions on menu give unwelcome feeling even if the nice servers may or may not enforce them.

Not much for vegetarians. Vegetarian schnitzel was just ok. Should have gotten some sauce. Overpriced.

Love the atmosphere of this restaurant! We live in Vancouver and would come here for dinner every now and then.

For the price (entrees about $30/plate) the quality could be a little better. All the meat dishes were good; they all had the same purple cabbage and steamed broccoli/carrots mix, with the sausage dish having sauerkraut.

Was disappointed by the stuffdd mushroom appetizer, as the mushrooms weren't stuffed, but in a sort of casserole topped with mini frozen shrimp and melted cheese. This would def be better if the mushroom caps were larger and acrually filled with a shrimp sruffing and light cheese (not cheddar) topping.
Service was friendly; not particularly attentive.

Good beer, although the pilsner was bitter.

Misic was all pop/dance, which seemed out of keeping with the German atmosphere. Recommend German (not polka) music.

Title: Disappointing Experience with Poor Service

I recently visited this establishment with my family, including three young children, and unfortunately, our experience was far from pleasant. Despite the predominantly positive reviews, we encountered significant issues that left us feeling ignored and frustrated.

Upon arrival, we were seated promptly and served water. However, that's where the satisfactory service ended. For approximately 25 minutes, we were completely disregarded, with no acknowledgment from the staff. Despite the restaurant being moderately busy, the focus seemed to be solely on cleaning empty tables rather than attending to customers.

After patiently waiting, we decided to inquire about our order. Regrettably, the response we received was dismissive, with the assurance that our waiter would attend to us soon. Feeling increasingly uncomfortable and recognizing that our children couldn't bear the extended wait any longer, we made the difficult decision to leave and search for another place to eat. Unfortunately, but the time we realized this and walked out, almost every other restaurant was already closed for the evening.

This experience has left me divided on whether I would consider revisiting this establishment during future trips to Canada. While the majority of the reviews are positive, the lackluster service we encountered raises concerns about consistency and customer satisfaction. It's disheartening to have such high hopes for a dining experience, only to be met with disappointment.

I sincerely hope that the management takes note of our experience and implements measures to improve their service. As a family-friendly establishment, it is crucial to prioritize the needs and comfort of all patrons, particularly when young children are involved.

Overall, based on our unfortunate encounter, I cannot recommend this place. Potential customers should be aware of the possibility of inconsistent service and consider their options carefully when making dining choices.

We had a hard time here. Firstly, we all liked our schnitzels and goulash. My son didn't like his fish and chips, however. We weren't sure what was up with our waitress but she was snappy and difficult. We asked for a Shirley Temple and she brought out this orange juice concoction. I said, oh I'm sorry we had asked for a ST. She was like, that's a ST, I made it myself! I said I'm sorry but it's 7Up with cherry grenadine. She said that's what it is! And then she took it back and said ok, tell me how you want it made then, what exactly you want in it like I was making it up. Then, I had ordered the peach vodka and cranberry juice. It tasted like just juice, no alcohol. I even had my non drinking husband try it to see what he thought just to be sure. I said, sorry again, but this tastes off, I don't taste any alcohol. She snapped it's in there, a whole ounce! And walked off. I felt like a real Karen, I hate complaining. She was inattentive to us, never asked us if we wanted more drinks or anything. We tipped the bare minimum, but definitely won't be back. It wasn't worth it for the costs. Lots of other yum places in town. Oh, and our bill had additional drinks that weren't ours on it so once again I had to get her attention. Thanks

Enjoyed the goulash and a nice outdoor indoor patio. OK beer selection but mostly European varieties. And of course at this restaurant you’ve got to enjoy meat.

Real German atmosphere and food. I ate goulash soup and wiener schnitzel with braised potatoes, tasted good

The Vienna schnitzel I had tasted good and portion size was big. However, the spaetzle jaeger something was 14bucks and did not taste good nor did the portion size match the price.

Also, terrible service- when I asked for two plates to share the spaetzle jaeger the server gave the plate beneath the spaetzle as one of the plate and said here you go the other plate and gave the plate that was holding utensils. The server seemed like he didn't want to be working that day or ever.

Every time I go to Harrison, I always eat pork knuckle there. Don't miss their German beers.
